🌬️ Strong Winds Warning – Up to 60mph Forecast 🌬️
The Jersey Met Office is forecasting very strong winds, gusting up to 60mph, from Wednesday evening into Thursday. Please take extra care and prepare in advance.
Potential risks include:
• Power cuts ⚡
• Travel disruption ✈️⛴️
• Flying debris and fallen trees 🌳
• Damage to property 🏠
Safety advice from the Government of Jersey:
✅ Secure loose items such as garden furniture, trampolines, bins, and ladders.
✅ Keep doors and windows fastened securely.
✅ Park vehicles in a garage if possible, or away from trees, walls, and fences.
✅ Be prepared for possible power cuts – keep torches, batteries, and phones charged.
✅ Stay indoors as much as possible during the storm.
✅ Do not attempt repairs outside while the winds are ongoing.
🚗 Road travel advice for motorists:
• Drive with extra care, especially on open stretches of road exposed to crosswinds.
• Keep both hands firmly on the wheel and reduce your speed.
• Allow extra stopping distance between you and the vehicle in front.
• Be cautious when overtaking high-sided vehicles, caravans, or buses – turbulence can push your car off course.
• Watch for fallen branches, debris, or partially fallen trees on the road.
🚴 Advice for cyclists and motorcyclists:
• Avoid riding if possible during the peak of the winds – gusts can easily blow you off course.
• If you must travel, wear high-visibility clothing and keep well clear of large vehicles.
• Be prepared for sudden gusts, especially when passing gaps in hedges, side roads, or exposed areas.
• Consider postponing your journey until conditions improve.
📲 Reporting hazards:
If you come across non-life-threatening hazards such as blocked roads, fallen branches, or debris after the storm, you can report them quickly and easily through the Love Jersey website or app. This helps the right teams respond faster and keeps the island safe for everyone.
🚨 Emergencies:
If there is an immediate risk to life or safety, always call the police on 999 straight away.
After the storm, please:
• Stay clear of damaged buildings, trees, and downed power lines.
• Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
Stay safe, stay prepared, and follow official updates from Jersey Met and Government of Jersey Severe Weather Advice.
