🇬🇧 Vertical alveolar ridge augmentation is highly technique-sensitive, and healing complications remain one of the main causes of partial graft failure or compromised outcomes. As shown here, early exposures are associated with a higher risk of infection and graft loss, whereas late complications are usually less destructive. Two key strategies may help reduce these events: first, improving reinforced PTFE membranes/mesh adaptation and customization to obtain a more precise graft contour and reduce mechanical tension on the flap; second, enhancing soft tissue closure and vascularized coverage by using Bichat’s buccal fat pad, especially in challenging maxillary defects. In short, complication prevention in vertical GBR depends on both prosthetic-surgical planning of the regenerative device and optimization of flap healing.

🇬🇧 In this randomized clinical trial, we compared two different digital approaches for vertical ridge augmentation: customized reinforced PTFE mesh and customized CAD/CAM titanium mesh. Seeing this work published in Clinical Oral Implants Research is especially meaningful, as this journal is one of the leading international references in implant dentistry.

🇬🇧 One highlight of the year 2025 was my participation at the international congress of the Digital Dentistry Society, where I had the opportunity to speak in front of more than a thousand colleagues from all around the world. My lecture “How Digital Strategies and Technologies Improve the Predictability of Vertical Ridge Augmentation” reflected my belief that digital workflows are reshaping every phase of bone regeneration. 🇬🇧 Another meaningful chapter of this year brought me to Padua, where the Italian Academy of Osseointegration (IAO) held its international meeting. Receiving the Osseointegration Award for clinical research in front of colleagues who have become friends over the years was truly emotional. I am sincerely grateful for the recognition and for the enthusiasm shared throughout the event.

The paper on “5-Year Outcomes of Alveolar Ridge Augmentation Using Customized Titanium Meshes With or Without Resorbable Membranes” is now under review in a high-impact journal. Looking forward to its publication.

🇬🇧 Continuing my journey 2025, I had the privilege of presenting the results of a randomized clinical trial titled “Esthetics, Oral-Health-Impact Profile, Peri-Implant Bone and Soft Tissues After Vertical Ridge Augmentation” in Monaco at the annual congress of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO), 18th-20th September, 2025. Being awarded the 1st Prize for Research – Clinical Innovation was an unforgettable moment for me and for my entire research group. It represents years of dedication, challenges, and shared effort. Standing on that stage and discussing our findings with friends, colleagues and leaders in implant dentistry made the experience even more special. I am really thankful to the EAO for this recognition.
