Why might I need fluoroscopy?
Fluoroscopy is used in many types of exams and procedures including:
* Barium X-rays- this allows the healthcare provider to see the movement of the intestines as the barium moves through them.
* Cardiac Catheterization - Fluoroscopy is used to help the healthcare provider see the flow of blood through the coronary arteries to check for arterial blockages.
* Electrophysiologic procedures- During these procedures, fluoroscopy is used to treat people with heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias).
* Arthrography - X-ray to view a joint or joints.
* Placement of IV (intravenous) or arterial catheters. Catheters are thin, hollow tubes. For catheter insertion, fluoroscopy is used to guide the catheter into a specific vessel inside the body.
* Hysterosalpingogram. This is an X-ray of the uterus and fallopian tubes.

How are fractures treated ? Diagnostic testing for fractures may include:
* Xrays
* Computed Tomography Scans (Ct-Scan)
* Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) : Some fractures (such as stress fractures) don't show up on an X-ray until a few weeks after the bone starts hurting. An MRI can pick up smaller fractures before they get worse.
What are the treatments for a fractured bone?
Treatment will be based on the type of fracture, its severity, and age. In most cases, fractures are treated with a sling, splint/brace, cast or walking boot. These immobilize the injured bone while it heals.

Early detection is key in the treatment of breast cancer. There are steps you can take to detect breast cancer early when it is most treatable.
Recommended Screening Guidelines:
Mammography. The most important screening test for breast cancer is the mammogram. A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast. It can detect breast cancer up to two years before the tumor can be felt by you or your doctor.
Women age 40 - 45 or older who are at average risk of breast cancer should have a mammogram once a year.
Women at high risk should have yearly mammograms along with an MRI starting at age 30.

Fluoroscopy is a type of medical imaging that shows a continuous X-ray image on a monitor, much like an X-ray movie. During a fluoroscopy procedure, an X-ray beam is passed through the body. The image is transmitted to a monitor so the movement of a body part or of an instrument or contrast agent (“X-ray dye”) through the body can be seen in detail.
Fluoroscopy is used in a wide variety of examinations and procedures to diagnose or treat patients. Some examples are:
* Barium X-rays and enemas (to view the gastrointestinal tract)
* Catheter insertion and manipulation (to direct the movement of a catheter through blood vessels, bile ducts or the urinary system)
* Placement of devices within the body, such as stents (to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels)
* Angiograms (to visualize blood vessels and organs)
* Orthopedic surgery (to guide joint replacements and treatment of fractures)
If you have been referred to get a fluoroscopy done, ensure that the procedure has been explained to you as well as of there are any concerns that you may have leading up to the procedure feel free to ask your radiology technician or the radiologist.

What is General Ultrasound Imaging?
Ultrasound is safe and painless, and produces pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, involves the use of a small transducer (probe) and ultrasound gel placed directly on the skin. High-frequency sound waves are transmitted from the probe through the gel into the body. The transducer collects the sounds that bounce back and a computer then uses those sound waves to create an image. Ultrasound examinations do not use ionizing radiation (as used in x-rays), thus there is no radiation exposure to the patient. Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.
Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

What does a Chest X-ray reveal?
Chest X-rays are a common type of exam. A chest X-ray is often among the first procedures you'll have if your doctor suspects heart or lung disease
A chest X-ray can reveal many things inside your body, including:
* The condition of your lungs. Chest X-rays can detect cancer, infection or air collecting in the space around a lung, which can cause the lung to collapse.
* Heart-related lung problems. Chest X-rays can show changes or problems in your lungs that stem from heart problems.
* The size and outline of your heart. Changes in the size and shape of your heart may indicate heart failure, fluid around the heart or heart valve problems.
* Blood vessels. The aorta and pulmonary arteries and veins are visible on X-rays, they may reveal aortic aneurysms, other blood vessel problems or congenital defects
* Calcium deposits. Chest X-rays can detect the presence of calcium in your heart or blood vessels.
* Fractures. Rib or spine fractures or other problems with bone may be seen on a chest X-ray.

A coronary angiogram is a procedure that uses X-ray imaging to see your heart's blood vessels. The test is generally done to see if there's a restriction in blood flow going to the heart.
Coronary angiograms are part of a general group of procedures known as heart (cardiac) catheterizations. Cardiac catheterization procedures can both diagnose and treat heart and blood vessel conditions. A coronary angiogram, which can help diagnose heart conditions, is the most common type of cardiac catheterization procedure.
During a coronary angiogram, a type of dye that's visible by an X-ray machine is injected into the blood vessels of your heart. The X-ray machine rapidly takes a series of images (angiograms), offering a look at your blood vessels.
Your doctor may recommend that you have a coronary angiogram if you have:
•Symptoms of coronary artery disease, such as chest pain (angina)
•Pain in your chest, jaw, neck or arm that can't be explained by other tests
•New or increasing chest pain (unstable angina)
•A heart defect you were born with (congenital heart disease)
•Abnormal results on a noninvasive heart stress test
•Other blood vessel problems or a chest injury
•A heart valve problem that requires surgery
Having an angiogram takes about one hour, although it may be longer, especially if combined with other cardiac catheterization procedures. Preparation and post-procedure care can add more time. You may be able to go home the same day, or you may have to remain in the hospital overnight. Drink plenty of fluids to help flush the dye from your body. If you're feeling up to it, have something to eat.

18/04/2021

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that affects the large intestine. Signs and symptoms include cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea or constipation, or both.

Your doctor may recommend several tests, including stool studies to check for infection or problems with your intestine's ability to take in the nutrients from food (malabsorption). You may also have a number of other tests to rule out other causes for your symptoms.
Diagnostic procedures can include:
* Colonoscopy. Your doctor uses a small, flexible tube to examine the entire length of the colon.
* X-ray or CT scan. These tests produce images of your abdomen and pelvis that might allow your doctor to rule out other causes of your symptoms, especially if you have abdominal pain. Your doctor might fill your large intestine with a liquid (barium) to make any problems more visible on X-ray. This barium test is sometimes called a lower GI series.
* Upper endoscopy. A long, flexible tube is inserted down your throat and into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). A camera on the end of the tube allows the doctor to inspect your upper digestive tract and obtain a tissue sample (biopsy) from your small intestine and fluid to look for overgrowth of bacteria. Your doctor might recommend endoscopy if celiac disease is suspected.
