The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) is a political mission established by the 2003 UN Security Council Resolution 1500 at the request of the Government of Iraq.

عقدت اللجنة التوجيهية لخطة "الأمم المتحدة الواحدة" لدعم عودة المواطنين العراقيين من مخيم الهول اجتماعها اليوم في مقر بعثة الأمم المتحدة لمساعدة العراق (يونامي) في بغداد. وأشادت اللجنة بالتزام الحكومة المتواصل بإعادة جميع مواطنيها من شمال شرق سوريا، واستعرضت دعم الأمم المتحدة لهذه العملية، وناقشت التحضيرات للمؤتمر رفيع المستوى حول مخيم الهول المقرر عقده في نيويورك على هامش اجتماعات الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة. ترأس الاجتماع نائب الممثل الخاص للأمين العام والمنسق المقيم، غلام إسحق زي، بحضور نائب الممثل الخاص للشؤون السياسية والمساعدة الانتخابية، كلاوديو كوردوني، وممثلين عن وكالات الأمم المتحدة والشركاء الدوليين.

The Steering Committee on the ONE UN Plan for the return of Iraqi citizens from Al-Hol camp met today at UNAMI Headquarters in Baghdad. The Committee commended the Government’s continued commitment to repatriating all its citizens from northeast Syria, reviewed UN support for this process, and discussed preparations for the upcoming High-Level Al-Hol Conference, scheduled to be held in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The meeting was chaired by DSRSG/RC Ghulam Isaczai and attended by DSRSG/P Claudio Cordone, along with representatives from UN agencies and international partners.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan, today paid an official visit to the headquarters of the Independent High Electoral Commission (المفوضية العليا المستقلة للانتخابات ) of the Republic of Iraq, where he met with the Commission’s Chairperson, Judge Omar Ahmed Mohammed, along with several along with several member judges.

The Special Representative expressed his appreciation for and praised the efforts being made to hold the upcoming parliamentary , scheduled across on 11 November of this year, and stressed the importance of ensuring that these elections are free and conducted in line with international standards of integrity.

He also urged all Iraqi political forces to guarantee the right to participate and run for office on an equal footing among all components of Iraqi society, and to use electoral resources with transparency and fairness, in accordance with the applicable legal and procedural frameworks, in a manner that strengthens Iraq’s democratic process.

قام الممثل الخاص للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة ورئيس بعثة الأمم المتحدة لمساعدة العراق (يونامي)، الدكتور محمد الحسّان، اليوم بزيارة إلى مقر المفوضية العليا المستقلة للانتخابات التقى خلالها برئيس المفوضية القاضي عمر احمد محمد وعدد من القضاة الأعضاء.

وعبر الممثل الخاص عن ترحيبه وإشادته بالجهود المبذولة لإجراء #الانتخابات البرلمانية المقررة في عموم #العراق في 11 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر من العام الجاري، وأكد على أهمية ضمان أن تكون هذه الانتخابات حرة خاضعة لمعايير النزاهة الدولية.

ودعا الممثل الخاص القوى السياسية العراقية الى ضمان حق المشاركة والترشح على قدم المساواة لجميع مكوّنات المجتمع العراقي، واستخدام الموارد الانتخابية بشفافية وعدالة ضمن الأطر القانونية والإجرائية المسموح بها، بما يعزز مسيرة الديمقراطية في العراق.

In a digital world, this isn’t just a learning gap — it’s a major barrier to inclusion, opportunity, and dignity.

On this International Literacy Day, we spotlight the urgency of building inclusive, lifelong literacy systems fit for a digital era. Technology alone won’t solve this. We need trained, supported teachers to design and deliver literacy programmes that are context-relevant and that reach learners of all ages — wherever they are.

UNESCO Iraq: With the participation of UNESCO, the Parliamentary Development Institute, under the patronage of the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, hosted a parliamentary seminar dedicated to discussing the right to education in areas affected by ISIS crimes.
