This Morning, I was on NationWide Radio Station in Jamaica -talking about stroke and stroke prevention, and trying to increase stroke education and increase early recognition for stroke. One of the big risk factors for stroke is hypertension. Hypertension is high blood pressure. There are many causes of high blood pressure. One of the main contributors is too much salt intake in a person’s diet. Today, we want to focus on avoiding salt in the diet; just don’t add salt to your meal. Read food labels and choose low salt low fat and low sodium options. If you want to add flavour use natural seasonings: escallion, garlic, onion ginger etc or use no salt seasonings when preparing meals. When you decide to eat at a restaurant or other places you can ask that no salt be added to your choices. People are often health conscious at many of the restaurants nowadays. The menu may also include “no salt” or “low-fat” icons to indicate varied options for you to choose from. By choosing the right healthy options your small choices add up to create a bigger impact.
