Hello everybody! I am Dr. Sudha, a gynecologist and fertility specialist. I’m here in the show Show Me Red, an initiative to help women understand the importance of knowing their blood group. Knowing your blood group is very important, especially during medical emergencies. Equally important is understanding your Rh factor. If an Rh-negative mother conceives an Rh-positive baby, the first pregnancy may be safe, but future pregnancies can face complications. With timely diagnosis and proper care, these risks can be managed. I am B positive… now it’s your turn—show me your red! ❤️

Many people ask me if a solar or lunar eclipse can affect pregnancy. There are many myths, like a pregnant woman touching her face during an eclipse causing a birthmark on the baby, or cutting vegetables leading to a cleft lip. I want to clarify that these beliefs have no scientific evidence. From a medical point of view, normal activities such as moving around, eating, or using the washroom during an eclipse will not harm the baby. Pregnancy is not affected by these superstitions. However, if you prefer, you can use that time to relax, meditate, or simply rest at home for peace of mind. The most important thing during pregnancy is to stay calm, healthy, and follow proper medical guidance rather than myths.

Many people ask me to rate birth control methods from safest to riskiest. The first thing I always say is — never use pills without a prescription. Oral contraceptive pills are absolutely safe when taken under the guidance of a qualified gynecologist, but consistency is important. Missing one pill may be manageable, but missing two can increase the chances of pregnancy. Copper T is another highly effective option; once placed correctly, it can provide long-term protection for 3–4 years with minimal side effects, though rare issues like displacement can happen. Condoms are also very safe and have the added benefit of protecting against sexually transmitted infections, but breakage can occasionally occur, in which case emergency contraception may be needed. As for tracking “safe days,” it works only if cycles are extremely regular. A small miscalculation can increase pregnancy risk, and failure rates are higher compared to other methods. Every method has its pros and cons, so choosing the right contraception should always be based on proper medical guidance and individual health needs.

Many couples come to me and ask, “Doctor, what medicine should we take to have a baby?” My answer is simple — before medicines, focus on your mind and lifestyle. Stress is one of the biggest hidden factors that can affect fertility because when your mind is constantly worried, your body does not function at its best. Prioritize 6–8 hours of proper sleep, eat a balanced and nourishing diet, exercise regularly for at least one hour, and most importantly, stay positive. I have seen couples conceive when they stopped overthinking, relaxed, and allowed life to flow naturally. Sometimes peace, good health, and a positive mindset are more powerful than any medication.

Are you noticing blood clots during your periods? This could be a sign of heavy bleeding and should not be ignored.

During menstruation, the body naturally produces a substance called fibrinolysis to keep the blood in a fluid state. When bleeding is excessive, the amount produced may not be sufficient, leading to clot formation.

If you are experiencing frequent or large clots, it may indicate heavy menstrual bleeding. I strongly recommend consulting your gynecologist for proper evaluation and necessary treatment.

Your menstrual health matters — don’t ignore the signs your body is giving you.

Many people ask me whether today’s sedentary lifestyle can affect fertility. The answer is yes — prolonged sitting can have an impact on reproductive health.

When you sit continuously for long hours, blood circulation to the pelvis may get affected. Over time, this can influence ovarian and uterine function. In men, especially those who place laptops directly on their laps, the heat generated may negatively affect s***m quality and testosterone levels.

A sedentary lifestyle also increases the risk of weight gain, insulin resistance, ovulatory dysfunction, and conditions like PCOS — all of which can affect fertility.

A simple solution? If you work at a desk, get up every hour. Walk for five minutes, stretch, drink water, or take a short break. Small lifestyle changes can protect your long-term reproductive health.

Take care of your body today for a healthier tomorrow.

Is bleeding after intimacy normal?

In newly married women, slight bleeding during the first in*******se can happen due to h***n tear. However, bleeding after intimacy at any other time — especially after a gap or even after having children — should never be ignored.

It could be due to cervical erosion, small cervical polyps, infections, or in rare cases, even cervical cancer. Post-coital bleeding is a symptom that needs medical attention.

Please do not hesitate or feel shy. If you experience bleeding after in*******se, consult your gynecologist immediately for proper evaluation and treatment. Early diagnosis can prevent serious complications.

Your health matters. Listen to your body.

Reproductive health is your right and your responsibility.

I always tell women—you have the right to decide when you want to have children. Do not feel pressured by society or family expectations. The decision should be made by you and your husband, together.

Before planning pregnancy, focus on your health. Your health is the foundation of your baby’s health. A healthy mother increases the chances of a healthy pregnancy and baby.

It is also important to understand the different contraceptive options available—condoms, pills, IUCDs like Copper-T, and more. Instead of depending on internet advice, consult your doctor to choose what is best suited for your body.

And one very important warning: emergency contraceptive pills are not meant for repeated use. Frequent use can disturb your hormonal balance. They may be used in accidental situations, but not as a regular method of contraception.

Make informed choices. Protect your health. Plan responsibly.

On Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Day, I want to share a few important safety tips to protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

First, always use barrier protection like condoms. They are one of the safest ways to prevent infections.
Second, avoid sexual contact with strangers, and never engage in unprotected in*******se — no matter how much you trust someone.
After in*******se, maintaining proper hygiene is also important.

If you are ever accidentally exposed to someone who is HIV-positive, do not panic — consult a doctor immediately. The sooner you start Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), the better the protection against HIV.

Awareness, protection, and timely medical care can make all the difference. Your health is in your hands.

Are you wondering why I’m eating so many pieces of guava?
Guava is a powerhouse fruit packed with Vitamin C and Vitamin A, which help boost immunity and improve digestion. Its high fiber content prevents constipation, keeps you full for longer, and supports healthy weight management.

Guava is also rich in potassium and magnesium, which help improve heart health and support kidney function. One of the best benefits? It helps keep blood glucose levels under control without causing sugar spikes. A simple fruit with amazing health benefits—definitely worth adding to your daily diet!
