🍂 Autumn 🍂 is starting to well and truly set in. The leaves are slowly turning, the evenings are getting darker and I am definitely starting to dig the jumpers out.
Autumn is described as dry, rough, erratic, cool and windy. These qualities are shared with the Vata dosha so you may notice your skin is becoming dryer, and maybe even feeling a little scattered and cold.
Autumn is one of my favourite seasons, I love the colours, the snuggles inside when it’s horrible outside as well as cooking warming foods. There are so many great ways to keep yourself balanced through this season and I have listed a few below as well as my favourite little warming compote recipe 👇🏼
🍂 Wear warming colours like reds, pinks and oranges. (Though I brought this hideous pink jumper in protest to try get my other half to turn the heating on as he hates pink… trick hasn’t worked yet!).
🍂 Start introducing warming foods for example; Soups (Pumpkin, Squash, Carrot, Chicken), Cottage Pie topped with Sweet Potatoes, a warming breakfast like Porridge. Warm milk. Autumn is also a great time for us to be eating meat and eggs. Cooking with Ghee or Almond Oil. Spices like all spice, Nutmeg, Oregano, Paprika, Rosemary, Saffron and Turmeric.
🍂 Routine - Routine helps us feel less scattered and grounded. You could also practice a grounding yoga flow, focusing connecting the body with the earth.
🍂 Dry skin often makes a return in autumn. Give yourself some me time, keep the body moisturised and nourished. You can use a sesame oil at this time of year, gently warm it slightly and this will also encourage a warming effect.
My Crabapple and Pear Compote, though this week it was Crabapple and Cooking Apple Compote. This is a great recipe and I use it on my porridge or with granola in the morning or as a desert in the evening with a naughty little bit of cream or custard sprinkled with some nuts! NOM

Around 30 Crabapples
2 Pears or 1 large cooking apple
1 cup of Raisins
1 cup of water
1 tbsp Honey or sugar (only if needed)
1.5 tsp of Vanilla Essence
1 tsp Cinnamon
4 sprinkles of All Spice
1 small sprinkle of ground rock salt
1 tbsp Corn Starch
🍂Wash the fruit and cut the core away on the apples and pear. Keep the skin on.
🍂 Pop the fruit into a pan and add the water, spices, vanilla and raisins. Simmer on a medium to low heat for around 15-20 minutes
🍂 If it needs some sweetness I add the honey the honey or sugar now once it’s all cooking nicely.
🍂 Make your corn starch by adding it to a cup and a splash of cold water. Give it a good stir. This will help thicken the. Compote. If you want it more juicy just add some extra water.
Ready to serve! Also any leftovers are best served warm 🍂🍂🍂
