🫚 Is ginger tea really solving your problem?

We all reach for it, but sometimes that burning pain in your chest or stomach is telling you something ginger tea just can't fix.

What could it be?
🌢️ A burning pain triggered by scotch bonnet pepper, citrus fruits (lemons, limes, grapefruits, oranges), pineapple, or grapes?

πŸ”₯ A pain starting in the middle of your chest, travelling upward, burning in nature, coming with a lot of belching and worse when you lie down flat or on your right side?

These symptoms could be a sign that your body is reacting to certain foods and drinks, or that you're not eating as regularly as your stomach needs.
Either way, it's probably a little more than ginger tea can handle. πŸ˜…

March is Colore**al Cancer Awareness Month, and the Critical Care Comprehensive Centre is shining a light on one of the most preventable and beatable cancers when caught early.

What is colore**al cancer?
Colore**al cancer begins in the colon or re**um and often develops silently from small growths called polyps. Caught early, it is highly treatable. Left unchecked, it can become life-threatening.

🚨 Watch for these signs:
Changes in bowel habits that last more than a few days
Blood in the stool or re**al bleeding
Constant abdominal cramping or discomfort
Unexplained weight loss
A feeling that your bowel never fully empties
How to protect yourself:
See your doctor if you notice any of the above symptoms.
Ask about a colonoscopy, especially if you're 45 or older.
Eat more fibre and less processed meat.
Stay active and maintain a healthy weight.
Know your family history; it matters.

Colore**al cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, but only if you act. Don't ignore the signs. A simple screening today could save your life tomorrow.

What is a Pap smear?
It's a simple screening test that looks for early signs of cervical cancer. Early detection saves lives.

What is a hysterectomy?
This is surgery to remove the womb. Sometimes the cervix is removed along with it, and sometimes it's left in place.

Do you need a pap smear if you had a hysterectomy?
βœ… If your cervix was removed: You cannot get cervical cancer. No more Pap smears needed.
⚠️ If your cervix was NOT removed: You still have a cervix, which means you can still get cervical cancer. You still need regular Pap smears.

πŸ€” Not sure about your situation?
You're not alone. Many women don't know whether their cervix was removed during surgery. The best thing to do? Ask.

A quick visit to your doctor can give you clarity and peace of mind. We're here to help you figure it out.

February is Heart Health Awareness Month, and the Heart Foundation of Jamaica has launched the month under the theme: "Heart Attack! - Could It Be You?"

What is cardiovascular disease?
This is a group of disease which affects your heart’s ability to pump oxygen rich blood to the rest of your body. Over time, this can wear your heart down.

🚨 Watch for these signs:
Shortness of breath doing simple tasks
Swollen legs or feet
Pressing chest pain or tightness
Heart palpitations (that fluttering feeling)
Racing heart that won't settle

How to protect your heart:
See your doctor for a proper check-up.
Ask about an ECG to see how your heart is performing.
Go easy on the salt.
Stay active.
Keep an eye on your blood pressure and cholesterol.

The bottom line: Heart disease is common, but it's not inevitable. Small steps today can keep you here for all the tomorrows that matter.

What is a Febrile Seizure? πŸŒ‘οΈπŸ‘Ά

Seeing your child have a seizure is every parent’s worst nightmare, but understanding what’s happening is the first step to staying calm.

A Febrile Seizure is triggered by a spike in body temperature (fever) in young children. While they are often harmless and children usually grow out of them, you can never be too careful.

🚨 The Golden Rule: If you suspect a seizure, head to the hospital immediately.

Go straight to the ER, especially if: 1️⃣ The seizure lasts more than 5 minutes. 2️⃣ The seizures are recurrent (happening back-to-back).

Even if the seizure stops and your child seems back to normal, a hospital visit is necessary for observation to rule out other causes.

πŸ“Œ Save this post so you remember the signs, and share it with another parent for Seizure Awareness Month.
