Some cases stay with you forever. I once treated a woman who had experienced 11 abortions, and helping her achieve a successful pregnancy was truly challenging. After she conceived under our care, I performed a cervical cerclage to support the pregnancy. When the risk still remained, an abdominal cerclage was done to give stronger support.

With careful monitoring and timely intervention, she carried the pregnancy safely and delivered a healthy baby by C-section. The relief and happiness we felt when both mother and baby were safe is something I will never forget. Later, she even went on to have twins and has since referred many families to us. Stories like this remind me why hope and persistence matter in medicine.

Delivery is truly one of the most beautiful experiences in a woman’s life-from seeing the baby’s heartbeat for the first time, to feeling those little kicks, and finally holding your baby in your arms. I always encourage mothers to prepare early to make this journey smoother.

From the 5th or 6th month, I advise gentle breast and ni**le care, using simple home remedies like ghee or homemade butter, which can help the baby latch easily after birth. From the 6th or 7th month, daily walking for 40-50 minutes improves blood circulation and supports a smoother delivery.

Practicing deep breathing exercises, respiratory meditation, and prenatal yoga can also greatly help both physically and mentally. With the right preparation, delivery can be a calm, confident, and joyful experience.

Many parents ask me what foods they can start for their baby at home. Once your baby completes 4 months, breast milk alone may not be enough to meet all nutritional needs. I recommend slowly introducing semi-solid foods in a step-by-step manner.

You can begin with rice porridge made from roasted rice powder. Feed it slowly, and if needed, add a little ghee or a pinch of salt. Once the baby gets used to this, you can add curd, followed by well-cooked dal if tolerated.

Gradually, you can introduce mashed banana, mashed potato, apple puree, or filtered pomegranate juice. By 5 to 7 months, babies often enjoy small amounts of fresh fruit juices like orange juice. Always introduce one food at a time and observe how your baby responds.

Many pregnant women worry about leg swelling during pregnancy. I want you to know that in most cases, this happens because the growing uterus puts pressure on the veins, reducing blood flow from the legs and causing swelling. Simple measures like keeping your legs elevated, sleeping on your left side, reducing salt intake, and wearing compression stockings can help reduce pedal edema.

However, leg swelling should not always be ignored. If swelling is associated with high blood pressure, it can be a warning sign of serious complications. In such cases, I strongly advise consulting a gynecologist immediately. Early attention and proper care are essential for a safe and healthy pregnancy.

High blood pressure during pregnancy is something I take very seriously. It can be unpredictable, and no one can say how it may progress. If there is a family history of hypertensive disorders, I sometimes start preventive medication early.

Warning signs like severe headache, blurred vision, seizures, severe swelling of the body, abdominal discomfort, or sudden weight gain should never be ignored. In severe cases, high blood pressure can be life-threatening for both the mother and the baby. If BP becomes uncontrollable, early delivery may even be required to save lives.

If you are diagnosed with high BP during pregnancy, I strongly advise continuing your pregnancy only under close supervision of an experienced gynecologist. Early care and regular monitoring can prevent serious complications.

Many women ask me, “I’ve crossed 30 years-what tests should I get done?” From a gynecologist’s point of view, this phase of life is very important. If you have crossed 30 and haven’t planned a pregnancy yet, I strongly advise you to start thinking about it. After 30, the body slowly starts losing calcium every year, so a balanced diet and regular exercise are essential.

I recommend basic tests like CBC, urine examination, hemoglobin, thyroid levels, ultrasound scan, pelvic examination, and Pap smear. For women focusing on careers, at least get female hormone tests done to assess egg reserve. If egg count is low, early planning is important. If you notice warning signs like poor sleep, excessive stress, or weakness, don’t ignore them. Early detection helps prevent future problems and keeps you healthy.

Many couples ask me what IUI is and whether a natural cycle or a stimulated cycle is better. IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) is a commonly used fertility treatment, especially for unexplained infertility.
In this procedure, semen is collected, washed to concentrate healthy motile s***m, and then gently placed into the uterus at the right time.

In a stimulated cycle, I prescribe medications to help eggs mature, followed by an HCG trigger to time ovulation accurately. In a natural cycle, we closely monitor the body’s natural ovulation without using fertility drugs.
Both approaches are effective, but stimulated cycle IUI usually offers a slightly higher success rate. The choice depends on individual fertility factors.

Many expecting mothers panic when their scan shows cord around the baby’s neck and immediately ask if a C-section is mandatory. I want to clarify this clearly.
In most cases, normal delivery is definitely possible even if the cord is around the neck. The key factor is how tightly the cord is wrapped. If it is loose and the baby’s heart rate remains stable, we can safely proceed with a normal delivery under close monitoring.
Only when the cord tightens and affects the baby’s heart rate do we consider an emergency C-section. So, please don’t panic-every case is assessed carefully to ensure the safest outcome for both mother and baby.

Many couples worry when more embryos are formed during IVF. I want to reassure you-there is absolutely no need to panic.
If you conceive successfully in the first IVF cycle and still have extra embryos, they can be safely frozen and preserved using the vitrification method. These embryos can be stored for years.

If you plan for another baby after two or three years, the same embryos can be thawed and transferred into the uterus for another successful pregnancy. If you decide not to use the remaining embryos, you can give your consent at the fertility center for their disposal. IVF gives you flexibility, safety, and hope for the future.

Many women ask me whether doing pathyalu after delivery is really necessary. I want to clarify this clearly. After delivery, people often give foods mixed with powders like cumin, dry ginger, ajwain, and coriander. Along with this, some women reduce their water intake-which is not good.
Low water intake makes urine concentrated and increases the risk of urinary tract infections. These powders can also harden stools, leading to fissures, pain, and even bleeding during motion. Some women suffer from this pain for a lifetime.
I strongly advise against strict pathyalu. With proper medical care and antibiotics, healing happens naturally. I didn’t follow pathyalu myself and had no problems. Eat balanced food, drink enough water, and allow your body to heal naturally after delivery.
