🧠 Pop Psychology vs. Actual Psychology

Have you ever seen a post that says:
✨ "Cut out all negative people, and you'll be happy forever."
or
✨ "We only use 10% of our brain?"

That’s pop psychology — quick, catchy, and shareable… but often wrong or oversimplified.

What is psychology?
It’s less about viral quotes and more about science — research, peer review, and context. It digs into why we think, feel, and act the way we do and accept that human behavior is messy and complex.

Believing myths can lead to poor decisions about mental health.

In this information age, always question what you see online. Ask “Where’s the evidence?”

Remember, your mind deserves more than clickbait. 💡

🇯🇲 Happy Independence Day, Jamaica! 🇯🇲

As we raise our flags and celebrate 63 years of rich culture, strength, and resilience, let us also pause to reflect on another kind of freedom, the freedom to care for our minds.

This involves creating a Jamaica where:

We feel safe to speak about our struggles without shame.

We honor healing just as much as hustling.

We recognize that emotional well-being is not a luxury,it is a RIGHT!

We dismantle stigma and make mental health care accessible to all.

This Independence Day, let’s celebrate not just how far we’ve come as a nation but how far we’re willing to go in nurturing a mindful, mentally healthy, and free Jamaica.

🧠💛 Child’s Month 2025
🌟 Theme: Little Minds, Big Feelings 🌟

Children may be small, but their emotions are HUGE, and so very real.

From the giggles that light up a room to the tears that come from a scraped knee or a broken toy, every feeling a child has is valid. And as they grow older, their feelings grow too-more complex, more intense, and sometimes harder to manage.

📚 Imagine this:
A 13-year-old studies hard, does well in class, but gets overlooked for a school award. Everyone says “You’ll get over it,” but inside, they’re feeling invisible, confused, maybe even angry.
That’s a big feeling in a growing mind.
And it matters.

As caregivers, it’s up to us to:
✨ Listen without judgment
✨ Help children and teens name and express their emotions
✨ Create safe spaces where all feelings are welcome

Because emotional intelligence starts early—and when we honor the feelings of children, we help shape compassionate, resilient adults.

Let’s nurture their little minds with big understanding. 💛👧🏽🧒🏿🧑🏻

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we are focusing on "Tending to my Garden, Tending to Myself".

Just like a garden, your mind needs regular care to stay healthy. You can’t expect flowers to bloom in soil that’s never watered, and the same goes for your mental health. 🌿

🪴 We must pull out the weeds—negative thoughts, stress, self-doubt.
🌞 We must welcome the sunlight—joy, rest, laughter, community.
💧 We must water it regularly—through therapy, reflection, boundaries, self-love and other means.

The more we tend to our mental garden, the more we grow.

🌸 What do you do to nurture your mental garden?

Drop a 🌼 flower emoji and share one thing that helps you bloom.

Let’s grow together this Mental Health Awareness Month. 💚
