No view by the pool today, as I’m home sick with a cold. So I’ve decided to start on a ‘Vegan Food’ blog category.
A couple of weeks ago at Nature’s Bliss, Miss Ainn, the lovely owner (you can see the story of how she came to open Nature’s Bliss on the About Us page) was eating some dark brown kind of cereal in the morning. I didn’t know what that could be and so I asked. It was made of ‘Teff’, a small brown grain which the Nature’s Bliss chef, Lorna, had soaked overnight and cooked into a porridge which was then served with some walnuts and h**p seed milk (Yum!).
I thought and said at the time that I had never heard of Teff, but when I ‘googled’ it later on, I found that indeed I had! Not only had I heard of it (although not by that name) but I found that it was the sole ingredient (apart from water) in one of my favorite ‘breads’ – Injera.

Injera is a soft, spongy round kind of flatbread that is traditionally made and eaten in Ethiopia. It is naturally fermented as part of its making (which can take 4-5 days) and has a slightly sour taste. It is usually eaten with any type of curry/stew or fried food, with anything and everything really! I had eaten it both in Australia, where I am from, as well as in Ethiopia itself when I was there in 2013/4.

As I mentioned, Injera is traditionally made using only Teff and water. The grain is ground and mixed with water, then left to naturally ferment for 4-5 days before being mixed into a batter and cooked much like a crepe or pancake. You can find any number of Injera recipes on the internet, from the traditional to those adding yeast and other types of flour. While Ethiopian cuisine does include many meat dishes (it is traditionally a herding culture) it also includes a great variety of vegetable and lentil dishes such as Shiro Wot (a seasoned chick-pea and bean flour dish), Misir Kik Wot (red lentil stew), Kik Alicha Wot (split yellow pea stew), Gomen (collard greens or kale with onion and spices), or Tikil Gomen (with cabbage, potato and carrots).

For recipes for these dishes (and picture source) please see The Ethiopian Food dot com website.

This is the view from my office. What more could one want from a Friday morning?

Sitting at the table under cover of the back verandah overlooking the pool and garden - with a fan! The flowers bloom. The birds and butterflies fly past. Clouds pass overhead and the breeze pushes the upper limbs and leaves of the trees about.

It is truly beautiful. A healing environment if there ever was one. Peace and tranquility in which to rest and rejuvenate from life's stresses and damages. Most people want to indulge in excesses of rich foods, less-than-healthy beverages and the like when on vacation. But here at Nature's Bliss, we offer a wonderful alternative: You can set in place the groundwork on a new you!

Health and Healing in idyllic surrounds; wonderful healthy vegetarian and vegan food, relaxing and restoring treatments, herbal remedies and a plan to set in motion new health habits that will benefit you permanently. Why spend money on making yourself sicker in the name of entertainment when you can invest in and pamper yourself healthily?

It is truly a gift to have this opportunity.

Blessings,

Serah

Welcome to the new Blog for Nature's Bliss Jamaica Lifestyle Center.

My name is Serah Khadijah and I will be sharing my experiences and insights into Nature's Bliss, our news, as well as all manner of other topics, I'm sure, linked to Health, Healing and Happiness.

Nature's Bliss has been open in Ironshore, Montego Bay since 2013 but now with 2.5 years of the Covid19 pandemic behind us, it's a new start! With the extra attention to health and wellness that Covid19 has brought, we are now ready to begin again and welcome you to our gorgeous Lifestyle Center for Health and Healing and all the potential and inspiration that a new start can bring.

I am in the process of updating our website, communicating on our Social Media and have listed Nature's Bliss on Airbnb in order to reach out to as many people as possible with our message and invite you all to experience our gorgeous venue and wonderful hospitality for yourselves.

I will soon be back with an updated list of health treatments that are available and our listings on Airbnb (and potentially other platforms), so please stay tuned and feel free to reach out with any questions or queries that you may have.
