Cervical cancer mainly affects women, but the virus that causes it, called Human Papillomavirus (HPV), can infect anyone, both males and females.
HPV is very common and is linked to several other types of cancer. Because of this, it's recommended that both boys and girls get the HPV vaccine, ideally between the ages of 9 and 14, before they might come into contact with the virus.
Even if someone gets vaccinated, it’s still really important for women to have 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 like 𝗣𝗮𝗽 𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗣𝗩 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. These tests help detect issues early, which can prevent cervical cancer and potentially save lives.
If you have questions about the HPV vaccine or cervical cancer screenings, please talk to your doctor or call the Colposcopy Unit at 876-801-1043 today.
