🌞 Buon Ferragosto from Bella Italia Genealogy! 🇮🇹

Today, Italy celebrates Ferragosto, one of the country’s oldest and most beloved summer traditions. Dating back to ancient Rome, it was once a holiday introduced by Emperor Augustus to give workers and animals a well-earned rest after the harvest. Over time, it also became a Catholic feast day for the Assumption of Mary.

Now, Ferragosto is all about sunshine, beaches, mountains, family feasts, and taking a real pause to enjoy the heart of summer. Across Italy, you’ll find towns filled with music, fireworks, and long lunches that stretch into the evening.

🇮🇹 Important Win for Citizenship by Descent! 🇮🇹

On July 31, 2025, Italy’s Constitutional Court ruled on a case originating from Bologna, reaffirming a key principle: an eligible descendant of an Italian citizen is born with the right to citizenship by blood (jure sanguinis). 👏

While this case did not directly address the new laws introduced in March, the ruling sends a powerful and positive message. It reflects the Court’s understanding that Italian citizenship is a right by blood, something you are born with, not a privilege to be granted or denied.

This is a meaningful and hopeful signal as legal challenges to the new restrictions move forward. It reinforces the idea that citizenship by descent is a constitutional right, and gives strength to those who are still fighting for recognition.

Recently, Alessandro had the pleasure of guiding the Giaquinto family through the charming old town of Puccianiello, right in the heart of beautiful Caserta. 🏛️✨

From visiting the local cemetery to walking the quiet streets and stepping into the church where generations of Giaquinto family history unfolded, it was a powerful journey through time. Alessandro shared family documents, hand-drawn charts, and detailed stories he uncovered, bringing their ancestry to life in the very place it began.

And stay tuned… the most unforgettable part is still to come: a family reunion with relatives Alessandro discovered and brought together. 💫🇮🇹

📍✨ Research, persistence, and a little Positano magic!

Alessandro recently traveled to the breathtaking town of Positano for an exciting research project, and what a journey it turned out to be! After weeks of trying (and failing) to reach the local archivist, he decided to go in person. And it paid off.

By chance, he met the priest of the church directly, made a fantastic impression, and was welcomed into the archives with open arms. Alessandro spent hours exploring centuries-old records, piecing together genealogy, all while surrounded by the history and beauty of one of Italy’s most iconic coastal towns.

This trip is just another reminder that sometimes the best discoveries happen when you go the extra mile (and a few hundred steps up the Amalfi Coast 😄).

🇮🇹🎉 Exciting News from the Bella Italia Team! 🎉🇮🇹

This past 4th of July, while the U.S. celebrated Independence Day, our very own Project Coordinator, Jeanette, had a celebration of her own, she officially became an Italian citizen! 🥂✨

Jeanette gained citizenship through marriage, after preparing all her documents, passing her Italian language exam, and patiently waiting for the final decision. And now... she’s officially Italian! Auguri, Jeanette! 🇮🇹❤️
