Statistics for Ophthalmologists – A Practical Guide, brought out by the Sankar Foundation, Visakhapatnam, was released at the just-concluded AIOS Conference held in Delhi from 3-6 April 2025.
The manual is edited by Dr T Raveendra, Dr Sunil Morekar and Dr Krishna Prasad with a foreword by Dr Namrata Sharma, Chairman Scientific Committee, AIOS and Dr B Miniswamy.

Nearly 500 school students were screened by Sankar Foundation, Visakhapatnam in an eye screening camp. This was organised in association with Barzilai Foundation for government school children at Kasimkota in Anakapalle district in Andhra Pradesh on 7th and 10th February 2025.

School eye screening programs are vital for the early detection and management of vision problems in children. Through such camps, we can ensure timely intervention and corrective measures for children to reach their full potential in learning and life

At the camp, medicines were distributed. Specs were prescribed for 38 students, and 54 students were referred for further treatment.

Congratulations to the three ophthalmologists from Sankar Foundation, Visakhapatnam who have earned the prestigious FAICO (Fellow of the All India Collegium of Ophthalmology) certification, offered by the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS).
We are proud of Dr. Nasrin, Director of Medical Administration & Training and Head of the Cornea Department; Dr Yashaswini, Consultant, Cornea and Dr. M. Kavitha Devi, Consultant, Glaucoma have successfully passed the theory and practical examinations, earning the prestigious FAICO (Cornea) and Glaucoma Certification respectively from the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) for the year 2024-25.
The FAICO certification is a specialized training program for ophthalmologists, signifying expertise in a specific subspecialty of ophthalmology.

An advanced life support ambulance is advantageous, especially when working in remote areas. We are grateful to Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) for donating an advanced life support ambulance to Sankar Foundation as part of their CSR initiative to enhance healthcare services.

The ambulance was formally handed over to Sankar Foundation by Sri LS Rao, Chief GM, (Visakha Secunderabad (Pipwe Line), GAIL in the presence of Sri MVS Murthy, GM (O&M Pipe Line), GAIL.

On the occasion, Sri K Radhakrishnan, GM; Sri V Ramesh Kumar, DGM (PC & CR); K Bangar Raju, DGM (PR), Sankar Foundation were present along with other officials of GAIL and Sankar Foundation.

Rich tributes were paid to the founder of Sankar Foundation, Visakhapatnam, Sri Atmakuri Sankar Rao, on the occasion of his 13th anniversary on 18th March. Sri Krishna Kumar Atmakuri, the Managing Trustee, garlanded the statue of Sri Sankar Rao and offered floral tributes to commemorate the occasion.

Rao, AGM (HR) along with Heads of Departments and employees, also garlanded the statue and paid their respects to the late founder.

In observance of World Glaucoma Week, Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital in Visakhapatnam organized a Glaucoma Awareness Walk, which was flagged off by Dr. T Raveendra, the Head of the Glaucoma Department. Additionally, a discussion aimed at raising awareness about glaucoma took place at the hospital, where doctors emphasized the importance of regular check-ups, particularly for those at risk.

During the first half of this financial year, Sankar Foundation performed an impressive 7395 free eye surgeries exclusively for women (out of 9131 surgeries) and this amounts to 58%. These were under the state government's scheme.
