Top 4 questions I get asked about Ayurveda

1.) Do you have any book recommendations? Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom by Acharya Shunya

2.) Is Ayurveda really compatible with Western hustle lifestyle? Yes! My approach is very practical and non-dogmatic. I focus on building awareness and presence in everyday life. My focus is on sustainable change that you can follow-through on.

3.) How do you help clients? How do you work with them? I work with clients for 3 months. I help clients feel more vibrant in life and feel BETTER in a holistic way. During the program, your digestion improves, find the best foods for you, reduce toxicity in your body and fine- tune your daily routine. We also go deeper than food into reducing your stress levels, improving the relationship with yourself and others and connecting to your purpose in life. In my program, we'll be learning Ayurveda (which is about 40%) but we will mainly be implementing what we are learning, which is about 60% of the program.

4.) There is an abundance of Ayurveda information with so many books, videos and classes. There are literally hundreds of resources...so what makes you unique?
What cannot be replicated by all the Ayurveda information out there is the SPACE that I offer. There is a lot of learning in my program and it is a guided learning experience.....but the bigger part of what I offer is a space full of warmth and grounded guidance on what to actually implement. Instead of piecing together information yourself, you receive structure, accountability and support that helps you understand yourself more deeply. You will feel more solid in yourself and have a solid foundation in Ayurveda that will serve you life-long.

We can adjust our day according to the doshas. Today I will write about the vata time of day.

2a.m to 6a.m VATA TIME
Waking up in vata time can help one feel more energized and lighter. Intuition is heightened at this time. This is a very spiritual time and is great for creativity and clarity of ideas. Great time to connect with nature and use creativity.

2 p.m to 6 p.m VATA TIME
This is the best time for mental and creative energy so best to get your creative tasks done at this time. Many people crave sweets or coffee at this time. This is the best time for a light dinner, as heavy dinners do not digest well. Those who are already vata might get confused at this time, as they tend to have a lot of thoughts.

What tends to happen to you in the afternoon vata time? Do you get sugar cravings, want a nap or notice an energy slump?

What if your health isn’t about "being disciplined"… but about what you are devoted to?

Sometimes, the way we think about our health creates a lot of heaviness in the mind. Words like consistency, focus, and habits can bring a lot of seriousness into the journey. The word “consistency” does not exactly conjure up feelings of lightness or joy. The word “discipline” can feel heavy and start to feel more like pressure. As a result, taking care of ourselves can feel like a chore.

However, what if you approached your health from a place of devotion? Devotion feels different because it doesn't feel rigid or like your pressuring yourself. Instead, the word devotion feels grounded and intentional. Devotion is the way you return to something because it matters to you. This is where bringing lightness and presence into your Ayurveda journey becomes essential.

How the doshas can shift from discipline to devotion:

Vata:
You don’t need more rules to follow right now. You need more enjoyment within your daily rhythm. Try creating a beautiful space for your meals. Add flowers, slow down, and actually taste your food. Let your routine feel like something you genuinely look forward to each day. Devotion for vata looks like being present with what you are already doing.

Pitta:
You don’t need to improve this entire process.
You can soften your approach just a little. Not every meal needs to be balanced and not every day needs to be productive. Allow space for simple pleasures in your life without feeling like you have to earn them. Devotion for pitta looks like care without putting so much pressure on herself.

Kapha:
You don’t need to wait for motivation to arrive. You can invite in a sense of lightness instead.
Put on music, move your body or go for a walk without a strict goal. Small moments of joyful movement can create more change than a heavy intention. Devotion for kapha could look like gentle movement that reconnects you back to yourself.

For all the doshas, it is hard to stay consistent if you are not enjoying the process. This does not mean every moment of your health journey will feel good. There will be mundane moments and there will be discomfort in the process. This is true in any relationship. Remember that this work is very much a relationship with your body and your life, and that elationships do not thrive under constant pressure and expectations. They grow through attention, listening, patience, care, and moments of ease.

So you can enjoy your health journey without it feeling heavy. You can feel good while taking care of yourself. Vata may still want to rush ahead. Pitta may still want to perfect everything. Kapha may still say, “I’ll start later.”

