How many scans are needed during pregnancy? In this video, Dr. Sree Ramya Kantipudi, gynecologist in Vijayawada at Vise Hospitals, explains the three most important pregnancy scans across all three trimesters.
1️⃣ Viability Scan (6–8 weeks): Done after a missed period to confirm pregnancy. This scan checks whether the pregnancy is inside the uterus (to rule out ectopic pregnancy) and confirms the baby’s heartbeat. The estimated due date is also calculated.
2️⃣ NT Scan (11–14 weeks): This scan measures the thickness at the back of the baby’s neck to screen for chromosomal or genetic disorders.
3️⃣ TIFFA / Anomaly Scan (18–22 weeks): A detailed targeted scan that examines the baby from head to toe to detect any structural abnormalities.
These three scans are very important for monitoring your baby’s growth and development. Do not skip them during pregnancy.
