✨ A little ask for a very special family ✨

I’m reaching out to this amazing community to see if anyone might be able to help a lovely family I’m working with 💛

Margo and her family are travelling over from Guernsey for a therapy intensive following her incredibly ambitious stem cell treatment – she’s an absolute superstar and working so hard 💪✨

They are looking for somewhere to stay for around a week, and I wondered if anyone might have:
🏡 A spare property / annex
🛏 A room or short-term let
📍 Or any recommendations locally

It would make such a difference to them to have somewhere comfortable and convenient while Margo focuses on her therapy.

If you can help in any way, or know someone who might, please comment or message me directly 🙏

And if you’d like to follow Margo’s journey (which is truly inspiring), please do check out her page 💫

Thank you so much – this kind of support really does change things for families like theirs 💛

Hi everyone! We’re heading to Jersey in mid-May for my daughter Margo’s intensive physio following her stem cell treatment. We’re traveling as a group: myself, Margo, her sisters, and my mum (our amazing babysitter!).

Does anyone have recommendations for budget-friendly self-catering? We really need a kitchen for blending Margo’s feeds.
Ideally, we’re looking for somewhere with a separate bedroom for her sisters, as they still wake up at night and we need Margo to get as much rest as possible for her therapy. We’ve looked online but everything is so pricey—we’d love to save our funds for her actual treatments. Any tips would be hugely appreciated!

Hours after your daughter is born, a doctor tells you her eyes are much smaller than they should be.

You're still in the hospital. You've barely had time to process becoming a parent.

Now there are specialists coming and going, trying to understand what this means for your newborn.

That night, while your daughter sleeps beside you, you're on your phone searching for answers.

Small eyes…

What does that mean? What happens next?

This was the case for Amelia's parents three weeks before they were told they'd need to travel to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Amelia was barely three weeks old. Her mum had only just given birth.

The hospital would cover travel costs for one parent, but travelling alone with a newborn that soon wasn't realistic.

The costs started adding up before they'd even left Jersey.

Then friends told them about Family First.

That's when they met Jess, who reassured them about managing future trips and really listened to them.

Since then, Family First has been able to support many of Amelia's off-island hospital appointments.

This means a second adult can travel with them and many of their other expenses are assisted with.

Amelia is now three years old. She is joyful, determined and full of personality, she continues to surprise us every day.

Her family didn't have to face those early trips alone, and that's what we do for Jersey families when medical care means leaving the island.

Please share this with someone who might need the support we offer.

You're standing in your kitchen at 2pm on a Tuesday, on the phone with the Jersey Travel Office.

Your daughter needs to be seen at Southampton Hospital next week.

The voice on the other end is asking for appointment details, your daughter's NHS number and when you need to fly.

There's a pile of laundry on the chair you haven't folded yet because the morning has been so hectic trying to get everything sorted.

You're writing dates and times on the back of an envelope because you can't find the notebook you started for this.

"We can arrange flights for Wednesday evening, the appointment is Thursday at 9:30am."

Next week.

You're already calculating who can watch your other child, whether your partner can get the time off work, what you need to pack.

The voice on the phone is confirming the booking, and you say yes because this is what needs to happen.

This is when off-island medical care becomes a list of things that need organising by next week.

For Jersey families, this moment happens more often than people realise.

We exist to help with exactly this. The practical support that makes these trips possible when time is short and everything needs coordinating at once.

So If your child needs off-island medical care, please reach out to us. We're here to support you.

This report was published yesterday, I know a lot of parents and some young people who were involved in the evidence gathering for this review; please read this thorough report - the challenge now is in agreeing priorities and securing commitment to real change.
