Pregnancy can make you more likely to get heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or other heat-related illness sooner than those who are not pregnant. This is because your body must work harder to cool down both you and the developing baby. Pregnancy can also make you more likely to become dehydrated. Extreme heat can actually result in preterm labour. This is why it is essential to keep as cool as possible during the summer. In addition to the tips noted above remember to elevate your feet to reduce swollen angles. The heat and humidity can cause fingers and toes to swell during pregnancy, so it’s best to remove all rings. Do not engage in strenuous activities or overexert yourself.
Seek medical advice if feel ill in the heat, or you are worried you might be dehydrated or have heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
