On Saturday, June 21st, I took part in the Jersey — the annual 48.1-mile walking challenge that takes participants along the coastline of Jersey. I undertook it in loving memory of my teacher, Sharath Jois, who sadly passed away last year. That the event coincided with the International Day of Yoga made it even more meaningful.
Swapping the familiar comfort of my yoga mat for the trails of the Jersey coast was a deeply personal and somewhat unfamiliar journey. Since my teacher’s passing, I’ve turned to running alongside my daily yoga practice — grief finds expression in many ways. Much like on the mat, this walk called for inner strength, steady breath, and unwavering focus. It was a test of endurance, marked by moments of incredible highs and painful lows.
What made it truly special was the shared spirit of purpose among participants. Many, like me, walked in memory of loved ones; others for personal growth, healing, or in support of charities that uplift lives. Each person carried their own story, and the collective sense of meaning and determination was simply awe-inspiring.
With a heart full of gratitude, I want to thank everyone who supported me on this journey:
❣️ To my wonderful students — thank you for your heartfelt encouragement and support in the lead-up to the walk and on the day itself.
❣️ To my husband & our twins — your unwavering support, your patience during training, and your love mean the world to me.
❣️ To my friend Laura & her son Dylan who came to meet me half way!
❣️ To the volunteers and charity teams who manned the checkpoints — your presence, smiles, and support were invaluable.
❣️ To the locals who came out to cheer us on — thank you for your warmth and kindness. I witnessed so many beautiful moments along those 48.1 miles
❣️ To Justin — thank you for walking that final stretch with me!
❣️ And above all, thank you to my teacher Sharath Jois. I walked in your memory with love and gratitude for the teachings and the path of yoga you set me on all those years ago.
I’m deeply thankful to each and every one of you who supported me both on the day and in the run-up to this challenge. It was a journey I’ll never forget.
