KUNDALINI YOGA

Explore the principles and techniques used in Kundalini Yoga with the aim to improve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Kundalini is a unique style of yoga that incorporates…

• Kriyas ( sets of yogic exercises to bring about specific outcomes)
• Asanas (Postures)
• Mudras (hand gestures)
• Bandhas (internal body locks)
• Mantras (sacred sound vibrations)
• Pranayama (breath control), and
• Meditation.

Kundalini Yoga helps to:

• Regulate the body through the breath
• Clear out stagnancy & energy blockages
• Increase oxygenated blood supply to the organs and extremities
• Encourage clarity, flexibility and endurance
• Create a calm mind

YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga is a very passive and grounding style of yoga with the postures generally practiced from either sitting or lying down.

It is very gentle, soothing and meditative and is a perfect way to ground and integrate the energy that would have been raised through the Kundalini Yoga.

This workshop is suitable for everyone, including beginners.

We are very happy to have Prana, Neeraj and Simya of ‘The Mantra Fusion Band’ visiting us from bonny Scotland to offer an ‘East meets West Mantra Fusion kirtan Weekend Special’ and our very own ‘Breathman’ Joe Houze, who will be offering us an eclectic mix of various breathwork techniques to help balance and strengthen the nervous system.

Prana “ I first experienced kirtan in 1983 and have been participating ever since.
Currently I manage Krishna eco farm in Scotland, which has a temple, ashram and gardens.
I also run our Glasgow centre, ‘Om Sweet Om’, where we do regular kirtan events.
I love to engage people in kirtan as it really brings people together.
I also like to bring kirtan to other places. I’ve been lucky enough to be engaged in kirtan in Mexico, South Africa, Hungary and London.
I’m very grateful to be invited and I’m really looking forward to joining you in Jersey “

Simya and Neeraj are kirtan siblings and regularly offer kirtan with Prana in Scotland.
They have been learning classical kirtan for over 10 years.
Join them in Jersey to chant sublime kirtan and elevate ones consciousness.

Joe Houze: Joe is a yoga therapist and breath work instructor based in Jersey.
After years of anxiety and panic attacks, Joe started to learn yogic practices and simple breathing techniques which completely shift the presentation of the nervous system and therefore one's experience of life.
So profound were the breathing techniques for Joe, that he has spent the last few years learning as much as possible about them.
It is now his mission to share breath practices that are safe, grounded in science, and full of heart.

During the course of the weekend, Joe will be guiding a variety of different breath work practices:

* Friday night: *SOMA Breathwork Journey.
*Saturday afternoon: Breathing for calm.
* Sunday morning: Waking up gently with the breath.

The SOMA Breathwork Journey is done lying on the back (so bring cushions!). The Breathwork journey includes breathing to beats, gentle breath holds as well as humming. Joe will introduce many of the benefits of these breath practices on the night before we dive in. The practice itself is designed to leave you with a beautiful sense of balance. Present and alert, and also calm. Bright and vital, and also at ease.

Anahata Sanctuary
LAND REQUIRED TO LEASE OR BUY FOR ORGANIC GROWING PROJECT
Welcome to Anahata Sanctuary.
Some of you know me on the Island as a yoga teacher and/or complimentary health practitioner, however for those of you who have known me since my youth will know that organic growing in the spirit of self reliance was always my first and greatest passion.
It was and still is a great love of mine.
My first connection with organic growing was volunteering for Brian Adair at his 'Organic Farm', here in Jersey in the 1990's.
After leaving Jersey in 1999, I spent 5 years establishing and maintaining a community organic farm project in the UK.
I’m happy to say that that project continued to develop and is currently thriving.
Since that time I have assisted with other community based organic growing projects, in the UK and also abroad.
It has always been a desire of mine to establish a community based organic growing project here on my birth Island of Jersey, and since my return to the Island, (which was during covid lockdown, after a 21 year absence), I have been making preparations to implement this vision.
I am happy to say that everything is now in place for me to be able to focus the necessary energy that will be needed to establish such a project.
My first and foremost step is to find the right piece of land on the Island for this project.
I am looking to lease or buy a small piece of land.
If anyone has or knows someone who has land to lease or sell that would be suitable for this project, please contact me.
VISION FOR Anahata Sanctuary
The vision for Anahata Sanctuary is twofold:
FIRSTLY, on a personal level, it's for me to create a small side business for myself, growing and selling organic vegetables.
SECONDLY, in the spirit of community.
• To create a land based community project where we can grow organic fruit and vegetables together that will then be distributed freely.
• To give an opportunity for people to reconnect with nature, themselves and each other• To share with people organic growing practices.
• To support and encourage locals in establishing and maintaining their own organic growing projects on the Island. Whether they be large projects or smaller endeavours (like in a persons garden, allotment or on their balcony or window sill for example)
• To establish more bio diverse farming practices on the Island.
• To produce food of a higher standard for local consumption.
• To help Jersey become more self reliant and less dependant on foreign produce.
• To be a guardian for a small piece of Mother Nature.
• To create an open and loving space where all human beings (and animals) can co create together, in harmony, regardless of colour, class or beliefs, in the spirit of unconditional love .
Why Anahata Sanctuary?
Anahata is a Sanskrit word that represents the heart centre.
The vision for this project comes from the heart and the aim is to create a project that functions fully from the heart, for the benefit of people in general and Mother Nature.
Sanctuary has numerous meanings; a sacred place, a place of refuge and a place of preservation.
Some phrases that inspire me for this project :

✨ NALINI is a Kirtaneer/singer and a practitioner of bhakti yoga based in the UK.