Remember that feeling devoted to your health is not always about doing more. It is about being present with what truly matters. Try being fully present with one thing today and not already half-way onto the next thing you're doing.

When the doshas become more present and aware, everything starts to shift!

A lot of the work I do with clients is a return to awareness. It's not just about more info, more more habits, etc. The key is awareness, because most of us already know what would support us, but the knowledge is difficult to implement.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, each dosha gains awareness in a different way.

When Vata becomes more aware:
You begin to slow down naturally throughout your day. There is less rushing and less feeling scattered. Your day doesn't slip through your fingers and go by in a blur. You start to notice your body in real time, like feeling hunger before feeling depleted. You pause between things, instead of jumping to the next task.

When Pitta becomes more aware:
The constant drive begins to soften and you notice the pressure you have been carrying.
You realize you do not need to push through everything and you begin to listen, before your body forces you to stop. There is more space in your day, and less intensity in how you move through your day.

When Kapha becomes more aware:
The heaviness you feel becomes more visible to you. You notice where you have been staying in your comfort zone. You feel the subtle desire for change and movement. You stop waiting for the perfect moment to begin. You take one small step and let that create momentum.

Different expressions for all the doshas, but the same shift. You are finally present with yourself, instead of going through the motions and just on auto-pilot.

Remember that awareness is the moment everything connects. You see how your energy, digestion, and emotions are responding to how you are living. You realize your body is an ally that has been guiding you all along. This is the power of Ayurveda. It brings you back to what is already there, and helps you respond with more care and intention. From that place, your choices begin to change because you are more present in your life.

Imagine this version of you.....

You wake up, well rested, and ready to take on your day. Instead of immediately reaching for your phone, you pause and take a couple deep breaths. You love this tiny moment before the world comes rushing in. In this tiny moment, you are completely present with yourself.

You move through your morning with a sense of spaciousness. Warm water fills your favorite mug, steam rising gently as you feel the warmth. You have a warm grounding breakfast like stewed apples You watch the ghee melt and shimmer in the pan. Its earthy scent is cozy.

Your body feels like a friend and ally now, and you no longer question or doubt yourself. You notice when exhaustion, hunger, or discomfort are coming and you can alleviate symptoms before they appear full-blown.

You notice things you used to miss:
✨ Hunger signals coming
✨ Energy building throughout the morning instead of dropping and crashing by afternoon.
✨ Digestion becoming predictable and steady. There is a feeling of lightness after eating that leaves you thinking, “Oh… this is what it’s supposed to feel like.”

You have a new relationship with food that you are cultivating and you also allow yourself to feel more joy in your life.

You let yourself rest and you don't feel like you have to earn it. You start trusting yourself more. Your conversations shift too. Instead of reacting from old patterns or impulse, you feel a softness behind your responses. There is more spaciousness in the way you listen and more compassion in the way you speak. The way you communicate in your relationships improve and you feel more at ease with loved ones. You notice an ease with the people who used to trigger you...maybe the people who were too demanding or difficult. They no longer have the same power over you.

Week after week, the shift becomes bigger. The shifts aren't dramatic, but they are deep and steady. You feel grounded in your life in a way that is so subtle, it almost surprises you.

One day it hits you: You’re not forcing a routine anymore, but you’re actually living in a rhythm. One day you realize that Ayurveda is no longer something theoretical with a list of habits, rules, or recommendations. It has become a part of you and woven into your mornings, your meals, your decisions, and your relationships.

Somewhere between the spices in your morning tea, the stillness of mornings that now belong to you, the small pockets of nourishment you offer yourself and the kindness you’ve learned to offer your own body…....you understand that you didn’t just learn Ayurveda. It has become a part of you now!

This is the transformation that happens when you feel seen, supported, and gently guided back toward yourself.

Whenever you’re ready to meet this version of yourself, let's begin! While there is a learning component to my program, the deeper offering is real-time support and guidance. It’s about reconnecting with your body, your digestion, your emotions and YOU in a way that feels sustainable. It’s about building a foundation in Ayurveda that can support you for life.

How does Ayurveda help simplify our lives?

