طب بابل تجري الأمتحان الشامل لطالب دكتوراه

أقام فرع الأحياء المجهرية الطبية مناقشة الأمتحان الشامل لطالب الدكتوراه حسام عواد محمد رضا، وذلك في إطار الإجراءات العلمية المعتمدة لأستكمال متطلبات نيل شهادة الدكتوراه.
حيث جرى الأمتحان بإشراف مشترك من قبل الأستاذ الدكتورة زينب عادل غني والأستاذ الدكتور حسين عباس السلطاني، وبحضور نخبة من أساتذة الفرع واللجان العلمية المتخصصة؛ وتضمن الأمتحان إجراء الأختبار الشفهي للطالب للوقوف على رصانته المعرفية في أختصاصه الدقيق، إلى جانب إقرار خطة بحثه العلمي تمهيداً للشروع بمرحلة البحث الميداني، وتأتي هذه الخطوة تجسيداً لحرص عمادة الكلية وفرع الأحياء المجهرية الطبية على تعزيز جودة البحث الأكاديمي وضمان الرصانة العلمية للدراسات العليا، بما ينسجم مع المعايير المعتمدة في وزارة التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي لرفد المؤسسات الصحية والبحثية بكفاءات علمية متميزة .

College of Medicine – University of Babylon Conducts Comprehensive Examination for a PhD Candidate

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Babylon, Professor Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, the Department of Medical Microbiology held the comprehensive examination discussion for the PhD candidate Hussam Awad Mohammed Reda, as part of the approved academic procedures to fulfill the requirements for obtaining a doctoral degree.

The examination was jointly supervised by Professor Dr. Zainab Adel Ghani and Professor Dr. Hussein Abbas Al-Sultani, and was attended by a distinguished group of department faculty members and specialized scientific committees. The examination included an oral assessment to evaluate the candidate’s academic competence and depth of knowledge in his precise field of specialization, in addition to the approval of his scientific research proposal in preparation for commencing the field research phase.

This step reflects the commitment of the College Deanship and the Department of Medical Microbiology to enhancing the quality of academic research and ensuring the scientific rigor of postgraduate studies, in line with the standards adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the aim of supplying health and research institutions with distinguished scientific competencies.

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, and in the presence of the Scientific Vice Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Ali Hussein, a meeting of the committee overseeing the organization of the joint examination between the College of Medicine / University of Babylon and Al-Mustaqbal College of Medicine was held today, Wednesday, 28 January 2026.

The meeting discussed setting the general framework for conducting this year’s joint examination, which will be held for second-year students in the subjects of Anatomy and Medical Physiology, under the supervision of the College of Medicine / University of Babylon, in accordance with the twinning agreement between the two universities.

يكتشف ويصحح ثلاثة أخطاء علمية سريرية.

في خطوة تؤكد كفاءة الكوادر الطلابية العراقية، حقق طالب في كلية الطب بجامعة بابل إنجازاً علمياً لافتاً تمثل في أكتشاف وتصحيح ثلاثة أخطاء علمية سريرية في مصادر طبية معتمدة، مما يعكس دقة الملاحظة والعمق المعرفي.

تصحيح ثلاثة أخطاء في مصدر الجراحة المعتمد Bailey & Love’s 28th Edition بنسخته الأخيرة

الطالب في المرحلة السادسة "همام لطيف حمود" أثناء دراسته لمصدر الجراحة المعتمد في كليات الطب العراقية Bailey & Love’s 28th Edition وجد ثلاثة أخطاء علمية/سريرية في فصول مختلفة من المصدر، وبعد مراسلة الفريق التحريري عبر البريد الرسمي تم تأكيد الأخطاء وتحويلها لمؤلفي الفصول مع ضمان تصحيحها في الطبعات القادمة، وهي
• خطأ يخص تشخيص Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC)

In a step that underscores the competence of Iraqi medical students, a student at the College of Medicine, University of Babylon, achieved a notable scientific accomplishment by discovering and correcting three clinical scientific errors in authoritative medical sources—reflecting keen observation and solid scientific depth.

