'Learning Under the Watchful Eye of My Guru – A Journey Both Personal and Professional'

On July 12th, I had the privilege of attending the Meril Hip Masters Course, where senior hip surgeons from across India and abroad came together to share their insights, approaches, and philosophies on hip arthroplasty.

But what made this academic experience even more special was sitting beside my father — my guru, Dr. Bharat Mody, who has not only shaped me as an orthopaedic surgeon but continues to guide me with his quiet strength and unwavering wisdom.

In a world of ever-evolving technology, surgical precision, and complex protocols, I’m reminded that our greatest lessons often come from those who have walked the path before us — not just in knowledge, but in character and discipline.

Grateful for this moment that blended learning, legacy, and the essence of the Guru-Shishya Parampara.
Here’s to carrying the torch forward. 🔥

Today morning, I came across this insightful Picture & I found it so appealing.

Two doctors holding up the Universal Symbol of Health - 'Bridging the Gap between Illness and Wellness' ➕

It spoke to me.
Not just as a doctor, but as a human being who’s been privileged to witness what Healing really means.

Every day, in hospitals, clinics and operating rooms across the world, Doctors are doing this very thing - Building silent bridges. From Uncertainty to Understanding. From Pain to Relief. From Fear to Reassurance.

We don’t always wear capes.
But we do wear the weight of decisions, the pressure of expectations, and the responsibility of lives entrusted to us.

Being a doctor is not just a job. It’s a deeply human experience.
We are Humans, afterall.
It’s hearing the trembling voice of a patient’s family member & offering them a shoulder to put their head onto.
It’s staying back a little longer post-surgery just to make sure the vitals are steady.
It’s reading the same textbook chapters again and again and AGAIN - not just to pass exams, but to make sure we never miss a detail when it truly matters.

On this Doctor’s Day, it's after a long time I've took some morning time out of my routine, to think of the millions of small moments that define our journey. The tired but satisfied drive home. The 'smile' when a patient walks again. The 'pain' when one doesn’t.

This isn’t an easy profession. But it’s a profoundly meaningful one.
Because at the end of the day, we all want the same thing—for someone, somewhere to feel better because 'we' were there.

Here’s to every doctor who showed up—mind, heart and hands ready.
And to every patient who reminds us why we chose this path in the first place.

Happy Doctor’s Day.
Let’s keep building that bridge.

"100 Knees, 100 Smiles - My Journey from Learner to Surgeon"

One year ago, I stood in the operating room, feeling the weight of responsibility that comes with wielding a scalpel. The confidence wasn’t instant—it had to be earned, case by case, lesson by lesson. Today, as I complete my first 100 independent Total Knee Replacements, I can’t help but reflect on the journey that has shaped me into the surgeon I am becoming.

Orthopaedics has been in my blood, but stepping into surgery on my own was a different ballgame. There were moments of doubt, moments where I second-guessed every move, moments where the sheer complexity of the human knee felt overwhelming. But in those moments, I had two guiding forces by my side—my father, Dr. Bharat Mody & my brother, Dr. Ksh*tij Mody. Their wisdom, their patience, and their unwavering belief in me became my strongest pillars of support.

Each surgery I performed was not just about replacing a knee; it was about restoring a life—giving back mobility, freedom, and happiness to my patients. The smiles I see post-surgery, the first confident steps they take, the gratitude in their eyes—this is Why I do - What I do.

From a young surgeon finding his feet to now confidently leading the operating room, this journey has been nothing short of incredible, and this is just the beginning!

To all my mentors, my patients who trusted me, my team who stood by me—Thank You for being a part of my first 100! Here’s to the next 100, & beyond. 🚀

Essential Travel Medicine Kit : Expert Advice from Dr. Aashay Mody 💊

Traveling requires proper planning—especially when it comes to your health. Here’s some expert advice on building your essential travel medicine kit to ensure a safe and smooth journey :

I. The Essential Travel Medicine Kit :
When traveling, it's essential to carry the medications that are most likely to be needed, along with a couple of extra doses just in case. A pillbox or compartmentalized box can help keep your medications organized and easy to access.

Here’s what to include in your travel medicine kit:

1. Pain and Fever Relief

- Paracetamol (Crocin/Dolo/Tylenol) – for managing fever and general pain.
- Muscle and Joint Pain Relievers (Woveran, Enzoflam, Myospaz) for sore muscles, cramps, or joint pain.
- Pain Patches – for localized muscle soreness (if available).

2. Gastrointestinal Health

- Loperamide (Imodium) – for managing diarrhoea.
- Antiemetic (Ondansetron/Ondem-MD) – for nausea or vomiting, especially useful for travel sickness.
- Antacids (Digene/TUMS) – for acid reflux. If needed, consider a proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprazole.

3. Allergies and Cold Symptoms

- Antihistamines (Cetzine/Bilastine/Allegra) – for allergies and allergic reactions.
- Fluticasone Nasal Spray – for a runny nose or congestion.

4. Anxiety and Sleep Management

- Zolpidem (Zolfresh) – for occasional sleep disturbances.
- Alprazolam (Restyl) – for managing anxiety (prescription required).

5. Motion Sickness

- Dimenhydrinate (Gravol) – for motion sickness.
- Diamox (acetazolamide) - to prevent altitude sickness.

II. Essential Supplies

1. Band-Aids – for minor injuries or blisters.
2. Mosquito Repellents – essential for tropical regions.
3. Spare Glasses – if you wear glasses, bring an extra pair just in case.

III. Expert Tips for Managing Your Travel Medicine Kit:

1. Pack Strategically: Keep your medicine kit in a separate, easy-to-access pouch. It should be part of your carry-on, not in your checked luggage.

2. Stay Organized: A pillbox helps you sort your daily medications and makes it easier to grab what you need on the go.

3. Restock Regularly: Check your kit every few years or after each trip. Replace expired or used items to ensure you're always prepared.

4. Plan for International Travel: In many countries, over-the-counter medications may be hard to find. Carry essentials like pain relievers, allergy meds, and sleep aids if traveling abroad.

5. Be Cautious with Antibiotics: Only carry antibiotics if specifically prescribed by your doctor. Misuse can lead to complications or antibiotic resistance.

Final Word: Your travel medicine kit should be tailored to your individual needs and destination. While pharmacies are widely available in many places, accessibility may be limited in remote areas, during late hours, or while traveling by air. Having your own supplies ensures peace of mind, allowing you to focus on enjoying your trip.
