WATA or WaterDance has moves that often connect you to your birth or conception. The warm water along with the holds mimic being in the womb of your mother. This is deep deep work. And we learn how to hold space when people do go into their process. In order to be a certified practitioner you are required to do at least 100 hours of Psychotherapy work because people will go into a process and it’s important that you are prepared to be there for them.

Work forms a majority of your life. Its important to choose it wisely.

I chose to start working in Water because it just made sense for me as a massage therapist.

I love the type of work, the versatility, the creative space for problem solving.

As I am in my 40s I am no spring chicken so its nice to have gentle work that is still effective.

The balance is not only physical it is also emotional. It keeps me in a calm relaxed state and grounds me.

What are your reasons if you are a therapist?
Have you tried this work if you are new to these posts?

Anatomy Trains has been a hot topic for me for a very long time. Well before getting my feet wet.

The water is a wonderful medium to work with. Fascia needs to be hydrated and supple. Water helps people soften up emotionally and physically. which in turn softens their physical body.

Some reference points of Anatomy Trains and Water working together.

Fascial Connections Move as One – Water reveals how the body’s myofascial lines work together, not as isolated muscles.

Fluidity Meets Structure – In water, Thomas Myers’ Anatomy Trains concepts come alive through natural, continuous movement.

Balance Through Buoyancy – The weightlessness of water allows deeper exploration of postural patterns without compression.

Fascia Feels the Flow – Warm water enhances proprioception, helping therapists and clients sense the continuity of fascia.

Therapy Beyond Technique – Understanding fascial lines transforms aquatic work into an integrative experience for the whole body.

Connection is Key – Every stretch, rotation, and gentle movement in water reflects the body’s unified design.

From Tension to Release – Water helps dissolve holding patterns, allowing fascia to rehydrate and reorganize.

Bridging Land and Water Therapies – Anatomy Trains gives aquatic practitioners a shared language with physiotherapists and bodyworkers.

See the Body Differently – In water, structure and flow merge — a living demonstration of the anatomy trains in motion

Rehabilitation comes from the individuals desire to make progress.

I shared how impressed I was from Roberts first session. His second session I was joking with him, I told him not to show off.

He was making so much progress so fast. I measured his progress with the distance he was covering with each step.

His neural connections were firing better.

His second session we worked on his core, I wanted him to connect and engage to the muscles he would normally need to walk.

Isolating parts of his body to make sure he was using the right muscles and producing power.

We kept things fun by joking about his different gaits.

We also worked on strengthening his legs. This form of movement and exercise is crucial to make a recovery.

Robert gets his Watsu session after his work.

Rehab in Water is a powerful way to not only work on the physical but also the emotional and psychological parts of the person.

I had the opportunity to work with Robert last month.

Session 1 was getting to know each other. Building trust and learning limits. Was mainly massage, movement and relaxation.

I added a little assisted walking and use of his legs and hands plus balance. We walked a few steps in all directions.

Session 2 was all about working on his core and engaging muscles. He was not firing the needed muscles. The magical part was when I gave him a session of Watsu, he was able to relax completely. I has not see him stay still like this.

It was achieved by closing his body and providing him with a firm support. The move is called accordion, but I held him closed for a little longer.

The embrace may have helped him tap into a space of security.

He did start shaking at the end of the session when he was awakened from this state.

I will share a seperate story of his walking journey.

Thank you for your interest and attention.

Support. The first point I like to focus on when teaching. When you feel safe and secure, that is when trust is built. And from trust comes surrender. And from surrender comes the process work.

We spent a majority of the time working on various ways to support our receiver without being intrusive. A beautiful sessions often involves you being out of the picture.

Next week we will go deeper with Water Dance and reviewing under water elements. Join us if you are in Reykjavik.