Correction of Three Errors in the Standard Surgical Reference
Bailey & Love’s Short Practice of Surgery, 28th Edition (latest version)

The sixth-year student Hammam Latif Hamoud, while studying the standard surgical reference used in Iraqi medical colleges (Bailey & Love’s Short Practice of Surgery, 28th Edition), identified three clinical/scientific errors across different chapters. After contacting the editorial team via the official email, the errors were confirmed and forwarded to the chapter authors, with assurance that they will be corrected in future editions. The errors are as follows:
• An error related to the diagnosis of Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC)
Part 11 – Abdominal, page 1207
• An error in the explanation of the Nutcracker phenomenon within the topic of Varicocele
Part 12 – Genitourinary, page 1563
• An anatomical/clinical error concerning the spleen (splenic notch)

طب بابل تناقش بحث لنيل زمالة المجلس العراقي في علم الأمراض

بحث علمي قدم ضمن متطلبات نيل زمالة المجلس العراقي في علم الأمراض-أختصاص النسيج المرضي

الأرتباط بين الدراسة المرضية لأمراض الجنبة ومقارنتها بالخصائص التنظيرية للجنبة والسمات الشعاعية في محافظة بابل

وسلّطت الدراسة الضوء على أمراض الجنبة بوصفها من المشكلات التنفسية الشائعة التي تتطلب وسائل تشخيصية دقيقة، مؤكدةً أهمية التكامل بين الفحص الخلوي للسائل الجنبي والخزعة الجنبية والتنظير الجنبي، إلى جانب المعطيات السريرية والفحوصات الشعاعية، ولا سيما في حالات الأنصباب الجنبي الخبيث.

وأعتمدت الباحثة المنهج المقطعي الأستعادي، وشملت الدراسة 65 مريضًا يعانون من أنصباب جنبي.

وأظهرت النتائج أن 60% من الحالات كانت آفات حميدة، في حين شكّلت الآفات الخبيثة 40% وفق نتائج الخزعة الجنبية. كما بيّنت الدراسة وجود علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين نتائج الفحص الخلوي للسائل الجنبي ونتائج الخزعة الجنبية، إضافةً إلى وجود أرتباط معنوي بين إصابة الجنبة الحشوية ونتائج الخزعة.

وأكدت الباحثة أن الفحص الخلوي للسائل الجنبي يُعد أداة تشخيصية مهمة وذات موثوقية عالية في حال كانت نتائجه إيجابية، إلا أن الأعتماد عليه منفرداً لا يكفي لأستبعاد الخباثة، مما يستدعي دعم نتائجه بإجراء الخزعة الجنبية والتنظير الجنبي للوصول إلى تشخيص أدق ووضع خطة علاجية مناسبة.

College of Medicine / University of Babylon Discusses a Research Project for the Iraqi Board Fellowship in Pathology

A scientific research project was presented as part of the requirements for obtaining the Iraqi Board Fellowship in Pathology – Histopathology subspecialty.

The researcher Fatima Al-Zahraa Fares Hamoud presented her study entitled:
“The Correlation between the Histopathological Study of Pleural Diseases and Their Comparison with Pleuroscopic Findings and Radiological Features in Babylon Governorate,”
under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hadeel Abdul-Ilah Karbal.

The study highlighted pleural diseases as common respiratory problems that require accurate diagnostic approaches, emphasizing the importance of integration between cytological examination of pleural fluid, pleural biopsy, and pleuroscopy, alongside clinical data and radiological investigations, particularly in cases of malignant pleural effusion.

The researcher adopted a retrospective cross-sectional study design, including 65 patients suffering from pleural effusion.

The results showed that 60% of cases were benign lesions, while 40% were malignant, based on pleural biopsy findings. The study also demonstrated a statistically significant correlation between pleural fluid cytology results and pleural biopsy findings, as well as a significant association between visceral pleural involvement and biopsy results.

The researcher concluded that pleural fluid cytology is an important and highly reliable diagnostic tool when results are positive; however, reliance on it alone is insufficient to exclude malignancy. Therefore, its findings should be supported by pleural biopsy and pleuroscopy to achieve a more accurate diagnosis and to establish an appropriate treatment plan.

شهدت كلية الطب بجامعة بابل مناقشة بحثاً ضمن متطلبات نيل زمالة المجلس العراقي في علم الأمراض،النسيج المرضي.

تقييم أهمية التعبير المناعي النسيجي (PD-L1) في سرطان البروستات وأرتباطه بالمعايير السريرية والمرضية.

