Love Actually…
Last night I watched it for the first time in a decade; beautiful movie, a perfect trigger to pause, reflect and remind “at Christmas you tell the truth”... LOVE IS THE MOST POWERFUL FORCE. We know LOVE transcends ego and knows no bounds. We LOVE to GIVE LOVE. We know the more you give of it the more there seems to be of it (it grows). To Love is a superpower; Love heals, forgives and makes whole again… you can use this superpower on yourSelf too!!! Yet many skimp on true LOVE of themSelves. The BUDDHA said “You yourSelf, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your LOVE and affection.” Kahlil says “LOVE has no other desire but to fulfill itself” so doesn’t that mean all we have to do is give it free reign? BLESSED YOGIS ~ THANK YOU for all your Christmas wishes and THANK YOU ALL for all the LOVE we have felt and witnessed this year. All the people we KNOW and LOVE because they chose to walk through the purple doors. Our longer term practitioners hold LOVE space in our hearts but more have joined that space this year; it is ever expanding and there is plenty of room! FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS OUR WISH FOR YOU all: MAY YOUR CONNECTION TO WHAT IS DIVINE FOR YOU BE STRONG. Came across this old blog! It is funny and it is still true a decade later; many have got it all wrong about what is going on down here in St Helier. Darren and I and many like us around the Island don’t do this for the money, it is an outward expression of who we are. We don’t clock in and teach rote! We are heavily invested emotionally, energetically as well as financially. We are custodians of a space where your passion for your practice is deeply respected so ~ no matter how we are feeling we will find the energy to show up for you. I have another job now too that I didn’t have when I wrote the blog so some financial pressure has been lifted. Darren and I wish we had won the lottery last Friday but we look around at everything we have surrounded by the people we love and we nod and agree ~ we have enough. PATANJALI SAID (YOGA SUTRA 1:14): “THIS PRACTICE BECOMES FIRMLY ROOTED WHEN IT IS CULTIVATED SKILLFULLY AND CONTINUOUSLY FOR A LONG TIME.” Undertaking a challenge is one good way to cultivate a regular Yoga practice. The heart of undertaking a challenge is making a commitment; it also requires discipline, focus and sacrifice. All of which I see in abundance at the studio regularly anyway (challengers or otherwise).
ARISTOTLE SAID: “WE ARE WHAT WE REPEATEDLY DO. EXCELLENCE, THEN, IS NOT AN ACT, BUT A HABIT.” This quote may help get you through many self defeating ideas about what you can and cannot do; especially in relation to what you have learned/been taught in the first half of your life and what you have learned on your own through life experience. In that sense, it’s very empowering: you take up Yoga (at whatever age) and practice it regularly with the commitment and sacrifice it requires: you are a Yogi.

“Set Your Life on Fire ~ Seek Those Who Fan Your Flames.” Rumi
We’ll provide the heat. Be it fahrenheit or centigrade from where we’re standing the temperature will be just fine. All YOU have to do is show up. Again and again. For those 90 minutes let nothing negative survive in the heat. Just give your best effort, struggle if you must. All so you can be re-molded, born again in the beautiful temperature so that you can move deeper into your living life better outside the room.

Yes when you are new your first reaction to the heat might be ‘get me out of here!!!’ :). Or something like that. You’re alertness and aliveness heats up in the moment and this new experience seems to set your mind and emotions on fire. You see the flicker of a spark of transformation that has to be allowed to come to full flame. At the end of your first class you have the power to quench it. Or fan it by coming again. Yes there is that tension between that old worn familiar path and the fresh untrodden expanding road BUT the comforting warmth is inviting you to purify and transform.

INTENSE? Yes. Is this too hot for you to handle? You might want to pull back from the intensity of it all, move out of the heat as it gives you your first glimpses of a higher Self. It is like you are poised at the edge of a bonfire and you now have to make a decision whether to step away from it or step into the flames. Not a great analogy when in real life stepping into the flames means certain death! But in Yogic terms You do not die or melt. I refer to the certain death of old patterns, limiting beliefs, poor self-image, the superfluous, poor expression, the distractions, poor action, the death of that which no longer serves You. The REALISATION that the old ways have had their day with you and now they cannot handle the flames; the old ways must go but radiant you must stay in order for the fire to do its job to REVEAL THE REAL, the Truth.
