On the 27th of August at 7:30pm, we are thrilled to host Dr Aoife McTiernan and Dr Darren Bowring for an insightful discussion on their recent paper, “The Evolution of Values in the Science of Behaviour Analysis: A Discussion Paper,” published in the International Journal of Positive Behavioural Support.

This pivotal paper serves as a bold call to action for our behaviour analytic communities, urging us to recognise that a ‘valueless’ science is directionless and vulnerable to hidden agendas. Dr McTiernan and Dr Bowring challenge us to reconnect with the emancipatory values that underpinned the inception of behaviour science.

Key topics include:
- Criticisms from neurodiversity advocates about ABA practices
- The evolution and impact of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
- The importance of social validity and human rights informed practices
- Integrating humanist values into ABA practice and training
- System-wide interventions that enhance quality of life

This event is an unmissable opportunity for professionals and enthusiasts in the field to explore the future trajectory of behaviour analysis, guided by compassionate care, cultural humility, and proactive, function-based interventions.

Darren is delighted to be opening the 2022 international PBS conference in Bristol

Early bird tickets for our PBS conference are available until the 27th May.

The theme for this year’s conference is Co-Production: Giving the power back and attendees have the option to attend either in-person or online.

We believe that PBS can only be truly person-centred if professionals, supported people, and their families, share the power to plan and deliver support together. We believe that, only then, will this support meet people’s wants and needs, leading to better outcomes for everyone.

This year’s programme features fantastic workshops and speakers, including Professor Peter McGill, Dr Rachel Freeman, Sunderland People First Co-operative CIC, Disability Sheffield and Professor Edwin Jones, among others.

We’re thrilled to have Dr Darren Bowring, Head of Children’s Health and Wellbeing for the Government of Jersey, and Emma Saysell, parent-carer, opening the conference.

Come along to Bristol with us in June to develop your skills and knowledge of co-production in PBS and meet others who can demonstrate how the process works, with a diverse range of people, families and services.

Our Story

ABA Behaviour Solutions was founded in 2011 by Dr Darren Bowring. The ABA in our name stands for Applied Behaviour Analysis. This is the science behind our work as behaviour analysts - ABA is an evidence based, highly-researched and effective approach to reduce behaviours of concern, develop pro-social behaviours and a teach useful skills.

Our ethos is one of Positive Behavioural Support. We seek to understand the function or purpose behind behaviours of concern. We alter deficient environments; change our responses; promote quality of life and wellbeing; and support parents and carers in an empathetic, collaborative manner avoiding restrictive practices.

Since 2011 we have worked with many children, young people, families, schools, care providers, and large private and charitable organisations with excellent feedback and results making real differences to people lives. Our early intervention ABA programmes have had dramatic impacts on the lives of the children and families we have worked with.

Our staff are highly qualified, experienced and work in a person-centred, supportive way. We only work with a small number of families and organisations at any time to ensure we offer quality input that makes a real difference to people’s lives. We are determined that our input is successful and effective and we have an excellent track record.
