Are you taking your BP tablets at the right time?
In this video, Dr. M.V. Sai Krishna, a senior nephrologist, breaks down the best time to take blood pressure tablets—whether it's morning, afternoon, or night.

📌 Some medicines like Ramipril and Enalapril are meant to be taken before food, while others like Atenolol, Arkamin, and Methyldopa are usually taken after meals.

🕘 The key is to stick to the timing your doctor recommends—like 7 AM, 2 PM, or 8 PM—for better BP control and effectiveness.

While most BP tablets aren’t affected by food, some do have specific instructions—so it's important to know the difference.

For people with high BP, kidney disease, or heart issues, reducing salt intake is crucial. A common question is:
"Which salt is better — table salt, pink salt, or rock salt?"
👉 All salts mainly contain sodium chloride, which affects blood pressure. So, the sodium level is nearly the same in all types.

🧂 Types of Salt:

•Table Salt: Processed and fortified with iodine (essential to prevent deficiency)
•Pink/Rock Salt: Less processed, contain trace minerals (not nutritionally significant), not iodine-fortified

❌ Common Myth:
Many believe pink or rock salt is healthier — but they do not lower health risks unless total sodium intake is reduced.

✅ What Actually Matters:
•Use any salt in moderation

In this video, Dr. M. V. Sai Krishna, a renowned Nephrologist in Vijayawada, explains about Nocturnal Leg Cramps, a common symptom that many people experience. These cramps usually occur in the calf muscles, but can also affect the foot or thigh muscles. Though it may seem minor, it is actually a disturbing symptom that can indicate underlying health issues like kidney disease.

The main cause of nocturnal leg cramps is muscle exhaustion or muscle fatigue. These cramps often occur after exercise, long walks, or climbing stairs. Other reasons include dehydration and mineral deficiencies such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium.

Dr. Sai Krishna highlights that nocturnal leg cramps are also seen in medical conditions like:
•Kidney failure
•Diabetes mellitus
•Peripheral neuropathy
•Peripheral artery disease (reduced blood circulation to the legs)

Certain medications, especially diuretics like Lasix, which are commonly used in kidney and heart failure, can cause dehydration and salt loss. Even a small increase in dosage can raise the risk of leg cramps.

Elderly individuals may experience cramps due to reduced blood circulation, and these cramps are also common during pregnancy.

When a nocturnal leg cramp occurs, immediate remedies include:
•Gentle massage
•Hot fomentation
•Stretching the muscle
•Slow walking to relax the muscle

After the episode, it’s important to take the following steps to prevent recurrence:
•Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated
•Get a blood test to check for deficiencies in magnesium, calcium, or potassium
•Take appropriate treatment for conditions like kidney failure, peripheral neuropathy, or peripheral artery disease if diagnosed

If cramps are frequent or severe, it’s essential to consult a doctor. Getting evaluated early can help with timely diagnosis and treatment.

If your loved ones or anyone you know are suffering from nocturnal leg cramps, make sure this video reaches them.

In this informative video, Dr. M.V. Sai Krishna, a renowned nephrologist, explains the importance of vaccinations for individuals living with kidney disease. People with chronic kidney disease (CKD), those on dialysis, or post-kidney transplant patients often have a weakened immune system, making them more vulnerable to infections that can further damage kidney function.

Dr. Sai Krishna outlines the essential vaccines recommended for kidney patients to help reduce the risk of serious infections:
•Hepatitis B Vaccine
•Pneumococcal Vaccine
•Varicella (Chickenpox) Vaccine
•Varicella Zoster / Herpes Zoster (Shingles) Vaccine
•Influenza (Flu) Vaccine

Due to elevated urea, creatinine, and metabolic acid levels, kidney disease can impact multiple organs and significantly lower immunity. These vaccines play a vital role in protecting kidney patients and preventing complications.

In this insightful video, Dr. M.V. Sai Krishna discusses Diabetic Retinopathy a common complication seen in long-term diabetes patients. He explains how prolonged diabetes can lead to retina damage, reduced vision, and even permanent vision loss in some cases. Many patients undergo laser treatments as part of the management strategy.
Dr. Sai Krishna also highlights the strong connection between diabetic eye disease and kidney health. According to him, about 75 out of 100 patients with Diabetic Retinopathy may also develop diabetic kidney disease. If not monitored and managed properly, this can progress to Stage 4 or Stage 5 kidney disease, making early detection and regular check-ups crucial.
