AGE IS NOT A BAR FOR CANCER TREATMENT
We are able to offer curative treatments to patients and they are able to live a long and normal life. Cancer is no longer a death sentence.
This post is about one such 88 year old who should be an inspiration to all cancer patients.
5 years ago he suffered from re**al cancer, underwent a major surgery uneventfully, took chemotherapy. As it was done with ROBOTIC assistance, he had a quick and smooth recovery. This month, he came with test reports suggesting that he continues to be cancer free and leading a very active life.
He is a PhD and Veterinary Doctor who served our Vizag Zoo for many years and can continue to speak for hours together on matters close to his heart – indeed, a very vibrant personality.
While dealing with cancer patients, we closely follow them up with regular investigations for around 5 years because the critical time when the cancer may return is the first 3 to 5 years. So, crossing 5 years is a mental milestone. It is very unlikely that the cancer will return.
Hats off to this senior person who is living to the fullest at his ripe old age….
I tell his story to all my patients/patient relatives who ask me – “is it worth treating this cancer in a 60 or 70 year old?”
