How many scans are needed during pregnancy? In this video, Dr. Sree Ramya Kantipudi, gynecologist in Vijayawada at Vise Hospitals, explains the three most important pregnancy scans across all three trimesters.

1️⃣ Viability Scan (6–8 weeks): Done after a missed period to confirm pregnancy. This scan checks whether the pregnancy is inside the uterus (to rule out ectopic pregnancy) and confirms the baby’s heartbeat. The estimated due date is also calculated.

2️⃣ NT Scan (11–14 weeks): This scan measures the thickness at the back of the baby’s neck to screen for chromosomal or genetic disorders.

3️⃣ TIFFA / Anomaly Scan (18–22 weeks): A detailed targeted scan that examines the baby from head to toe to detect any structural abnormalities.

These three scans are very important for monitoring your baby’s growth and development. Do not skip them during pregnancy.

What is piles? What is fistula? Many people often confuse these two painful conditions. In this video, Dr. Pavan Velineni, Surgical Gastroenterologist at Vise Hospitals, clearly explains the difference between piles and fistula.

Piles (Hemorrhoids) occur when the blood vessels at the end of the a**s become swollen and bulge out. This condition is commonly seen in people suffering from chronic constipation, elderly individuals, diabetic patients, and those with liver problems. Piles can often be controlled and treated with proper medications, diet changes, and lifestyle modifications. Fistula, on the other hand, is caused by infection in the glands near the a**s. When these glands become infected, they may form a painful swelling and discharge pus. Unlike piles, fistula usually does not heal completely with medicines alone. In nearly 90% of cases, surgery is required for permanent treatment. Fistula is more commonly seen in diabetic patients, as infections spread more easily.

Do not mistake piles for fistula or fistula for piles. Both conditions require proper medical diagnosis and treatment. Always consult a qualified doctor if you experience symptoms like pain, swelling, bleeding, or pus discharge near the a**s.

For expert consultation, meet Dr. Pavan Velineni at Vise Hospitals, Vijayawada.

Is surgery required for everyone diagnosed with uterine fibroids? In this informative video, Dr. Sree Ramya Kantipudi, an experienced gynecologist in Vijayawada at Vise Hospital, explains when fibroid treatment is necessary and when surgery can be avoided. Fibroids are small non-cancerous growths that develop in the uterus. Their size, number, and location determine the symptoms. While some women experience heavy menstrual bleeding, severe stomach pain, or clot passage, others may have no symptoms at all. In certain cases, fibroids may also affect fertility depending on their position.

Dr. Sree Ramya clarifies that not all fibroids require surgery. Women who experience excessive bleeding (changing a pad every hour), severe pain, or fertility issues should seek medical evaluation. Small fibroids or multiple fibroids without symptoms may only require monitoring and medical management.

If you are experiencing heavy periods, pelvic pain, or fertility concerns, consult a specialist for proper guidance and personalized treatment.

What is ERCP and when is it needed? In this video, Dr. Pavan Velineni, Surgical Gastroenterologist at VISE Hospitals Vijayawada, explains everything about ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography).ERCP is an advanced endoscopic procedure used to diagnose and treat problems in the bile ducts, liver ducts, and pancreatic ducts. It helps identify conditions like stones, strictures (narrowing), tumors, and blockages affecting these ducts.

Unlike MRCP, which is a non-invasive scan used only for imaging, ERCP is both a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. A thin, flexible tube called an endoscope is gently passed through the mouth, into the stomach, and then into the first part of the small intestine (duodenum). A small opening in this area leads to the bile and pancreatic ducts. Through this opening, doctors pass tiny instruments and inject contrast dye to view the ducts clearly on X-ray imaging.

The major advantage of ERCP is that treatment can be performed at the same time. Doctors can remove stones, place stents to relieve blockages, widen narrowed ducts, take tissue samples (biopsy), or control leaks without the need for open surgery in many cases. Because it is an invasive procedure, it is usually recommended only when there is a clear medical need and is performed by trained gastroenterology specialists in a hospital setting.ERCP plays a crucial role in managing disorders of the liver, bile ducts, pancreas, and gallbladder, helping prevent serious complications and providing faster relief for patients.

Swelling in the navel region is commonly called an Umbilical Hernia. This condition can be seen in childhood or may develop slowly over time in adults. Many people notice a small bulge near the belly button and are unsure whether surgery is required or not.

In this video, Dr. Pavan Velineni, Surgical Gastroenterologist in Vijayawada at VISE Hospital Vijayawada, clearly explains what an umbilical hernia is and when surgery becomes necessary. A hernia occurs due to weakness in the abdominal muscles, allowing fat or intestines to come out through the muscle layers.

There are mainly two types of umbilical hernia. In some patients, only fat comes out, which may not cause immediate pain. In others, the intestines come out through the opening, which is dangerous and requires urgent medical attention. Dr. Pavan Velineni explains how to identify whether the swelling contains fat or intestines through scanning and proper clinical evaluation.Even if the swelling is small and painless, surgery should not be ignored. Over time, the small hole can enlarge, increasing the risk of intestines getting trapped. Early-stage hernia surgery is easier, safer, and can be done using laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery with faster recovery and lower recurrence risk.

If you notice swelling near the navel, consult a doctor early and plan timely treatment to avoid complications.
