Job Title: Senior Molecular Technologist
Reports to: Laboratory Director
Location: 60 Meter Road, Mamostayan Qr., Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq
Responsibilities, Duties, and Accountabilities:
- Perform DNA/RNA extraction from clinical specimens using manual and automated systems.
- Conduct, analyze, and interpret molecular assays including PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, multiplex PCR, sequencing, and NGS.
- Validate, verify, and implement new molecular assays in compliance with ISO 15189 and CAP guidelines.
- Supervise workflow across pre-PCR, amplification, and post-PCR zones to ensure contamination-free operations.
- Monitor daily QC performance and participate in external proficiency testing (PT/EQA).
- Review and authorize molecular test results prior to release, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
- Monitor and ensure timely turnaround of molecular test results (TAT) to meet clinical expectations.
- Troubleshoot assay failures, equipment malfunctions, and reagent-related issues; implement corrective actions promptly.
- Manage reagent inventory, instrument calibration, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain proper documentation, checklists, and audit files to support inspections.
- Provide technical guidance, leadership, and mentorship to molecular staff.
- Train staff on procedures, instrumentation, and quality practices.
- Conduct competency assessments and identify targeted training needs.
- Liaise with clinicians and other laboratory sections to ensure appropriate test selection and result interpretation.
- Participate in method optimization and assay development projects.
- Take initiative in expanding the test menu, introducing new analyzers, and setting up new branches.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers regarding new technologies, consumables, and troubleshooting support.
- Support core laboratory operations, including clinical chemistry and hematology, when required.
- Support internal audits and external inspections by CAP and the Ministry of Health.
- Promote biosafety, professionalism, patient confidentiality, and high-quality service delivery.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Laboratory Director to achieve laboratory objectives.