She has travelled in various parts of Europe, US, Central America and India performing Kirtan and immerses herself in reciting traditional bhajans by bengali, hindi and sanskrit poets under the guidance of her spiritual teachers.

She has albums 'bhakti rasa' and 'vraj dham' produced in 2012 and 2017 respectively.

✨ JAYA GOPALA has been a bhakti-yoga and kirtan practitioner for 30 years.

7 of those years were spent living as a monk in Bhakti Yoga Temples.

Jaya’s main inspiration has been through the teachings, example and pioneering spirit of AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Based in Somerset, you will often find Jaya sharing the teachings of bhakti and kirtan in Bath, Glastonbury and surrounding areas.

Experience a condensed version of a morning 'bhakti yoga' temple practice, with mantra meditation, kirtan and discussion from yogic scripts.

6-7am 'Mantra Meditation' Learn, practice and experience the sacred art of mantra meditation.

7-7.30am 'Guru Puja' and Kirtan (Join Jaya as he sings ancient prayers in honour of the teachers that have gone before us).

7.30-8.30am Teachings of Bhagavad Gita with Nalini. (Sit back and relax as Nalini unravels the complex teachings of the ancient yogic classic text on self realisation, 'Bhagavad Gita', into easily to digest, bite sized chunks.

✨ KIRTAN WITH SPECIAL VISITING GUESTS, NALINI AND JAYA ✨

✨ NALINI is a Kirtaneer/singer and a practitioner of bhakti yoga based in the UK.

She has travelled in various parts of Europe, US, Central America and India performing Kirtan and immerses herself in reciting traditional bhajans by bengali, hindi and sanskrit poets under the guidance of her spiritual teachers.

She has albums 'bhakti rasa' and 'vraj dham' produced in 2012 and 2017 respectively.

✨ JAYA GOPALA has been a bhakti-yoga and kirtan practitioner for 30 years.
7 of those years were spent living as a monk in Bhakti Yoga Temples.
Jaya’s main inspiration has been through the teachings, example and pioneering spirit of AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Based in Somerset, you will often find Jaya sharing the teachings of bhakti and kirtan in Bath, Glastonbury and surrounding areas.

SIX WEEK COURSE

Based on the teachings of Bhagavad Gita ‘as it is', by A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Welcome to this six week yoga ‘philosophy of life’ course, based on the teachings of the ancient classical yogic text, Bhagavad Gita.

In this course we will delve into the ancient teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, and more directly the speaker of Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna himself.

Sri Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Gita about 5,000 years ago on the battlefield of Kurukshetra to His bewildered friend Arjuna just before the great warrior was about to fight in a fratricidal war.

Because of Arjuna’s compassionate nature he was overwhelmed with sorrow at the thought of having to fight his own kinsmen.

Dropping his bow, with tears flowing from his eyes Arjuna declared to Krishna (who was acting as his charioteer), ‘Krishna, I will not fight!’

It is at this point Krishna speaks (or more precisely, sings) Bhagavad Gita (The song of the Divine).

Arjuna was a fully self realised soul and was put into this bewildered position just so Sri Krishna could speak Bhagavad Gita to him for the benefit of the people in general in this modern age.

Arjuna is a representative of us. A bewildered people, taking ourselves and our future generations to an abyss of despair and destruction, unless we can turn things around.

Bhagavad Gita is here to assist us to do just that, ‘turn things around’.

Often cited as the ‘science of self realisation,’ Bhagavad Gita is here to act as a torch light in this world of darkness, or ignorance.

And what is that ignorance?

It is the ignorance of our true nature.
Sanatana dharma.
Our eternal constitutional position.

And that is where the teachings of Bhagavad Gita begins.

And that is where we also will begin in this course.

Over the six weeks we will do a systematic study of Bhagavad Gita, drawing on key verses and topics, such as:

The nature of the self.
Karma.
Reincarnation.
The 3 modes of material nature.
Differentiating between material and spiritual energy.
The cosmos and our place in it.
Overcoming material obstacles on the spiritual path.
Transcending the dualities of material existence.
Finding inner peace.

All these topics (and more) will be expanded on with great clarity.

This yoga ‘philosophy of life’ course is a course of application.

We will learn how to apply the teachings of Bhagavad Gita into our own lives so we can experience tangible results.

It is not just a course for philosophical speculation but for personal application.

Because the knowledge of Bhagavad Gita is transcendental knowledge, it is applicable and relevant for every human being, regardless of colour, class, race, creed etc, and every person can, and is meant to benefit from it.

As such, this knowledge, and this course is not just for the yogi but is for any person who would like to understand themselves and their place in this world better.
