Your mind has a filter through which all information passes. This filter is shaped by your education and life experiences, and it informs your opinions, emotions, and decisions. And over time, one of two polarities tends to become more dominant: positive or negative.

The negative filter finds faults and flaws in every person and situation. And the practice of negative filtering makes you increasingly more insecure, critical, cynical, skeptical, pessimistic, and unhappy. That was the pattern I was stuck in before cancer.

But cancer taught me that I was in control of my filter and that I could swap it out in an instant. In any situation I could choose to look for the positive, the bright side and the silver lining instead of focusing on the negative. And you can too!

A positive filter is full of faith, open to new ideas, hopeful, optimistic, resourceful, nonjudgmental, loving, and forgiving, and it chooses to believe the best about people.

⭐️ Today’s Challenge ⭐️ When you catch yourself having negative thoughts, visualize turning a dial in your head to switch your filter from negative to positive with a click. And then use your positive filter to reassess the situation. Eventually, the positive filter will become your default.