Ayurveda brings you back to what matters with less noise, less input and less filling your life to the brim. You begin to usE your senses more consciously, instead of constantly overstimulating them. You become more intentional with your time and energy. You build more awareness of what actually supports you. You begin to notice simple patterns in your body:

-Which foods leave you feeling light and clear.
-What things (activities, people, food etc) leave you feeling with more energy or drained.
-Which small practices actually shift how you feel.

As this awareness grows, you stop needing so many answers from the external world, and start listening to your body. Decisions become simpler and routines become more natural. Your energy becomes more grounded. You also begin to follow through in small, steady moments:

-You go to bed when you said you would.
-You close the app when you planned to.
-You take the walk even when it feels inconvenient.

Ayurveda is about coming back to prakriti, doing what matters to you and what aligns to you. When the outside noise and distractions start to quiet down, and you are no longer over-scheduling your life, you are left with a question of: What actually matters to you right now?

Not what you think should matter, not what looks good from the outside and definitely not what everyone else is prioritizing.

What are you choosing to give your time, energy, and attention to? Simplicity will ask you to choose. So here is a question for you: What are the three most important things at this age and stage of your life?

Have you noticed how convincing you can be when talking yourself out of doing something you KNOW would help you feel bet...

Have you noticed how convincing you can be when talking yourself out of doing something you KNOW would help you feel better?

Here are some examples:

-You say you’ll go for a walk, but then your brain tries to convince you that it's been a full day and you deserve to rest. You tell yourself it's not that important anyway.

-You say you won’t scroll tonight, but then you just need a quick check, just one thing or just five minutes. Suddenly it’s an hour later.. and you're feeling drained.

-You planned a nourishing breakfast, but when the morning gets a bit hectic, a quick bite feels easier and faster.

We eventually get used are to negotiating with ourselves on why we can't do the things we had planned for ourselves.

From an Ayurvedic perspective: Vata gets pulled toward stimulation and novelty. Pitta convinces herself that productivity is more important. Kapha tells herself that tomorrow will be a better day to start. Each dosha has a story...but essentially we're telling ourselves the same thing: “I’ll show up for myself later.”

The problem is not the missed walk. The problem is what happens internally. Every broken promise with yourself subtly weakens the trust you have in yourself to follow-through.

Ayurveda helps you be more intentional with what you choose to do. You start to live more intentionally and choose differently.

You say you value your health...so then you start acting like it in small ways. You say you need rest, so you log off when you planned to. Self-trust is built in these small moments of like when you choose the walk, when you close the app, and when you eat the warm meal. You subtly build self-trust with yourself again and are able to rely on yourself.

So next time the negotiation begins, notice the voice and ask yourself: What would a person who prioritizes taking care of myself and respects my body do right now?

When the doshas get inspired by reading about Ayurveda....

Vata
Reads one paragraph and feels a spark of knowing. They might start imagining a whole new life with morning routines, oil pulling, breathwork, etc. They then move on to something else entirely.

Pitta:
Gets inspired, but strategically. They might highlight, take screenshots, or take notes. She decides she’ll implement everything starting Monday. Analyzes what applies, what doesn’t, and what could be optimized. She might be mildly annoyed there wasn’t a clearer step-by-step plan.

Kapha:
Feels deeply comforted and inspired. She thinks, “This makes so much sense" and might save the post. She feels soothed, reassured, and emotionally supported. She might feel that just by reading and being inspired, that change has already happened, without actually implementing anything.

Meanwhile for all the doshas, the body is like: “Love the inspiration. Just checking… are we actually implementing?”

Reading about Ayurveda can feel amazing, expansive and like we're doing something. Living it is can be more subtle, slower, and far less dramatic. When we DO implement and live it, that's where digestion steadies, energy evens out, and things change! What's one thing you can implement today?

How the doshas tell themselves they will take care of their health someday.....

Vata:
“Someday I’ll take care of my health. I just need to find the right routine. Maybe I'll also redesign my entire life. Hmmm...maybe should I move to the mountains? No, I need a new journal first. I definitely need a new journal.”

Pitta:
“Someday I’ll take care of my health....but not today! Today I have goals and need to be productive. Once I finish this project, and hit this milestone, then I'll start taking care of my health.... (Irony: burnout arrives before “someday.”)

