World AIDS Day takes place on the 1st December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day. With advances in drug therapy and care overall care HIV can be more effectively treated. The fight is not over however.
So today Neighbour Care encourages you to:
-Get Tested.
-Always engage in safe s*x practices.
-Stop stigma in the workplace.
-Stop the stigma at health care centres.

HIV cannot be spread by touching, insect bites, sharing food or even kissing.

: A drug ALLERGY is a RARE condition in which the body's immune system responds to a drug and causes adverse health effects. Mild drug allergies cause a rash or cough, while more severe reactions may cause trouble breathing, low blood pressure, or a change in heartbeat. Severe allergic reactions can be life-threatening. Penicillin and sulfa antibiotics cause allergic reactions more often than most other drugs.

A drug intolerance is different from a drug allergy, since it doesn't involve an immune reaction. A drug intolerance is an adverse effect from a drug, such as stomach irritation caused by taking aspirin. Common drug intolerances include drowsiness and stomach upset. If you have a drug intolerance, you may be able to continue with the drug by taking your dose with food or at bedtime, or if your doctor lowers your dose. Sometimes drug intolerances simply disappear as drug therapy continues.

ALLERGY signs and symptoms that should prompt patients to contact their health care provider IMMEDIATELY are:

Hives or red, itchy patches
Swollen, red, itchy rash
Allergy signs and symptoms that should prompt patients to seek emergency care immediately are
Any difficulty breathing
Swelling in the face, tongue, lips, and/or throat, or difficulty swallowing

Breast self-exam (BSE), or regularly examining your breasts on your own, can be an important way to find a breast cancer early, when it's more likely to be treated successfully. Not every cancer can be found this way, but it is a critical step you can and should take for yourself.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October, helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease.

There are about 1.38 million new cases and 458 000 deaths from breast cancer each year (IARC Globocan, 2008). Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide, both in the developed and developing countries. In low- and middle-income countries the incidence has been rising up steadily in the last years due to increase in life expectancy, increase urbanization and adoption of western lifestyles.

Currently there is not sufficient knowledge on the causes of breast cancer, therefore, early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control.

Thing to know about Antibiotics
-Antibiotics don't work for everything; Antibiotics fight bacterial infections but they will now work for viral or fungal infections. This means they are not effective for treatment of the flu or common cold(viral). Therefore treating the cold or flu may not require antibiotics but involves relieving your symptoms and allowing the body to fight off a virus.

-Taking antibiotics unnecessarily may allow bacteria to adapt and become resistant to the drug thus making treatment of an infection more difficult. This allows increases the possibility of spreading the infection.

-"I had some antibiotics left from the last time I was sick so I started taking them"
This is a BAD idea. Antibiotics used for a urinary tract infection may be different from those used to treat you strep throat or your bacterial ear infection. If you take the wrong medication it will not be effective and may also lead to resistance. It may also cause unpleasant side effects.

None of this should scare you away from antibiotics, it should however encourage you to take antibiotics as prescribed.
