Vidangadi Lauha for obese type 2 diabetes mellitus patients An openlabel randomized controlled clinical trial
Objective
The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of 'Vidangadi Lauha' (VL) (an Ayurveda formulation) compared with Metformin for obese type II diabetes mellitus.
Method Of Testing- The efficacy of Vidangadi Lauha (VL) was evaluated through an open-label randomized controlled clinical trial, meticulously designed to compare its effectiveness with Metformin, a standard treatment for type 2 diabetes. Over a three-month period, participants were randomly assigned to either the VL or Metformin group. Various parameters, including fasting and post- meal glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), quality of life scores, gastrointestinal symptoms, waist-hip ratio, and cholesterol levels, were meticulously monitored and assessed throughout the study duration. This rigorous methodology ensured a comprehensive evaluation of VL's therapeutic potential, providing valuable insights into its efficacy and safety profile for type 2 diabetes management.
The results of the study revealed promising findings regarding the efficacy of Vidangadi Lauha (VL) in managing type 2 diabetes. Participants in the VL group exhibited significant improvements in fasting and post-meal glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels compared to those in the Metformin group. Additionally, VL demonstrated notable benefits in enhancing quality of life scores and reducing gastrointestinal symptoms. These findings underscore the potential of VL as a viable alternative or adjunctive therapy for individuals with type 2 diabetes, offering new avenues for more personalized and effective treatment approaches.
Conclusion
Both treatments were equally effective in reducing blood sugar fasting (F), post-meal (PM) glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C), and body mass index (BMI). VL is more effective than MT in reducing Ayurvedic symptoms, waist-hip ratio, cholesterol, quality of life, and bowel symptom questionnaire score.
