Colvin George Scott (3 September 1959 – 11 March 2025), better known as Cocoa Tea, was a Jamaican reggae singer and songwriter.
Born in the fishing village of Rocky Point, Clarendon Parish, Jamaica on 3 September 1959, Cocoa Tea was one of the most popular singers in Jamaica from the 1980s onwards, achieving significant worldwide success in the reggae world.
He made his first venture into the music industry at only 14 years of age in 1974, when he released "Searching In The Hills" for Willie Francis' Little Willie label. When the song failed to hit the young Colvin gave up on the music industry for a while, and spent time working as both a jockey and a fisherman over the next few years.Unable to stay away for too long he gained experience singing live on various sound systems before eventually finding his way to Henry "Junjo" Lawes Volcano label in 1984, where he scored big hits with first "Rocking Dolly" and later "I Lost My Sonia", under the name Cocoa Tea.
From there his career continued to progress, leading to overseas tours and working with many other Jamaican producers. Some of his biggest hits of this period include "Young Lover" and "Children of the Ghetto" for the Jammys label, as well as "Holding On" in collaboration with Home T and Shabba Ranks for Gussie Clarke's Music Works. In 1990 he released the hit "Rikers Island" on the Mr Doo imprint, inspired by John Holt's 1977 song "Up Park Camp", with re-worked lyrics referencing the Rikers Island prison in New York City as a warning to young Jamaican immigrants of the time. He also voiced a version in combination with Nardo Ranks titled "Me No Like Rikers Island", which featured on the 1991 Columbia/SME Records compilation album, Dancehall Reggaespañol.
His success continued into the 1990s, with songs such as "Bust Outta Hell" again for Junjo, "Tune In" for Jammys, as well as working with new producers such as Philip "Fatis" Burrell on "Good Life" and "She Loves Me Now", and Bobby 'Digital' Dixon for "Moving On", "Heathen" and "No Threat".Many of these productions found their way onto albums released by international labels such as VP Records, Greensleeves and Ras Records. By this stage he had established h

Happy Heavenly 59th Birthday Donald Willis known has Doniki" 13th August 1966 - 5th June 2016
For years and years, one of Jamaica’s most underrated artists has delivered high quality music without being given proper credits in many cases. If there was an award for Jamaica’s most underrated artist, Doniki would definitely have won it every year. Without any doubt a great loss to the Reggae fraternity. the artist spent his formative years in Trenchtown, Kingston 12. Doniki’s interest in music steadily grew throughout his early schooldays attending St. Albans Primary, but since money was tight, he couldn’t take the music lessons he so wished for. By the time he reached Denham Town High School, he took every opportunity to sing, and as soon as he did, it became obvious that he had a genuine talent. After leaving school at the age of sixteen, it was clear to him that he had to find employment within the music world. Following the invitation of a friend, he cut his teeth on the Romantic Soundsystem, but soon moved on to the legendary Killamanjaro Set, and to this day he is remembered as one of the most exciting Dancehall performers of that period.
In 1982, he recorded his first song “She Give Me Icky” for Mikey Tomlinson (actually, this is where his artist name comes from: Don + Icky = Doniki). Over the next few years, he developed his style mentored by Johnny Osbourne and Bunny Wailer. By then he had been joined by Steady Ranks, and soon the duo built a reputation as one of the most dynamic stage-show acts. They started to write and record for Richard Bell’s Star Trail Productions and had immediate success with songs such as “Trod On” and “Jump Nyahbinghi”.
Doniki & Steady Ranks - Come To Give Praises
Doniki - Radikal Expressions
After a while, they moved on to the Ocho Rios-based label Kariang. It was in fact ex-Star-Trail stable mate Garnett Silk who recommended Doniki to Kariang’s boss Jah Mikes. This association continued for many years with the pair releasing an album called “Come To Give Praises” in 1997. They toured many parts of the world including France, Italy, Israel, Canada and the Ivory Coast, and during these travels, Doniki developed a thirst for authentic Roots that led to collaborations such as the one with Anthony B on “Break Free”. In this time, he was also acting as a songwriter for Platinum-selling French Artist Pier Poljack, which further enhanced his reputation in Europe. 2006 saw Doniki’s long awaited debut album entitled “Radical Expressions”, produced by Kariang and licensed to the French label Makasound/Makafresh. It was very well received and fully showcased the singers’ skills at both vocal delivery and social commentary.
Doniki had by now been a Waterhouse resident for a number of years, and his songs became ever more radical. Along with Trenchtown, this Western Kingston Ghetto area has often been the backdrop to violent political struggle, Gang warfare and poverty. Doniki had witnessed Waterhouse become a no-go-area, and as an attentive observer, this provided the theme for another big tune: “Gully Bank”, which, along with “Life Of The People” and “Kingston” was recorded entirely at Tuff Gong Studio by Chief Engineer Roland McDermott. Doniki then took a perennial break to take care of his two sons.
The quality of his output throughout the years was not only based on his talent to write lyrics of such magnitude that he has provided countless anthems, serving as a blueprint for the next generation of songwriters. What is most striking in his compositions is the harmony that shines through the musical arrangement, the melodies and the way his vivid voice is caressing every note. Indeed, colleagues have claimed more than once that he seemed to be one of those rare cases who possess the “absolute pitch”, and this gift is of course reflected in his music. No wonder he was always asked to tutor other vocalists (or write songs for them), so that we now can look back on collaborations with Everton Blender, Iba Mahr, Max Romeo and many others.
Apart from these talents, Doniki was a one of those artists who practiced what he preached. Very appreciated in his community, he was constantly looking for ways to improve the life of the people around him and let the world hear their stories. High profile artists called out to him “Yes, mi singer!” with a sincerity not always displayed nowadays.

