🧠 Cerebrovascular disorders are gaining increasing attention in small animal neurology, and MRI plays a pivotal role in their recognition and interpretation.

The second MRI webinar of the 2026 Esaote Vet series will focus on "Cerebral Microbleeds: MR Imaging and Clinical Cases", exploring characteristic MRI patterns and their clinical relevance. An emerging and often under-recognised condition, cerebral microbleeds require accurate image interpretation and strong clinical correlation to support informed decision-making.

The session will be led by Federica Poli, DVM, Dipl. ECVN, board-certified veterinary neurologist with extensive expertise in advanced neuroimaging, cerebrovascular disorders and clinical neurology in small animals.

👨‍⚕️ In daily clinical practice, vascular ultrasound reveals more than many expect.
In this interview, Dr. Sergio Fanfoni, DVM, explains that thrombosis is by far the most common vascular pathology diagnosed in dogs, affecting the venous, arterial and even pulmonary circulation.

Less frequent, but equally significant, are congenital and acquired shunts, neoplastic vascular invasions, and metabolic-related conditions such as atheromatous plaques, which are being identified with increasing frequency thanks to improved imaging capabilities.

What often surprises colleagues during hands-on sessions is how much information can be obtained from peripheral vascular ultrasonography. With careful probe positioning and proper scanning technique, this “less explored” area becomes a powerful diagnostic source, transforming initial uncertainty into confidence and enthusiasm for a field that is still underestimated in everyday practice.

🎥 Watch the video to discover Dr. Fanfoni’s insights on the clinical value of vascular ultrasound.

🔍 Meet the Expert | Case 2 – 2026 Edition
A challenging internal medicine case highlights the crucial role of diagnostic imaging in feline patients: feline pancreatitis leading to extrahepatic biliary obstruction and jaundice.

Nazca, an 8-year-old neutered male Common European cat, presented with dejection, anorexia, vomiting and icterus. Clinical examination revealed dehydration, low body condition score and abdominal pain. Blood tests showed increased ALP and ALT, leukocytosis and neutrophilia, pointing to a complex hepatobiliary disorder requiring further diagnostic investigation.

🩺 In this episode, Dr. Hélène Kolb, Associate Veterinarian and Medical Director of the Atlantia Veterinary Hospital, member of the AFVAC Imaging Study Group (GEIM) and the SNCHV, discusses how advanced imaging supports the identification of extrahepatic biliary obstruction secondary to pancreatitis, guiding diagnostic interpretation and clinical management in a delicate feline patient.

How does MRI image quality affect the accurate interpretation of a distal lesion in the horse?

In our latest interview, Dr. Kurt Selberg, MS, DVM, DACVR, explores why image quality plays such a crucial role in diagnosing the causes of lameness in horses.
High-quality MRI is essential for supporting diagnostic confidence, enabling clinicians to identify lesions more precisely, guide targeted treatment, and improve prognosis.

When lesions are poorly defined, the risk of misinterpretation increases, potentially leading to incorrect treatment and prolonged lameness.
For equine patients, accurate diagnosis is the first step toward effective care, and ultimately, a safe return to athletic activity.

🌍 From Europe to the UAE: navigating new challenges in veterinary care
Dr. Dieter Malleczek, Veterinary Surgeon at Blue Oasis Veterinary Clinic in Dubai (UAE), shares his journey from Vienna and the challenges of establishing a veterinary practice in a rapidly evolving market.

Moving from a structured European environment to a developing veterinary landscape in Dubai meant adapting to a system that was initially less regulated and required building processes from the ground up.

Over the years, as regulations and standards have tightened, practicing veterinary medicine has become more structured and demanding, pushing professionals to continuously adapt and innovate.

🎥 Watch the full video to see how Dr. Dieter turned these challenges into opportunities for advancing small animal care and diagnostic imaging in the UAE.

🔎 Early detection of mitral valve disease in small animals: what can be done?
Dr. Viviana Forti, DVM, highlights that early evaluation is key to improving outcomes in mitral valve disease.

Pre-echocardiographic assessments and basic auscultation during routine veterinary visits can help identify at-risk patients before the disease progresses.

She also emphasizes the value of structured screening programs, particularly for breeders, which can significantly reduce the prevalence of this condition.

Studies from Northern Europe already show the positive impact of early detection, and similar approaches can benefit clinical practice in other regions.

🤖 AI and remote reporting: supporting, not replacing, veterinary radiologists
In our latest interview, Dr. Nele Ondreka Eley, DVM, Dipl. ECVDI, shares her vision for the future of veterinary imaging, highlighting the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and remote reporting systems.

Far from replacing radiologists, AI is becoming a powerful support tool. It can help optimize MRI sequences to shorten scan times while preserving image quality, assist in interpreting images and detecting lesions more accurately, and already plays a significant role in speeding up reporting, making workflows more efficient without replacing the expertise of the clinician.

🔎 How are patients, symptoms, and diagnostic approaches evolving in veterinary neurology?
Dr. Laurent Garosi, Dipl. ECVN, FRCVS, highlights a clear shift over the past two decades.

While Dachshunds once dominated neurology clinics, today French Bulldogs are the most common patients, presenting with conditions like vertebral malformations, constrictive myelopathy, syringomyelia, and inflammatory brain diseases.

Alongside changing patient profiles, owner expectations have also evolved. Surgical interventions for conditions previously managed conservatively are now increasingly possible, thanks to advances like 3D printing and precision drill guides.

Multimodality imaging and modern surgical tools are revolutionizing the diagnosis and treatment of these complex cases.
