Fiji has recently unveiled a new $50 polymer banknote that prominently features a Girmitiya theme. The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) and the government have highlighted that the new series is designed to showcase Fiji's diverse identity as a unified nation. The term 'Girmit' is derived from the English word agreement or permit (the contract the laborers signed). This era, lasting from 1879 to 1916, saw over 60,000 people brought to Fiji under a system of indentured servitude. Placing this image on the $50 note is an official and public recognition of this crucial, yet often painful, chapter in Fiji's history.

Who can explain the pain of separation from family better than the indentured descendants? Be it Mauritius, Suriname, Natal, Trinidad, Guyana since 1834, or Fiji since 1879.

These people, who were separated from their families for centuries, are still making continuous efforts to reconnect with their families.Due to the difference of three to four generations, there are some people who do not remember the names of their ancestors who came from India, and there is no one alive in the family who can tell them these names.

But a strong desire to join the family keeps motivating them to know this name.Keeping this in mind, in the recent past, we have provided copies of the original immigration passes of their ancestors to many people of Fiji on the basis of the information provided by them, and on their request, we have also done the work of locating and reuniting their families.

Through this sacred work, we have spread smiles on many faces and many times have also felt the surging ocean of emotions of these separated people. Be it hugging each other and shedding memories of years in the form of tears or sharing memories of old stories heard from ancestors.

These are the values given by our ancestors, which inspire us to connect with our roots. We feel blessed to assist you in this sacred work of reunion.

Many indentured descendants in Fiji wish to know about their ancestors and meet their lost relatives, but they face difficulties due to a lack of specific information about the place of origin of their ancestors. There are some people who have immigration passes of their ancestors, who have today successfully reconnected with their ancestral families.

But those who do not have this immigration pass have to do a lot of work to get it, and it also takes a lot of time, due to which people are not able to connect with their ancestral families even if they want to. We help you in reunion with your Indian family through ancestral family research.

Keeping this in mind, these initiatives have been taken by us: If you do not have an immigration pass, no need to worry; we will find out the copy of your ancestor's immigration pass if you want to reunite with your Indian family. You just need to provide us with basic information regarding your ancestors. We will help you in reunion with your ancestral family; thank you.
