Durgesh Upadhyay's singing style is a balanced blend of Indian classical rigor and folk warmth, marked by emotional depth, precise execution, and community orientation. Upadhyay is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi since 2018. Dr. Upadhyay is also the Assistant Dean of Faculty of Students’ Welfare and Visit ing Faculty at Centre for Women Studies, University of Lucknow, Lucknow. Prior to this, he has served Amity University Lucknow Campus for more than 7.5 years as an Assistant Professor. in Psychology in the area of Music Psychology from Department of Psychology, University of Allahabad, Allahabad. He is certified Music Therapist and Vocalist. Recipient of Srimati Radha Sairam Memorial Award for Creative Music Therapist - 2020, NADA Award of Excellence (NCMT, Chennai) and SEMPRE Conference Award (UK), Dr. Durgesh has represented India in several international conferences held in Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, USA and Sri Lanka. Dr. Durgesh has published a pioneer book in the area of Music Psychology titled ‘Psychosocial Dispositions of Creative Musicians.’ Also, he has published an edited volume on Youth, Mental Health, Well-being, and Development Issues. He has published more than a dozen research articles in journals of international repute indexed in Web of Science, SCOPUS and UGC notified journals. Dr. Durgesh is an active member of editorial and reviewer boards in several Web of Science, SCOPUS and UGC notified journals namely Psychology of Music, Frontiers in Psychiatry, HSSS, JIAAP, IJSSR, JHBDI, etc. He has developed ‘Music Preference Scale’ to measure music preferences of young adults. His areas of research interests are as follows: music education, music therapy, music preferences, creativity in music, music elicitation in qualitative research, health and well-being, music perception, perception of emotion, personality, Indian Psychology.