تأتي أهمية هذه الدراسة من كون سرطان البروستات
يُعد ثاني أكثر أنواع السرطان شيوعًا والخامس من حيث أسباب الوفاة بين الرجال حول العالم.
وأكثر أنواع سرطان البروستات شيوعًا هو السرطان الغدي.
لقد ثبت أن تعبير الموت الخلوي المبرمج 1(PD-L1) يرتبط بإنذار سيئ في أنواع مختلفة من السرطانات البشرية. ومع ذلك، فإن البيانات المتوفرة حول الأهمية الإنذارية والسريرية المرضية لتعبير PD-L1 في سرطانات البروستات محدودة، ولا يزال التأثير العلاجي للعلاج المضاد لـ PD-1/PD-L1 مثار جدل.

أُجريت هذه الدراسة الأستعادية من النوع المقطعي في مركز بابل التدريبي لعلم الأمراض في مستشفى الحلة التعليمي وأستمرت من كانون الأول لسنة 2024 ولغاية كانون الأول سنة 2025.
أُجريت الدراسة على عينات جراحية محفوظة بالفورمالين ومضمنة بالبارافين شملت 50 حالة من السرطان الغدي البروستاتي.
تم تحليل التعبير المناعي لـ PD-L1 إحصائيًا وتصنيفه وفقًا لنظام الدرجة الإيجابية المركبة (Combined Positive Score) في جميع الحالات، وربطه مع العمر، ومستوى PSA قبل الجراحة، والغزو اللمفاوي الوعائي، والغزو حول الأعصاب، والدرجة النسيجية المرضية.

شملت هذه الدراسة 50 حالة من السرطان الغدي البروستاتي، حيث أظهرت 44.0% من الحالات إيجابية PD-L1. وأظهر الأرتباط مع معايير الدراسة دلالة إيجابية مع درجة الورم لدى المرضى، والغزو اللمفاوي الوعائي، والغزو حول الأعصاب.
لوحظ تعبير PD-L1 المناعي بشكل واضح في حالات السرطان الغدي البروستاتي. وظهر أن التعبير يعتمد على النمط النسيجي، إذ ازداد التعبير مع فقدان التمايز وتقدم درجة غليسون. كما ظهر أن التعبير يرتبط بشكل ملحوظ بالغزو حول الأعصاب والغزو اللمفاوي الوعائي، وبالتالي عدوانية الورم، مما يؤكد إمكانية أستخدامه كعامل إنذاري وتنبؤي محتمل، في حين أن عمر المريض ومستوى المستضد النوعي للبروستات (PSA) قبل الجراحة لا يرتبطان بتعبير PD-L1.

College of Medicine, University of Babylon Discusses a Research Study as Part of the Requirements for the Iraqi Board Fellowship in Pathology (Histopathology)

The College of Medicine at the University of Babylon witnessed the discussion of a research study submitted as part of the requirements for obtaining the Iraqi Board Fellowship in Pathology (Histopathology) by the researcher Mustafa Kazem Aboud.
The study was entitled:

“Evaluation of the Significance of Immunohistochemical Expression of PD-L1 in Prostate Cancer and Its Association with Clinical and Pathological Parameters.”

The research was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul-Ridha Akhiyoush Al-Khafaji.

The importance of this study stems from the fact that prostate cancer is the second most common cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among men worldwide. The most common type of prostate cancer is adenocarcinoma. It has been established that the expression of programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) is associated with poor prognosis in various human malignancies. However, available data regarding the prognostic and clinicopathological significance of PD-L1 expression in prostate cancer are limited, and the therapeutic impact of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy remains controversial.

This retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted at the Babylon Training Center for Pathology at Al-Hilla Teaching Hospital and extended from December 2024 to December 2025. The study was carried out on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded surgical specimens and included 50 cases of prostatic adenocarcinoma. Immunohistochemical expression of PD-L1 was statistically analyzed and classified according to the Combined Positive Score (CPS) system in all cases, and correlated with age, preoperative prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level, lymphovascular invasion, perineural invasion, and histopathological tumor grade.

The study included 50 cases of prostatic adenocarcinoma, of which 44.0% showed positive PD-L1 expression. A significant positive association was demonstrated between PD-L1 expression and tumor grade, lymphovascular invasion, and perineural invasion.

Immunohistochemical expression of PD-L1 was clearly observed in cases of prostatic adenocarcinoma. The expression was found to be dependent on histological pattern, increasing with loss of differentiation and higher Gleason grades. It was also significantly associated with perineural invasion and lymphovascular invasion, and consequently with tumor aggressiveness. These findings support the potential use of PD-L1 as a prognostic and predictive marker. In contrast, patient age and preoperative PSA level were not associated with PD-L1 expression.

