robert wilson lights up the Michelangelo's Pietà Rondanini | castello sforzesco-mi april 8 - may 13, 2025

The famous American artist is the protagonist of the cultural program of the Salone with an installation dedicated to the famous work by Michelangelo Buonarroti.
The 2025 edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, from 8 to 13 April, opens with a special project in the year of Euroluce. Robert Wilson, master of light, signs “Mother”, an installation inspired by Michelangelo’s Pietà Rondanini, in dialogue with Arvo Pärt’s “Stabat Mater”.
Wilson reinterprets the masterpiece in a 30-minute experience of light, music and images, on stage at the Museo Pietà Rondanini – Castello Sforzesco. The work can be visited by reservation until 18 May, with live performances until 13 April, extending the experience beyond Design Week.
“For Robert Wilson, light is not just decoration, but what allows us to see and be moved”, explains Franco Laera, curator of the project.
For the inauguration of the 63rd edition at Teatro La Scala, Wilson curates THE NIGHT BEFORE. OBJECT CHAIRS OPERA, with the Orchestra conducted by Michele Spotti.
Wilson is one of the announced special guests of “The Euroluce International Lighting Forum”: the first edition of a global meeting for a multi-voiced discussion on the major themes of lighting design. On April 10 and 11, the Forum will bring together a panel of experts from different sectors, including lighting designers, creatives, architects, scientists and lighting professionals to discuss crucial issues such as the interaction between light, architecture and well-being.

Il celebre artista americano è protagonista del programma culturale del Salone con un’installazione dedicata alla celebre opera di Michelangelo Buonarroti .
L’edizione 2025 del Salone del Mobile.Milano, dall’8 al 13 aprile, si apre con un progetto speciale nell’anno di Euroluce. Robert Wilson, maestro della luce, firma “Mother”, un’installazione ispirata alla Pietà Rondanini di Michelangelo, in dialogo con lo “Stabat Mater” di Arvo Pärt.
Wilson reinterpreta il capolavoro in un’esperienza di luce, musica e immagini di 30 minuti, in scena al Museo Pietà Rondanini – Castello Sforzesco. L’opera sarà visitabile su prenotazione fino al 18 maggio, con esecuzioni dal vivo fino al 13 aprile, estendendo l’esperienza oltre la Settimana del Design.
“La luce per Robert Wilson non è solo decoro, ma ciò che ci permette di vedere ed emozionarci”, spiega Franco Laera, curatore del progetto.