Kapha:
“Someday I’ll take care of my health. This blanket is so warm though. This chai is comforting and life isn’t that bad right now. I’ll start when the timing feels perfect.....which is probably next Monday or next season.”

Then there’s you and the part of you that knows “someday” is just a more mild word for "NEVER."

The doshas might procrastinate in very different ways, but they all share the same lesson that today is the only day you really have. Even tiny steps made today like a few mindful breaths, a warm cup of tea, or a short walk. These steps are worth more than all the “somedays” in the world.

So, which dosha are you today.... and what’s one tiny thing you can start now?

What's the cost of staying the same?

Most people only calculate the cost of investing in their health in terms of time or money. However, there’s another cost we rarely think about, which is the cost of staying stuck.

Staying stuck starts with small things that are not big enough to actually want to do something about. These things include another month of waking up tired, another season of digestion that’s “mostly fine” but not great, and another promise to yourself that you’ll start "someday."

Nothing is actually majorly wrong, but you STILL don't feel like yourself. Six months from now, do you still want to be feeling slightly off, but mostly okay? Six months will pass either way. Do you want your patterns to deepen or finally begin to shift?

Staying the same has a cost:
• energy that never quite replenishes
• symptoms that slowly get bigger
• trust in your body that erodes over time
• a low-grade sense of “I know I could feel better than this”

Starting now means you are deciding that circling in the same loops, researching, and waiting is no longer the path for you.

If hesitation is showing up, it often sounds different for each dosha:

Vata wonders if she should wait until she feels more ready, more clear, and more certain. However, remember vatas, that momentum doesn’t come from more thinking. It comes from steady support and follow-through.

Pitta wants the timing to be just right and the plan to be optimized. Pittas, your body doesn’t need a perfect strategy. Your body needs consistency and less gripping to outcomes.

Kapha feels the pull to stay with what is familiar and comfortable. Kaphas, momentum doesn’t come before the first step. It often comes after you begin.

While there is a learning component to my program, the deeper offering is real-time support and guidance. It’s about reconnecting with your body, your digestion, your emotions and YOU in a way that feels sustainable. It’s about building a solid foundation in Ayurveda that can support you for life and feeling more solid in yourself.

How do we know we’re making progress on our health journey? Here are a few factors to look out for:

1) Digestion and Elimination --aiming for at least once a day bowel movement (ideally in morning soon after waking up), smooth banana shaped consistency. Feeling fresh and energized after meals, feeling satiated and satisfied with food.

2) Tongue---pay attention that white coating is less

3.) Are your energy levels stable or do they fluctuate throughout the day? Many people have a slump between 2pm and 6pm where they reach for sugar or coffee. Pay attention to your energy levels particularly at this time.

Sometimes, the way that we think about our health creates a lot of heaviness in our mind. The words "consistency, focus and habits" can bring a lot of seriousness and bring baggage of those words into the journey. The word "consistency" does not exactly conjure the feelings of lightness and joy. As a result of some of these heavy connotations we have with aspects of our health, taking care of ourselves can start to feel like a chore. That's why it's important to bring some fun and lightness into our journey!

How the doshas can bring more lightness and presence into their Ayurveda journey

Vata:
You don’t need more rules to follow right now. You need more enjoyment within your daily rhythm. Try having beautiful place settings for one of your meals or flowers on the table. Making the environment beautiful can add some joy. Try sitting down to your meal without rushing through it and take a moment to actually taste your food, instead of thinking about what comes next. Let your routine feel like something you genuinely look forward to each day. Being present with what you're doing will ground your energy.

Pitta:
You don’t need to improve this entire process. You could soften your approach just a little.
Not every meal needs to be balanced and not every day needs to be productive or purposeful. Allow space for the simple pleasures in your life...and these pleasures are not something you have to earn. Remember that enjoying something is not a distraction from your progress. Joy softens the intensity you bring into your journey.

Kapha:
You don’t need to wait for motivation to arrive. Kaphas, you can invite in a sense of lightness. Put on music while you move your body and let it feel a little more enjoyable. Go for a walk without a strict goal in mind and notice how your energy begins to shift. Small moments of joyful movement can create more change than heavy intention.
