It is important to be present. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this prestigious event. The young ladies of the Miss Universe Jamaica North-West 2023 'Confidently Beautiful' represented well. Invigorating talks were given by well known persons- Monique Gilpin, Dr. Garth Sommerville, Raxann Chin- in the fashion and pageant industry. The young ladies were guided on poise, body angles, finding their light within and during poto shoots.

A few weeks ago, a 'did you know' about herpes zoster otherwise referred to as shingles was posted.

Above are two patients who presented with shingles. In addition to the blisters that are present, dark spots are usually seen after the blisters have healed, however, the prolonged pain associated with this acute illness is the major complaint of clients.

Please see your Dermatologist as soon as possible if you suspect that you may have shingles. Other areas of the body can be severely affected causing very debilitating complications

Please be reminded that vaccines are available to protect you against Herpes zoster

For the past 2 years the Caribbean Dermatology Association (CDA) meetings have been virtual. In 2022 things changed, and during the first week in November 2022, the first in person CDA meeting was hosted in Jamaica and I was truly thankful to have attended in person rather than online.

The days of presentations were interesting and insightful. To be present while information about dermatological conditions were being shared from the UK, via the Dowling club, and from Caribbean colleagues has been invigorating.

Knowledge is power. As physicians, knowledge equates to being better equipped with helping patients.

Even though everyone present went for work, we also played💃..... Afterall it is Jamaica!!!! 🌄

Hair loss, pustules, redness and tenderness of the scalp are a few things experienced by this client. This is an inflammatory condition affecting the scalp that has been treated and with good improvement. Permanently damaged hair follicles occur in this disorder causing hairs not to grow back. Early treatment is important to decrease the amount of permanent damage that may occur.

Patients I have seen, visit with the concern of nail discoloration of the toes. During the examination a number of these clients have an infection that not only affects the toenails but also between the toes.

These infections not only exist between the toes but may also occur between the fingers.
