💥Take part in a variety of exercises or sports for best results! 💥
According to a recent Harvard study that looked at physical exercise types, variety and mortality, "long term engagement in multiple types of physical activity may help extend the lifespan".
Consistency showed health benefits across all types of exercise - so whether you mix things up weekly, monthly or seasonally, moving your body regularly is that crucial first step.
We all know that 'variety is the spice of life' - so if you're feeling bored with your weekly gym routine, here are our top tips:
* Start with the foundations: fresh air and sunshine! Take at least a short 15-30 minute walk every day to boost your vitamin D levels and regulate your internal body clock.
* Strength training 2x per week consistently. Whether at a gym, in a class or at home, use body weight and free weight exercises to support muscle and joint health.
* Add a yoga class every month (or more). Stretch your body in different ways, learn to relax and breathe deeper, and become more mindful during movement.
* Try a fun exercise class every month. Try Indoor Cycling classes, aerobics, step, Clubbercise, circuit training and so much more. Jersey has a brilliant range of classes available, so grab a friend and try something new! (Non-members are welcome at Healthhaus)
* Try a new sport! If you played netball, tennis, badminton, football, cricket or hockey at school, why not take it up again? There are so many clubs in Jersey, as well as corporate leagues, that are very welcoming to new members. What have you always wanted to try?
* Do a fun activity with friends at the weekend. Coasteering, aerial yoga, aqua-pole, horse riding - you name it, Jersey has it!
* Take part in a charity walk, event or cycle ride. Our island hosts so many fantastic events each year - like the famous Island Walk - but there are also many shorter events too. Get a group together and enjoy a nice pub lunch after!
