“I finished Brooklyn 99, Suits, The Office. You name it, I’ve seen it. And I’ve seen almost all the rom-coms, thriller and action films. Whatever was trending, I saw it.”
Because of the lockdown, flights were down. I had to stay at campus all this while since COVID started.
The entire LH started getting empty and I remember there was a point when no one was on the entire floor. Eventually they shifted us all to a single block. Going out to buy stuff was a huge hassle. They first sent me back 3 times to get my mask, then a dupatta to cover my head and then gloves too. The roads were empty and I had to walk back to the hostel.
The girls mess shut down and we were all directed to IFC-A, which was really not the best. I began to eat out a lot more. Discovered some new places too! On the flip side, I was watching movies, waking up at 10, eating out all the time :p. It was more like a vacation! I was able to witness a totally different side of our campus, especially when the yellow flowers bloomed and entire road used to look yellow.
I loved watching the sunset from an LH balcony. Many birds set up their home there and my pastime was to go there, drag my chair and sit there with a cup of coffee. I get my privacy at home usually. But when I was alone I was able to hold on to a thought for a longer time, without any bias, which was refreshing. I was able to think and give so much time for myself. Just take a pen and paper, keep drawing branches. There was no one to share my emotions with but I took it in a different way - there was no one there so I couldn’t disturb anyone, had to handle everything alone. If all this wouldn’t have happened then I wouldn’t have come out more mature and emotional.
I would video call my parents 2-3 times a day and even made a list of friends to call whenever I was bored. Everyone was free anyway!
Downsides? Yeah I became really lazy. (But the online semester and the assignments got me active again.) I celebrated my birthday alone, Christmas alone, Dussehra alone, Diwali alone, and my parents’ anniversary alone too. I even finished all my savings from the first year.
Now I’m back to my home in Lucknow, and although this has been a learning experience I realised I missed ma’s dal chawal the most.