مساعد رئيس جامعة بابل للشؤون الإدارية يتفقد مشاريع البنى التحتية في كلية الطب

أجرى مساعد رئيس جامعة بابل للشؤون الإدارية، الأستاذ الدكتور ميثاق طالب الجبوري، زيارة ميدانية تفقدية إلى كلية الطب، وكان في أستقباله عميد الكلية الأستاذ الدكتور مهند عباس الشلاه، وذلك لمتابعة سير العمل في مشاريع تطوير البنى التحتية التي تشهدها الكلية.

شملت الجولة زيارة المواقع الإنشائية الخاصة بـ القاعات الدراسية الجديدة والمختبرات العلمية، حيث اطلع الدكتور الجبوري على مراحل العمل الجارية، مشدداً على ضرورة الألتزام بالمعايير الهندسية والفنية المعتمدة والجداول الزمنية المحددة للإنجاز، لضمان توفير بيئة تعليمية متكاملة تليق بطلبة وأساتذة الكلية.

رافق المساعد الإداري في جولته عميد الكلية السيد الشلاه ومسؤول الشعبة الهندسية للكلية المهندسة نادية شهاب حمد، إضافة إلى اللجنة الهندسية المشرفة على المشاريع من الجامعة. وتم خلال الجولة أستعراض تفاصيل المخططات الهندسية ونسب الإنجاز المتحققة في القاعات والمختبرات، فضلاً عن مناقشة مستوى الخدمات اللوجستية والمرافق الملحقة بالمباني الجديدة.

من جانبه، ثمن عميد الكلية الدكتور مهند الشلاه الدعم المستمر من قبل رئاسة الجامعة، مؤكداً أن هذه المشاريع تمثل طفرة نوعية في أستيعاب الأعداد المتزايدة من الطلبة وتطوير الجانب التطبيقي والبحثي من خلال المختبرات الحديثة.
وأختتم المساعد الإداري جولته بالإشادة بالجهود المبذولة من قبل الكوادر الهندسية والجهات المشرفة، مؤكداً أن جامعة بابل تضع تطوير البنى التحتية لكلياتها العلمية في مقدمة أولوياتها لتعزيز مكانة الجامعة الأكاديمية.

Assistant President of the University of Babylon for Administrative Affairs Inspects Infrastructure Projects at the College of Medicine

The Assistant President of the University of Babylon for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mithaq Talib Al-Jubouri, conducted a field inspection visit to the College of Medicine, where he was received by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah. The visit aimed to follow up on the progress of infrastructure development projects currently underway at the college.

The tour included visits to the construction sites of the new lecture halls and scientific laboratories. During the visit, Prof. Dr. Al-Jubouri reviewed the ongoing stages of work and stressed the importance of adhering to approved engineering and technical standards as well as the specified timelines for completion, in order to provide an integrated educational environment befitting the college’s students and faculty.

Accompanying the Assistant President on the tour were the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Al-Shalah, the Head of the College Engineering Division, Engineer Nadia Shihab Hamad, in addition to the university’s engineering committee supervising the projects. The tour included a review of detailed engineering plans and the achieved completion rates of the lecture halls and laboratories, as well as discussions on the level of logistical services and auxiliary facilities associated with the new buildings.

For his part, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Mohend Al-Shalah, praised the continuous support provided by the University Presidency, affirming that these projects represent a qualitative leap in accommodating the increasing numbers of students and in developing the practical and research aspects through modern laboratories.

The administrative assistant concluded his tour by commending the efforts exerted by the engineering staff and supervising bodies, emphasizing that the University of Babylon places the development of infrastructure in its scientific colleges at the forefront of its priorities in order to strengthen the university’s academic standing.

