Iron becomes very important for babies after 6 months of age — especially for brain development, blood formation, and overall growth.
But here’s an important truth parents should know:
👉 Iron supplementation is NOT required for every baby.
Some babies may need iron drops, especially if they are:
Preterm or low birth weight
Not getting enough iron from complementary foods
Showing poor weight gain or anemia
Other babies who are eating iron-rich complementary foods and growing well may not need supplements.
⚠️ Iron drops should never be started without pediatrician advice, as excess iron can cause side effects.
📌 Always decide iron supplementation individually with your pediatrician.
This short clears one of the most common nutrition myths in babies aged 6 to 12 months.
