StomAid is an innovative device made of biocompatible soft consistency silicone, formed by a disc which remains on the outside of the abdominal wall, by a stem which is inserted into the stoma, and by an inflatable balloon of a particular shape situated on the end of the stem. The balloon inflates and deflates with low pressure air by means of a common disposable syringe. In the deflated configuration the balloon is inherent to the stem allowing it be inserted, thus providing continence, and to be removed thus allowing bowel content to exit at will from the stoma. Once the balloon has been inflated beyond the thickness of the intestinal wall, it stops stools and secures the device to the body, while gases are purified from the stink and expelled through an appropriate filtered duct internal to the stem.
