When we don't breathe with proper diaphragmatic technique, whether due to a restriction, stress, etc., we over-use our secondary respiratory muscles in the neck and shoulders. One muscle that gets caught up in that pattern is the omohyoid. When overworked or restricted, the omohyoid can create quite a lot of tightness and spasm in the neck, especially affecting side-to-side movement.
