All through the Scripture, we see how Jesus didn’t just teach about love; He wore love. He modeled it.
When he saw Zacchaeus, a despised tax collector who was known for his dishonesty, society had written him off, but Jesus called him out of the crowd and said, “I want to have dinner with you today.” Jesus went to people that others thought were too far gone.
Love in action. A l***r came to Jesus, fell at His feet and said, “Lord, if You want to, You can heal me.” Lepers were unclean, contagious. They were supposed to keep their distance, but this man had put Jesus at risk. He’d broken protocol, went against safety requirements.
Jesus could have been upset, offended, “Get him away from me. You’re going to get me infected.” But Jesus bent down and touched the man. I can hear the crowd gasp. “Can you believe it? He’s going to get leprosy.” But the Scripture says, “Instantly, the man’s skin was made whole.” Love that can be seen.
On the cross, after being betrayed, mocked, and his disciples walked away, Jesus was up there in great pain and agony. He could have been bitter, angry, complaining about the mistreatment. But He said, “Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they’re doing.”
