Ever wondered why some people are so motivated to exercise when you find it so difficult? Perhaps you don't actually even *like* exercise that much - so it feels like just another chore on a never-ending To-Do list!

Maybe you had a bad experience in school PE lessons and have carried the heavy feeling that you're 'just not good at sport' for decades. (You're not alone)

Or perhaps you keep trying to run or go to the gym but keep getting injuries and uncomfortable niggles that halt your progress after a couple of weeks.

Or maybe your body has changed during peri-menopause or post-menopause and you feel heavy, hot and uncomfortable and exercise just seems like too much effort, or you are so self-conscious that you feel that joining a gym or group activity just isn't for you.

Whatever your reasons, this workshop will help you to reflect on your own patterns and behaviours and how you can move forward with a new energy and clarity.

GUEST SPEAKERS: This complimentary event for Healthhaus members will be hosted by Debbie Thompson, a Sports & Exercise Psychologist who supports athletes, coaches and parents with various aspects of emotional wellbeing and resilience, goal setting and reaching potential.

We also have Sam Morris, one of our Personal Trainers and Milon Coaches who has a wealth of knowledge and experience of coaching athletes, regular exercisers and people with physical limitations, injuries and medical conditions.

Meet Magda: Movement Studio Co-ordinator, Equipment & Mat Pilates Instructor, Personal Trainer and Milon Coach.

Magda is passionate about helping people of all ages and abilities to boost their health and fitness and improve strength and flexibility through a range of different training approaches.

Magda has been in the fitness industry for over 20 years and is qualified in a wide range of disciplines from Equipment Pilates to GP Referral, Weight management for obesity and diabetes, lifestyle strategy for back pain and so much more. Outside of work, Magda loves travelling and cycling with her husband, and loves to cook healthy meals.

Learn Mindfulness techniques to take control of your personal levels of stress, and improve feelings of calm and mental clarity. 🧘‍♂️

Two dates available: Wednesday 18 March and Wednesday 25 March, both from 6:45pm - 7:45pm. These workshops are free for Healthhaus members.

💥Take part in a variety of exercises or sports for best results! 💥

According to a recent Harvard study that looked at physical exercise types, variety and mortality, "long term engagement in multiple types of physical activity may help extend the lifespan".

Consistency showed health benefits across all types of exercise - so whether you mix things up weekly, monthly or seasonally, moving your body regularly is that crucial first step.

We all know that 'variety is the spice of life' - so if you're feeling bored with your weekly gym routine, here are our top tips:

* Start with the foundations: fresh air and sunshine! Take at least a short 15-30 minute walk every day to boost your vitamin D levels and regulate your internal body clock.

* Strength training 2x per week consistently. Whether at a gym, in a class or at home, use body weight and free weight exercises to support muscle and joint health.

* Add a yoga class every month (or more). Stretch your body in different ways, learn to relax and breathe deeper, and become more mindful during movement.

* Try a fun exercise class every month. Try Indoor Cycling classes, aerobics, step, Clubbercise, circuit training and so much more. Jersey has a brilliant range of classes available, so grab a friend and try something new! (Non-members are welcome at Healthhaus)

* Try a new sport! If you played netball, tennis, badminton, football, cricket or hockey at school, why not take it up again? There are so many clubs in Jersey, as well as corporate leagues, that are very welcoming to new members. What have you always wanted to try?

* Do a fun activity with friends at the weekend. Coasteering, aerial yoga, aqua-pole, horse riding - you name it, Jersey has it!

* Take part in a charity walk, event or cycle ride. Our island hosts so many fantastic events each year - like the famous Island Walk - but there are also many shorter events too. Get a group together and enjoy a nice pub lunch after!

We are very proud of our Healthhaus team member Alex who completed his 250th parkrun this Saturday!

Alex ran the 5km in an incredible 19 minutes and 43 seconds and came 7th.

Of his 250 parkruns, 235 have been in Jersey and 15 off island. Alex is also a dedicated member of the Jersey parkrun volunteer team.

Remember those New Year resolutions you set two months ago?

🌸 Well, as today is the start of meteorological spring, it's the perfect time to reflect on them, decide if they're still relevant and if so, to use the energy of the new season to drive momentum.

As the days are getting longer, the temperature is getting warmer and the trees are starting to bloom, it's the perfect moment to start adding more outdoor activity to your week.

Here are our top tips for using nature's natural healing properties to support your overall health and wellbeing:

🌸 Increase your daily steps by swapping short car journeys for walking or cycling.
🌸 Start taking a short 30 minute walk from home in the evening (ideally after dinner).
🌸 Travel by bus? Get off a stop or two earlier and get your body moving before and after work. (Your mind will thank you!)
🌸 Take a tea break in the sunshine - drink your cup of tea or coffee outside in a sunny spot to boost daily sunlight exposure.
🌸 Visit the sea at least once a week - this 'blue mind' therapy helps to reduce stress, improve sleep and enhance mood.
🌸 Walk amongst trees - not only is it a beautiful time of year to marvel at the variety of colourful blossoms, but 'forest bathing' has been shown to boost immunity, lower blood pressure and decrease stress.
🌸 Spend time in nature without any distractions for optimal mindfulness benefits.
🌸 Take meetings out of the boardroom or cafe and into the sunshine.
🌸 Want to start a new sport or active hobby? Now is a great time to get in touch with local sports clubs or communities and find out how to get involved.
🌸 Try volunteering - there are many outdoor events, like parkrun and triathlons - that always need people for logistical support.

Remember - being active is about so much more than your gym workouts!

Spring into action this season with our twice-weekly group Equipment Pilates classes! 🌸

These classes take place every Tuesday at 6:30pm and Friday at 10:30am and are open to members and non-members.

Classes are 50 minutes and take up to 5 people only to ensure proper movement patterns.

Prices: Members £35 per class / Non-members £39 per class
Discounts available for block bookings.

*Please note that you will need to book a consultation and at least one 1:1 Pilates session before taking part in these classes for the first time as a beginner.*

Please join us in welcoming Ben Wolstenhome to the Healthhaus Team as a Milon Coach. 🎉

Ben says: "Returning to Healthhaus feels very special for me, as this is where my fitness journey really began.

When I first joined, I was struggling with my weight, confidence, and my relationship with food. Discovering Milon training at Healthhaus played a huge role in helping me make lasting changes, both physically and mentally.

What started as a way to improve my health gradually grew into something much bigger. Through training, I gained confidence, structure, and discipline, which led me into white-collar boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and MMA.

Over time, fitness became more than a hobby, it became something I wanted to share with others.

I’m now really pleased to be returning to Healthhaus as a part-time MILON Coach.

My background is varied, but what I bring to the gym is lived experience. I understand what it’s like to feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to begin.

My aim is to make training feel approachable and straightforward, and to help people build confidence in themselves and the process. I’m always happy to talk openly about my own journey and the challenges I’ve faced, so please don’t hesitate to ask questions or have a chat when you see me in the club."