برئاسة الأستاذ الدكتور مهند عباس الشلاه عميد كلية الطب وبحضور المعاونين العلمي والأداري وكافة رؤساء الفروع والأستاذ الدكتور نصير جواد حمد المختار ممثلاً لتدريسيي الكلية والأستاذ الدكتور باسم عبد العالي عبد أميناً للمجلس عقد مجلس الكلية، حيث رحب العميد بالحضور متمنياً لهم التوفيق في كافة الأعمال المكلفين بها، ومن ثم ناقش المجلس جملة من التوجيهات التي تخص واجبات التدريسيين في الفروع العلمية وسير الأعمال في اللجنة الأمتحانية وبما يضمن الدقة في العملية التعليمية وتحقيق أهدافها المرجوة ويحقق كذلك الفائدة القصوى لطلبة الكلية ويضمن مكتسباتهم العلمية. أستضاف المجلس بعد ذلك رئيس ومقرر وحدة التعليم الطبي في الكلية وهم كل من الاستاذ الدكتور عادل حسن الهنداوي والأستاذ الدكتور محمد عبد كاظم السعدي وكذلك رئيس لجنة ضمان جودة الأمتحانات الأستاذ الدكتورة سهيلة فاضل محمد لمناقشة العديد من الأمور التي تخص هذه الوحدة ومحاضر اللجان المنضوية ضمنها والمقترحات التي تقدمها هذه الوحدة المهمة في الكلية والتي تهدف بالمجمل إلى تقويم وتصحيح مسار العملية التعليمية وضمان دقتها ومخرجاتها، حيث أتخذت العديد من القرارات المهمة والتي ستدخل حيز التنفيذ في الفصل الدراسي الثاني، وتمت بعد ذلك مناقشة ما تبقى من فقرات في جدول الأعمال.

College of Medicine – University of Babylon Holds College Council Meeting

The College of Medicine at the University of Babylon held a meeting of the College Council chaired by Professor Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah, Dean of the College of Medicine, and attended by the Scientific and Administrative Assistants, all Heads of Academic Departments, Professor Dr. Naseer Jawad Hamad Al-Mukhtar as the representative of the faculty members, and Professor Dr. Basim Abdul-Aali Abd as the Council Secretary.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Dean welcomed the attendees and wished them success in all the tasks assigned to them. The Council then discussed a number of directives related to the duties of academic staff in the scientific departments and the progress of work in the Examination Committee, in a manner that ensures accuracy in the educational process, achieves its intended objectives, maximizes benefits for the college’s students, and safeguards their academic achievements.

The Council subsequently hosted the Head and Rapporteur of the Medical Education Unit at the College, Professor Dr. Adel Hassan Al-Hindawi and Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Kadhim Al-Saadi, as well as the Head of the Examination Quality Assurance Committee, Professor Dr. Suhaila Fadhil Mohammed, to discuss several issues related to this unit, the minutes of its affiliated committees, and the proposals submitted by this important unit within the College. These efforts aim, in general, to evaluate and rectify the course of the educational process and ensure its accuracy and outcomes.

A number of important decisions were adopted, which will come into effect in the second semester. The Council then proceeded to discuss the remaining items on the agenda.

جامعة بابل تحتفي بتخرج الطلبة الأوائل للعام الدراسي 2024–2025

الأستاذ الدكتور أمين عجيل الياسري المحترم،

أقامت جامعة بابل مراسم الاحتفال المركزي لتخرج الطلبة الأوائل للعام الدراسي 2024–2025، ضمن دورة التميز والإبداع – الدورة 32، وذلك تقديراً للجهود العلمية المتميزة التي بذلها الطلبة المتفوقون خلال مسيرتهم الدراسية.
وشهدت المراسم حضور السيد عميد كلية الطب
الأستاذ الدكتور مهند عباس الشلاه المحترم،
إلى جانب السادة المعاونين العلمي والإداري، ورؤساء الفروع العلمية، وعدد من التدريسيين والطلبة.

وتضمن الأحتفال تكريم الطلبة الأوائل بمنحهم شهادات تقديرية،تعبيراً عن أعتزاز جامعة بابل بإنجازاتهم العلمية، وتحفيزاً لهم على مواصلة مسيرة العطاء والتميز في خدمة المجتمع والوطن، فيما تضمن الحفل أيضاً تقديم جوائز رمزية للطلبة المكرمين.

University of Babylon Celebrates the Graduation of Top-Ranking Students for the Academic Year 2024–2025

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research,
Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi,
and under the supervision of the President of the University of Babylon,
Professor Dr. Amin Ajeel Al-Yasiri,

the University of Babylon held its central graduation ceremony honoring the top-ranking students for the academic year 2024–2025, as part of the Excellence and Creativity Cycle – 32nd Edition, in recognition of the outstanding academic efforts demonstrated by the high-achieving students throughout their academic journey.

The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the College of Medicine,
Professor Dr. Mohend Abbass Al-Shalah,
along with the Assistant Deans for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, heads of academic departments, and a number of faculty members and students.

The celebration included honoring the top-ranking students by awarding them certificates of appreciation, as an expression of the University of Babylon’s pride in their academic achievements and as encouragement for them to continue their path of dedication and excellence in serving the community and the nation. The ceremony also included the presentation of symbolic gifts to the honored students.
