➡️ Ares – 1 Week Post-Operative Update
One week has passed since Ares, our 4-year-old German Shepherd affected by recurrent L7–S1 spinal nerve impingement and chronic left hind limb pain, underwent revision surgery performed by Prof. Dr. Franck Forterre. Below are the findings from his early post-operative follow-up.

➡️ Clinical control after 1 week:
- Initial improvement in left hind limb comfort
- Mild gait alteration consistent with early post-operative muscle stiffness
- No signs of acute post-surgical pain on clinical examination

Post-Op CT shows immediate post LS foraminotomy revision surgery & subsequent significantly improved left LS intervertebral foraminal narrowing, no evidence of complication.

Overall, Ares shows a very encouraging early post-operative course, consistent with normal healing at this stage. Continued recovery and functional improvement are expected and further follow-up evaluations will be shared in the coming weeks.

Thank you to the Politecnico di Milano for inviting us to take part in yesterday’s lecture dedicated to the design of our spinal fixation system PEDRO SYSTEM (Overvet), developed for the veterinary sector.
Our CEO Davide Pizzamiglio and Engineer Lorenzo Mandelli also attended the session, contributing valuable technical and strategic insights.

Engaging with students who were so well-prepared, curious, and involved was truly inspiring: the classroom was full and enriched by relevant and in-depth questions, a clear sign of the strong potential within this field’s next generation.

This is Ares, a 4-year-old German Shepherd suffering from recurrent L7–S1 spinal nerve impingement with chronic left hind limb pain.

The case was managed with advanced imaging and surgery performed by Prof. Dr. Franck Forterre, following evidence of severe fibrotic changes and new bone formation at the previous foraminotomy site.

The surgical procedure included:
➡️ L7–S1 foraminotomy revision
➡️ Subtotal facetectomy
➡️ Spinal stabilization using our PEDRO System – Spinal Fixation and Distraction System

Post-operative results confirmed improved intervertebral foramen width, proper implant positioning, and significant reduction in pain with improved limb function.

A complex condition successfully addressed through precise surgical planning and advanced stabilization technology.

Special thanks to Prof. Dr. Franck Forterre for the outstanding surgical intervention and collaboration.

We will soon share follow-up imaging to monitor healing and long-term outcome.

Clinical Case – European Cat Hit by Car (HBC)

A young female European cat was hit by a car and suffered severe orthopaedic/neurological trauma: multiple complete traumatic fractures of the left sacral and coxal bones, with ventral violation of the pelvic canal caused by the left p***c stump. Right sacroiliac diastasis.

This is a complex case that requires advanced surgical planning to restore functionality and ensure the animal’s well-being.

In such situations, innovative systems like the Pedro System play a crucial role: they allow effective stabilization of pelvic structures, reducing recovery time and improving prognosis.

The surgery was successfully performed by Dr. Omar Del Vecchio, whom we sincerely thank for his professionalism and dedication.

👉 Managing pelvic trauma in cats remains a challenge: with modern tools and techniques, we can offer new possibilities for healing, and quality of life for our patients.

The story of Pedro System in brief

At Overmed, innovation has always been the driving force behind every project. This is how Pedro System was born — our veterinary spinal fixation system, designed to improve techniques that had been used for decades.

Here are the main stages of the journey:

✅ The idea (2020) – bringing solutions already consolidated in human spinal surgery into the veterinary field.
✅ The clinical challenge – offering a safer, more modern alternative to traditional steel pins and PMMA.
✅ Development – 3 system sizes (for small, medium, and large dogs), designed with advanced software and 3D simulations.
✅ Production – synergy between engineering, additive manufacturing, and long-standing manufacturing expertise.
✅ Laboratory testing – mechanical and fatigue tests at the Polytechnic of Milan successfully passed.
✅ Ex-vivo testing – final validation of the procedure and surgical instruments, thanks to collaboration with physicians.

It was a great pleasure for us to take part in the Neurology: Advanced Neurosurgery course, organized by ESAVS on September 3, 2025, at the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Prof. Dr. Franck Forterre, Course Master of the event, for the kind invitation and excellent organization, and to Dr. Massimo Baroni, who presented the Pedro System, sharing with participants its innovative potential and clinical relevance.
