👶✨ Lesion of the Day: Gingival Cyst of the Newborn ✨👶
Tiny pearly nodules on an infant’s gums — harmless, self-limiting, and oh-so-classic! 🌱
Mnemonic 👉 “Pearls on the gums” 💎

📌 Key point: Derived from rests of Serres, these keratin-filled cysts usually vanish spontaneously — no treatment needed.

🦷✨ Lesion of the Day: Dentigerous Cyst (Follicular Cyst) ✨🦷
Think of it as the “Tooth-Hugging Cyst” 🤗 — neatly wrapping itself around the crown of an unerupted tooth!

📌 Key points:
• 2nd most common odontogenic cyst
• Originates from reduced enamel epithelium
• Attached at the CEJ of impacted teeth (esp. mandibular 3rd molars, maxillary canines)
• Radiographically: well-defined unilocular radiolucency
• Rare potential for neoplastic transformation

🦷✨ Lesion of the Day: Radicular Cyst (Periapical Cyst) ✨🦷
The most common odontogenic cyst — rooted in infection and inflammation! 🔬
Remember 👉 “Radicular = Root-Related” 🌱

📌 Seen at the apex of non-vital teeth, lined by stratified squamous epithelium, with inflammatory infiltrate and sometimes Rushton bodies.
Radiographically, it’s that neat periapical radiolucency you can’t miss.

🧠✨ Lesion of the Day: Keratoacanthoma (KA) ✨🧠
Think of it as a “Keratin-filled Volcano” 🌋 – rapid growth, crater-like center, and tricky because it mimics SCC!
A classic example of why clinicopathologic correlation matters in oral pathology and dermatopathology.

📌 Key point: Although it may regress, biopsy is essential to rule out malignancy.

🦷✨ Lesion of the Day: Odontogenic Keratocyst (OKC) ✨🦷
“OKC is OK but tricky” – a cyst with a tumor-like attitude!
Aggressive, recurrent, and histologically unique with its thin parakeratinized lining and palisaded basal layer.

🔹 Lesion of the Day: Globulomaxillary Cyst

📍 Definition
A cyst that was historically believed to arise from epithelium trapped between the globular portion of the medial nasal process and the maxillary process. Today, most cases are considered odontogenic in origin (lateral periodontal cyst, odontogenic keratocyst, etc.).

📍 Location
Between the roots of the maxillary lateral incisor and canine.

📍 Clinical Features
• Usually asymptomatic
• May cause divergence of roots without root resorption
• Slow-growing swelling in the anterior maxilla

📍 Radiographic Features
• Well-defined, inverted pear-shaped radiolucency between lateral incisor & canine
• Causes divergence of roots

📍 Histopathology
• Varies (depending on actual odontogenic cyst type, e.g., stratified squamous epithelium, thin fibrous wall)
• Not a distinct histologic entity

📍 Treatment
• Enucleation
• Prognosis: Excellent

✨ Remember: Globulomaxillary cyst is more of a radiographic term than a true pathological entity!

🔬✨ Lesion of the Day: Calcifying Odontogenic Cyst (COC / Gorlin Cyst)
Also called the Gorlin Cyst, this odontogenic cyst is unique for its ghost cells 👻 that may undergo calcification. Often seen in the anterior jaws of young patients, it presents as a slow-growing, painless swelling and may mimic other odontogenic lesions radiographically.
Though generally benign, its neoplastic variant (CCOT) makes early recognition crucial.

💡 Mnemonic: “Ghosts in the Cyst” 👻

🎯 Lesion of the Day: Lichen Planus

📌 Key Points
• Definition: A chronic, immune-mediated mucocutaneous disorder affecting the oral cavity, skin, and other mucosa.
• Clinical Features:
• Classic reticular form: interlacing white striae (Wickham’s striae), most often on buccal mucosa bilaterally.
• Erosive/atrophic form: red, painful areas with central ulceration surrounded by radiating keratotic striae.
• Histopathology:
• Hyperkeratosis and saw-tooth rete ridges.
• Band-like infiltrate of T-lymphocytes hugging the epithelium.
• Degeneration of basal cell layer with Civatte (colloid) bodies.
• Differential Diagnosis: Leukoplakia, lupus erythematosus, lichenoid reaction, candidiasis.
• Malignant Potential: Considered an oral potentially malignant disorder (OPMD) with ~1% transformation risk (especially erosive form).

🔬✨ Lesion of the Day ✨🔬

Leukoedema

📍 Key Clinical Feature
Diffuse, milky-white opalescence on the buccal mucosa that disappears on stretching.

💡 Quick Pearl
Unlike leukoplakia, leukoedema vanishes when the mucosa is stretched → a simple chairside differentiator!

🔍 Lesion of the Day
📌 Pyogenic Granuloma

🧾 Key Features:
• Reactive lesion, not a true granuloma
• Often arises on gingiva due to irritation, trauma, or hormonal changes
• Soft, red, lobulated mass that bleeds easily
• Histology: Capillary proliferation with inflammatory infiltrate

💡 Pearl for Exams: Remember the “pregnancy tumor” association—common in expectant mothers due to hormonal influence!
