How can clinicians reliably distinguish stroke from other acute neurological emergencies?
In this interview, Dr. Laurent Garosi, Dipl. ECVN, FRCVS, breaks down a fundamental principle of veterinary neurology: using the temporal profile of a disease to guide differential diagnosis.

Dr. Garosi explains how the mnemonic VITAMIN D helps categorize disease processes and why vascular events—typically acute in onset and non-progressive—stand apart from other conditions such as inflammatory diseases, head trauma, or acute tumor decompensation.

By focusing on how quickly signs appear and evolve, clinicians can better identify cerebrovascular disease and distinguish it from other disorders that may initially mimic stroke but follow a different clinical trajectory.

🎓 Empowering veterinary ultrasound training in China
Last week, our Esaote China Vet Team supported the ESAVS Ultrasound Course in Guangzhou by providing 13 ultrasound systems to ensure a seamless and high-quality learning experience.

Hosted at the School of Zoology, South China Agricultural University, the course focused on Basic Diagnostic Ultrasound and gathered over 50 veterinarians from around the world.

We were honored to have Dr. Giliola Spattini (Italy) leading the training. Her expertise, combined with hands-on sessions on our veterinary ultrasound solutions, resulted in excellent feedback from both the instructor and participants.

A big thank you to everyone involved for contributing to a truly successful edition of the course.

🔍 Meet the Expert | Case 6 – 2025 Edition
In this new clinical case, we meet Miko, an 11-year-old male Poodle referred for a persistent chronic cough that showed no improvement despite ongoing management.

Earlier this year, he tested positive for canine heartworm infection and has since been undergoing a slow-kill treatment protocol. A grade IV/VI systolic heart murmur detected on auscultation further raised concerns about myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD).

🩺 In this episode, Dr. Paul A. Cardenio, DVM, MS, DPCCP, DPCVS-CA, Medical Director at PetLandia Veterinary Clinic, City of Malolos, Bulacan (Philippines), walks us through the diagnostic approach and clinical interpretation—highlighting how imaging helps clarify the interplay between MMVD and heartworm disease.

🫀 Early diagnosis can make all the difference.
In mitral valve disease, understanding when to intervene is essential to improving patient outcomes — and echocardiography plays a central role.

In this interview, Dr. Claudio Bussadori, DVM, MD, PhD, Dipl. ECVIM-CA (Cardiology), explains why mitral valve disease is a progressive, degenerative condition where timing matters. Detecting it early allows clinicians to start targeted treatment at the right moment, and that timing can only be defined through echocardiography.

While other imaging modalities, such as thoracic radiography, can offer supportive insights, echocardiography remains the most sensitive and specific tool to monitor disease progression and guide clinical decisions.

More frequent, earlier echocardiographic evaluations mean more precise follow-up, better staging, and ultimately, better patient care.

Ultrasound is a vital diagnostic tool for exotic and unconventional animals, providing safe, non-invasive insights that support early and accurate detection of subtle abnormalities.

From real-time organ visualization to identifying small masses, effusions, or tissue changes, it helps veterinarians uncover what might otherwise go unnoticed.

With our optimized imaging tools, examinations are faster, stress is minimized for delicate patients, and clinicians can make confident, informed decisions.

🏥🐾 At Atlantia Veterinary Hospital, diagnostic innovation plays a central role in delivering high-quality care — and MRI has become an essential part of that evolution.

In our latest interview, the Atlantia team shares their experience integrating the O-scan Vet into their daily workflow: why they chose a compact MRI solution, how it supports neurological case management, and the impact it has had on both efficiency and decision-making.

A special thank you to Dr. Hélène Kolb, Dr. Guillaume Dutil, and Dr. François Lafuma for sharing their experience and valuable perspectives.

Swipe through the carousel to discover their insights and learn how a tailored MRI solution can elevate diagnostic confidence in a busy veterinary environment.

Want to dive deeper? Join our webinar. “O-scan Vet in action: neurological workflow and case insights” with Dr. Guillaume Dutil, DVM, Dipl. ECVN, from Atlantia Vet Clinic (France). Tuesday, December 16, 2025 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM CET

🧠 What clinical signs make MRI essential in a traumatized patient? In our latest interview, Dr. Cristian Falzone, DVM, Dipl. ECVN, shares an important perspective on the role of MRI in neurological trauma.

For years, MRI was often overlooked due to longer acquisition times compared to radiographs or CT. Today, thanks to advanced systems, high-quality images can be obtained in just a few minutes, transforming clinical decision-making.

MRI allows clinicians to evaluate the brain and spinal cord directly, helping to:
🔹determine the severity of neural damage
🔹guide therapeutic planning
🔹support prognosis.

In trauma cases, MRI empowers veterinarians with deeper diagnostic clarity, helping them make confident, informed choices for their patients.

Ultrasound examination of the chicken coelom
📅 November 20th, 2025 | ⏰ 4:30 – 6:00 PM CET

Ultrasound is a powerful diagnostic tool that goes far beyond traditional radiography when it comes to evaluating coelomic diseases in chickens. In this session, Dr. Brenna Fitzgerald, DVM, DABVP (avian practice) from the Colorado Exotic Animal Hospital (Denver, USA) will guide us through the practical application of ultrasound in avian medicine — from identifying key coelomic organs to distinguishing physiological from pathological findings.

This webinar is designed to help veterinarians and avian practitioners strengthen their approach to coelomic assessment and elevate diagnostic confidence in daily practice.