Man from Wareika was the first album recording for Rico Rodriguez led by his own artistic imagination, and his first recording created for album release. It is notable for being the only roots reggae album to be released on Blue Note Records.
After recording one track ("Africa") in London with engineer Dick Cuthell as a kind of a demo for label owner Chris Blackwell - its arrangement is completely different in comparison to the rest of the album and contains flute and chorus - Rodriguez was offered a contract to record this album; and he could arrange to record in Jamaica.
After 15 years Rodriguez returned for the first time to Jamaica. He had left the country in 1961 when he was already heavily involved in creating the then new ska sound. In 1976 he added something new to reggae music. A critic wrote in 1977 that the album "does not just reflect the current popular trends, but ... expresses in a definitive way the Jamaican music tradition."
The nine self-composed tracks on the album offer Jamaican rhythms with horn lines between a melodic use (e.g. on "This Day" and "Lumumba") and jazz; the latter helped to define something like a new genre, Jamaican jazz, transforming the experience from early ska days into 1970s roots reggae. Most of the songs remain in Rodriguez's live repertoire until today. Some have been re-recorded by other artists as well as by himself.

Happy 56th Birthday 27th May 1969 Tanto Metro (born Mark Wolfe in Kingston, Jamaica) acquired his stage name from working on the Metromedia sound system. He moved on to become part of Patrick Roberts' Shocking Vibes organization and released the solo album Ratings in 1995 which featured guest appearances from Beenie Man and Dean Fraser. He subsequently established a working partnership with tenor-voiced singer Devonte (born Wayne Passley), and the duo had a major hit in Jamaica in 1997 with "Everyone Falls in Love", which was followed by an album of the same name produced by Donovan Germain for penthouse Records; The single and album also sold well in the United States and Canada (the album topped the Billboard Top Reggae Albums Chart and the single reached number 6 in the Canadian singles chart), leading to a deal with Epic Records. The duo were compared to the similar duo of Chaka Demus and Pliers.

The duo's second album, The Beat Goes On, was released in 2001 by VP Records in Jamaica and Universal in the US.[2] The album reached number 4 on Billboard's Top Reggae Albums Chart in 2002.[6] A single from the album, "Give It to Her", reached number 85 in the Billboard Hot 100.[6] Beenie Man again guested and the duo repaid the compliment on his 2002 album Tropical Storm.

The duo released Musically Inclined in 2006, with a guest appearances from Courtney Melody and Morgan Heritage.[8] A quiet period for the duo followed, although a compilation in VP/Greensleeves Most Wanted series was released in 2009.[9][10] In 2008, Japanese musician Miliyah Kato released "Kono Mama Zutto Asa Made", a song that sampled "Everyone Falls in Love", which despite being a single B side became a hit in Japan, and was certified gold by the RIAJ.

They returned with the single "Already Know" in 2013, a Sly and Robbie-produced single. The album Request was scheduled to be released later that year but never did.

The album Sly and Robbie Presents Tanto Metro and Devonte followed in June 2015.
