The Andhra Pradesh Chapter of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI) proudly honored Dr. V.S.N. Rao with the Dr. M. Gangadhara Rao Memorial Oration at AP-AROICON 2025, in recognition of his exemplary contributions to the field of Radiation Oncology.

From participating in and pioneering India’s first endobronchial radiotherapy and hyperthermia procedures to establishing one of the nation’s earliest modern radiotherapy departments, Dr. Rao’s journey has been defined by innovation, dedication, and service.

A visionary leader, passionate teacher, and compassionate healer, Dr. Rao has shaped cancer care across Andhra Pradesh and beyond, while also mentoring generations of oncologists.

He is also the first PDR Brachytherapist in India and the first radiation oncologist in the country to have practical experience in all three brachytherapy modalities – LDR, HDR, and PDR. His pioneering work in PDR Brachytherapy is deeply valued and appreciated by the radiation oncology fraternity and countless patients.

This honor stands as a tribute to his unwavering commitment, academic excellence, and lifelong service to oncology in India.

At HCG Cancer Centre, Vijayawada, a 54-year-old woman (name changed) diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer overcame her fears of prolonged treatment through a first-of-its-kind radiation protocol in the region.

Under the expert guidance of Dr. K.P. Ranganath, Senior Consultant – Radiation Oncology, along with Dr. Gopichand, Senior Consultant – Surgical Oncology, and Dr. Priyadharshini, Medical Oncologist, she was treated with Partial Breast Irradiation (PBI) combined with Respiratory Gating.

✅ Entire treatment completed in just 5 sessions over 5 days (instead of 25–30 sessions)
