🌸World Menopause Day 2025 — You Are Not Alone

Today, on World Menopause Day (18 October), I want to reach out to anyone navigating perimenopause or menopause and not feeling like yourself.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, low, anxious, suffering with sleep problems, fatigue, brain fog and poor memory. Or struggling with night sweats or hot flashes, dizzy spells, or dealing with irregular or heavy periods — I see you and I have been there myself. You are not alone, and it’s important to seek support.

I’ve been there too. I remember feeling isolated and unsure where to turn. That’s why this summer I undertook additional training in hormone balancing and I’m currently creating a supportive course for women — blending my experience as a yoga teacher and massage therapist, and my training as a health coach, gut health and hormone balancing specialist with the

World Mental Health Day 💚

Today, on World Mental Health Day, I’m reflecting on something that matters to all of us: our mental health is health. At Prana Health & Wellbeing, I know that wellbeing isn’t just the absence of illness—it’s the daily practice of tending to our minds with the same care we give our bodies.

💚💚💚A personal note from me:

There have been days when the noise inside my head felt louder than the world around me. On those days, I’ve learned that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Taking a moment to breathe, to step back, and to ask “What do I need right now?”. If you’re reading this and feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. You deserve support, kindness, and the right path and care that meets you where you are.

💚💚💚Why self-care and emotional health matter

Emotional health underpins every aspect of our lives: work, relationships, sleep, energy, and resilience.

Small, consistent practices can prevent burnout and strengthen our capacity to cope with stress.
Caring for ourselves enables us to show up more compassionately for others.

💚💚💚How to look after yourself (practical tips)

🙂Check-in with yourself: “How am I feeling today, really?”

🥰Do one kind thing for yourself today (even a tiny act counts).

🧘‍♀️ Pause and breathe: Try a simple 4-4-4box breathing exercise (inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4) for a minute or two when stress spikes.

🚶‍♀️ Move your body: A 20-minute walk, gentle stretch, or short home workout can boost mood-boosting endorphins.

😴Prioritise sleep: Create a calming pre-sleep routine and aim for regular sleep times.

🥦Nutritious nourishment: Hydrate, eat regular meals, and include mood-supporting foods (e.g., leafy greens, lean proteins, omega-3s).

📖 Limit screen time: Designate tech-free windows to unwind and be present. Especially limited screen time before bed.

😊Mindful moments: 2–5 minutes of journaling, grounding, or gratitude can shift perspective.

♥️Seek connection: Talk to someone you trust. You don’t have to carry burdens alone.

🥺Professional support: If stress or mood feels unmanageable, reach out to a mental health professional.

💚💚💚How to help look others

😔If you’re worried about a friend, loved one or colleague, start with a simple: “are you ok? I’m here if you want to talk.”

👂 Listen actively: give your full attention, reflect what you hear, and avoid rushing to solutions.

🫶🏼Validate feelings: “That sounds really hard,” “I’m glad you shared that,” even if you don’t have all the answers.

🌳 Offer practical support: a walk, a coffee, a ride, or help with a task.

📱 Check in regularly: a quick message or call can make a big difference.

🌅Respect boundaries: allow space if someone needs it, and ask how you can best support them.

💜Encourage professional help when needed: normalise seeking help as a strength, not a weakness.

Last week, I received a phone call out of the blue from a lovely client, that left me feeling very emotional and deeply grateful.

A few weeks ago, after completing the MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection) training for body therapists, I noticed an unusual mark on her back during her massage treatment with me. So, I gently encouraged her to get it checked. She took my advice, saw her doctor, and was quickly referred to a specialist. It’s now been confirmed as skin cancer.

Thankfully, she is undergoing treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. But her specialist said that if she had waited and fast forward to two years’ time, and the outcome would have been very different. As it had been there for some time and had not been picked by anyone else, and would sadly be a very different story!
When she called to tell me, I found myself completely overcome—I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes. I’m so grateful she reached out, and even more grateful that I could play a small part in her early diagnosis and healing. To know that I may have helped save a life is the most humbling and powerful reminder of why I do what I do.

This is why I left the corporate world behind. This is my calling—helping and healing others, body and soul. It’s moments like this that reinforce my passion and purpose every single day.

🌞 SKIN CANCER AWARENESS & EARLY DETECTION: A PERSONAL MISSION AT PRANA HEALTH & WELLBEING 🌞

As many of you know, skin health is something incredibly close to my heart. Last year, I was diagnosed with stage 2 skin cancer on my cheek, after noticing a small patch of rough skin that just wouldn’t heal. Thanks to early detection and prompt treatment, I am now fully recovered—but that experience changed my perspective forever.

That’s why I’m so proud to share that I’ve completed the MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection) course run by the incredible team at SKCIN Skin Cancer Charity. This training is specifically designed for body workers like myself—massage therapists, beauty professionals, and anyone who regularly sees clients’ skin up close. We are in a unique position to spot early signs of skin changes that might otherwise go unnoticed.

I first heard about the MASCED course through Breakfast Show. Chris’s own life was changed when his massage therapist spotted an abnormal mole on his leg, leading to his successful melanoma removal. Stories like his—and my own—remind me daily how vital early detection can be.

Why does this matter so much in Jersey? The statistics are sobering:

- The rate of malignant melanoma here in Jersey is 58 per 100,000—much higher than England (28 per 100,000) and Guernsey (42 per 100,000).
- Non-melanoma skin cancer rates are also significantly higher than the UK average.
- Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in those under 40.

With so many of us spending time outdoors and enjoying island life, being vigilant is more important than ever.

My commitment goes beyond massage and relaxation—I want to help you look after your whole wellbeing, including your skin health. If you ever notice a patch, mole, or change on your skin that concerns you, please don’t ignore it. And if I ever notice something unusual during a treatment, I promise to let you know with care and confidentiality.
