Hello all. With the new entrance and exit system coming into force in October getting in and out of the Schengen area will now involve biometric, Face ID and God knows what else requirements kept on file electronically. Together with a charge for a visa. So If you a resident and have not yet applied for the carta di soggiorno that expat Brits can apply for now is the time to do it as it. A take a few mo the to sort out.
These changes affect all non eu residents although only UK residents who were here before the Brexit deadline can apply for a CDS. People who come from outside the eu and are not subject to the Withdrawal Agreement need to apply for a permesso di soggiorno.
If you need any help please let me know, if be happy to help.

Another car related posting.
If you haven’t re-registered your UK plated car yet, and this should have been done within 6 months if you gaining residency, and you can prove it was over here before the Dec 2020 Brexit dead line there is no import duty to pay. Ferry ticks with the vehicles number plate on it should be ok especially if you can back it up with a time and date stamp of the car on the ferry. Obviously you “won’t” have used the car on Italian roads will you?

If you’re returning to the uk permanently and taking your Italian registered car back don’t forget to deregister it when you do as the bollo is still chargeable if you don’t. And they will come after you to get payment. It’s the same the other way too. The DVLC will continue to expect road tax payments even if the car is no longer in the uk unless you permanently export it. This information was given to me by my lovely English speaking insurance broker in Casoli the other day as he tried to sort one of his English clients car issue out.

I had a long chat with our neighbour, this morning about vaccinations for the over 80’s as I hadn’t heard of anyone who had had the jab yet and she gave me a web link where you can show your interest in having the jab. It’s only open to those over 80 and those with a health issue like a heart problem or cancer. If you copy and paste this link into a browser that automatically translates for you, google chrome or the latest version of internet explorer, you’ll be presented with a page where on entering the Codice Fiscale and the carta sanitare numbers it will get all the medical and address details and send the request to whoever sorts out the jabs in your ASL area.

Abruzzo interpret helps Nicky in ‘A New Life in the Sun’ on Channel 4

I’m very proud to have helped Nicky and John, her charming father, in their move to Abruzzo. You may have seen their journey on Channel 4’s “A New Life in The Sun” on daily at 4pm (UK time) over the last week or so. I helped them not only with their residency application but also with their registration with the local ASL office thus giving them access to the Italian health care system and the registration of their two cars and of course getting an Italian driving licence. Sadly I wasn’t there when the vets swooped so wasn’t able to help her then but we are in constant contact as Pat and I have become very good friends with both of them.
There are lots of tasks that non Italian speaking Residents from the UK who want a new life in the sun will need to do to live in Italy especially now with Brexit and I’m here to help with interpreting if needed.
Just give me a call or message me.

I don’t know if you saw it but the British Consulate in Milan was holding one to one consultations called Registration Road show and it was the turn of Abruzzo and Molise today. So to make sure I’ve not missed something that needed to be done before B day I made an appointment and I was told that there are 4 main points that you need to make sure you’ve covered before the end of the year.
1) Make sure you have or have at least started the residency process and that you have completed the secondary attestation process too There is to be a new Pan European Tessera ( new type of identity card) for UK residents which will be issued early in the New Year. I would imagine that this will involve another visit to our wonderful Anagrafe in the Commune and they will probably know nothing about them either!!

2) If you’re a driver you need to have started the process of changing your driving license before the end of the year too. If you don’t then you will need to take the Italian driving test!

3) Make sure that you have more than 6 months left on your British passport before renewal is needed.

4) That you have your health care provisions covered. If you have already registered at your local ASL office then you need do nothing. If like me you have to wait till retirement to get your S1 and you are legally resident in Italy you are LEGALLY entitled to register when you reach UK retirement age and once you get your S1 from the DWP in the UK you can take it down to the local ASL to get your European wide health card. If you are not entitled to this card you can either get private insurance to cover your health needs or you can buy into the system but this has to be done via an annual payment in January but this is not pro-rata for the year.

If you’ve not started any of the essentials and need any help please give me either a ring or send me a message. As many of you know I offer interpreting but not legal translation or advice.

Just helped my first customer who is having building work done. I was able to put his point of view and ideas to the builder who now understands exactly what is required of him. if you need help with interpreting (not legal translations) then message me for further details. David

Firstly a little bit about me. I learnt Italian in the early 70’s when my father was posted to the British Embassy in Rome for 3 years. I was 16 and was sent to school in Rome where the teachers polished the Italian I was learning from the local teenagers who lived in my neighbourhood. 40 something years later my wife and I moved lock stock and barrel to Italy and bought our village home just outside Atessa.

In the 2 years since we bought our house even though local Italians and
ex pats have been so kind and helpful there have been many situations when I have thought that if I didn’t speak Italian how much more difficult it would be. Like all ex pats I have had to get residency, changed my driving licence, replaced my car plates as well as everyday situations such as dealing with plumbers, builders, garages, the Commune, SASI, and many more things.

I’ve now decided to offer my services as an interpreter to fellow expats who don’t speak Italian well at the moment or perhaps don’t have the confidence to deal with situations face to face or on the telephone. So, for a small hourly rate I will come to you, wherever you are in southern Abruzzo and act as your interpreter. I do not offer a written translation service just a service to help you get over that “I can’t speak Italian well enough” problem. I also do not offer any legal advice.
If you are interested in finding out more then please pm me or telephone me. If you are using an English phone then you can call 07890792885 or from an Italian phone 3393017061
