Spring is a season of renewal, growth, and gentle transformation 🌱

Inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine, here are 5 mindful ways to align with the energy of spring.

Which one are you focusing on this season?

Here in the West, slowing down is often seen as a weakness, a sign of stagnation. But Winter isn’t asking you to push harder, to start that new thing, or to be productive. It’s asking you to slow down and conserve your energy.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a pass to become a couch potato and eat chips all day, doing nothing or disconnecting from life. Winter is just inviting you to move slow and gently, nourish well and protect your energy, just as nature does.

Rest is not falling behind.
Slowing down is not giving up.
It’s how we prepare for renewal.

Enjoy saving your energy.
Enjoy the slow pace.
Spring will come.

In the winter season we rest, reflect, go slow and recharge.
Water governs the Kidneys and Bladder, supports our bones, and sharpens our ability to truly listen.

When balanced, water brings wisdom, resilience, and quiet strength. When out of balance, fear may arise.
This season is not about pushing forward, but about rest, looking inward and restoring what sustains.

Winter Solstice or Dongzhi Festival marks the Winter Solstice, the longest night and the turning point of the year.

Traditionally, Dongzhi was seen as a time of renewal and balance. Families gathered to eat warm, nourishing foods, honor ancestors, and align with the rhythms of nature. It was a reminder to rest, protect energy, and support the body through winter.

Yin energy is at its strongest and Yang energy begins to return. Even though winter continues, the days now slowly start to get longer, bringing a little more light each day.

Dongzhi reminds us to slow down, rest, and align with natural cycles, trusting that growth will come when the time is right.

I am not the same person I was yesterday, nor the one I was an hour ago, a minute ago, a breath ago. With every passing moment, I am becoming. So I’ve learned to listen to my body, to my spirit and to ask what I need now, in this exact moment. Sometimes might forget, but then the world reminds me. Sometimes I walk the same path for days, for weeks, until one quiet moment reveals a new hunger, a new kind of nourishment. And when it does, I listen again. I feel. I follow.

The Metal element invites us to align with the rhythm of autumn.🍂 Take a deep breath, slow down, and gently release what we no longer need.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Metal governs the Lungs and Large Intestine, organs of intake and release. Metal loves routine and structure making it the perfect season to create supportive rituals, like a daily breathwork practice to strengthen and nourish the lungs.

When the Metal element is balanced we feel clear, organized, and have the ability to refine and let go. When out of balance, we may experience grief, dryness, or issues with the skin and respiratory system.

Start your mornings with slow, mindful breathing, wrap yourself in a cozy blanket and sip a warm nourishing tea while you plan your day. That is a true Metal way to start the autumn day.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Metal element represents autumn and the sacred act of letting go. 🍂
Just as trees release their leaves, we too are invited to shed what no longer serves us, like old grief, cluttered thoughts, or attachments to the past.
When Metal is in balance, we feel clear, inspired, and able to breathe deeply into the present moment. When blocked, we may hold on too tightly, feel sadness, or resist change.
