Verinag has consistently ranked first in Jammu & Kashmir for timely and honest payment of electricity bills. Despite this, residents are subjected to frequent unscheduled power cuts, along with a recent increase in electricity charges. This situation persists even in metered areas. The reasons behind these power outages and tariff hikes remain unclear. Unfortunately, there appears to be no authority willing to address or question this issue. Laboratory tests mein in syrups mein DEG paya gaya — Coldrif mein bohot zyada amount report hua (reports mein ek high % quoted hai). DEG bachon mein acute kidney injury aur maut tak ka sabab ban sakta hai. �

Source problem: aksar problem yeh hoti hai ke glycerin ya doosre excipients pharmaceutical-grade na hon — saste industrial-grade raw materials mein DEG/EG mil jaate hain. Isi liye regulatory testing aur supply-chain checks zaroori hain. �

Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited
In metered and No.1 areas where consumers pay their electricity dues on time and in full, imposing unjustified 4-hour power cuts is absolutely unacceptable and a clear violation of consumer rights. Earlier, such misuse of authority never happened — now it seems no one is held accountable! Is there no regulatory body left to question this negligence and harassment of honest bill payers?

JKAS Officer Jailed for Defying Court Orders in South Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested senior JKAS officer M. Rouf Rehman, who serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Verinag Development Authority, following orders from the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Anantnag.

The officer was taken into judicial custody till October 15 by the order of Sub-Judge Feroz Ahmad Khan, in connection with Ex*****on Petition No. 147/EP (Case No. 133/2023) titled Hamidullah Bawani vs UT of J&K and Others.

The court found the officer guilty of non-compliance with its previous directions and failure to respond to a show-cause notice issued in March 2025. Following continued defiance, the court also attached the treasury account of the Verinag Development Authority and earlier issued a ₹50,000 bailable warrant against him.

Police took the officer into custody after conducting a medical examination and lodged him as per legal procedure.

OBC Chairman and former MC President Doru Verinag, Mohd. Iqbal Ahanger, recently met LG Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan and raised key demands, including upgrading local hospitals, addressing staff shortages, and expediting the Anantnag–Doru road project. He also highlighted welfare needs of the OBC community. The LG assured action, issuing directions to officials, a move welcomed by people of Doru–Verinag and nearby Mohmmad Iqbal
