Who fixes the salt when the salt spoils?"
من يصلح الملح إذا الملح فَسَدْ
I would like to share this beautiful story with you, my friends:
There was once a Bedouin in a nomadic tribe who married a woman of exceptional beauty, grace and religious conviction from his own community. They lived harmoniously in their tribe until a conflict arose between his family and another, resulting in the tragic death of a man from the opposing family. As a result, the man was asked to leave the tribe.
He took his wife with him and settled in another tribe, where he often argued with the tribe leader and his fellow tribesmen and asked the council for advice.
On one fateful visit, the tribal leader was struck by the enchanting beauty of the man's wife. The tribal leader harbored the insidious idea of being alone with her. He devised a plan and sent the man, accompanied by some of the tribe's men, on a three-day journey to inspect a distant estate.
When the husband left, the tribal leader waited for nightfall and sneaked into the man's house to be alone with his wife. The woman sensed a presence and asked, "Who is in the house?"
The leader replied: "I am the chief. Your beauty has enchanted me and I have come to seek solace for the turmoil in my heart."
The woman refused to give in so easily and replied: "I will not oppose you if you solve this riddle: To prevent the meat from spoiling, we sprinkle salt on it... but what do we do when the salt itself spoils?
The leader thought about the question and asked for time to present the solution by the next day, to which the woman agreed.
The next morning, the tribal leader called the men and elders of the tribe together and presented them with the riddle. Despite their wisdom, none of them could give a satisfactory answer. Among them, however, was a wise man who was known for his quiet thoughtfulness.
After the gathering had dispersed, the wise man turned to the tribal leader because he wanted to know who had posed the riddle.
Perturbed, the leader replied: "Do you have the answer?"
The wise man smiled knowingly and replied: "The person who posed the riddle is looking for protection, but you have not given it to him. He embodies knowledge, piety, ethics and wisdom and has chosen not to respond harshly to your request because he fears your abuse of power. He is not seeking enmity but wants to appeal to your conscience and position. I believe it is a woman you have tempted, but she is anxious to protect her honor and that of her husband because she fears your possible oppression.
Your metaphor implies that the tribal leader corrects a mistake when a man of the tribe goes astray. But who corrects the tribal leader when he stumbles? The essence of the riddle is similar to a verse by Abu Sufyan al-Thawri:
"O men of knowledge, O salt of the land,
Who fixes the salt when the salt spoils?"

يروى أن بدوياً تزوج إمرأة من قبيلته ذات حُسْنٍ وأدب ودين وعاش معها في قريته إلى أن نشب خلاف بين عائلته وعائلة أخرى توفي علي إثْرها رجلٌ من العائلة الأخْري فَحُكِمَ عليه بترك القرية فذهب الرجل بزوجته ليعيش في قرية أخرى وكان دائم الجلوس في مجلس شيخ القرية مع الرجال يتسامرون ويتشاورون.
حتى مر شيخ القرية يوماً بمنزله ورأى زوجته فسحره جمالها وفُتِنَ بها
لمعت في عقل شيخ القرية فكرة شيطانية لينفرد بزوجة الرجل فأرسله مع بعض رجال القرية ليتفقدوا ضيعة بينهم وبينها مسيرة ثلاثة أيام في الذهاب ومثلهم للعودة وبعد أن سافر الزوج مع الرجال أنتظر شيخ القرية ليأتي الليل وتسلل
بيت الرجل لينفرد بزوجته ودخل البيت ولكن الزوجة شعرت به فقالت:- من بالمنزل
قال الشيخ:-أنا شيخ القرية سَحَرَنِي جمالك فجئت إليك لأُطْفئ لهيب قلبي
قالت الزوجة:- وأنا لن أمانع بشرط أن تحل هذا اللغز حتي لايفسد اللحم نضع الملح عليه فماذا نفعل إذا فسد الملح
فكر الشيخ قليلاً ثم قال لها
أمهليني حتى الغد لآتيكِ بحل اللغز
فقالت الزوجة :-وأنا سأنتظرك وفي الصباح جمع شيخ القبيلة الرجال وحكماء القرية وعرض عليهم اللغز فلم يتلق إجابة واحدة مقنعة.
ولكن كان أحدهم والمعروف عنه الحكمة صامتاً وما إن إنفض المجلس ورحل الرجال حتى قال للشيخ
من قال لك هذا اللغز ؟
إرتبك الشيخ قليلاً ثم قال له:-هل تعرف الإجابة :
إبتسم الرجل الحكيم وقال:-قائل هذا اللغز شخص إحتمى بك ولكنك خذلته وهو ذو علم ودين وأخلاق وحكمة فهو لا يريد أن يرد طلبك بغلظة فتنقلب عليه وتسئ معاملته بما لك من سطوة وقوة ولن يستطيع أن يجيب طلبك لأن أخلاقه تمنعه من ذلك
فهو لا يريدك أن تكون عدوه ولكنه يريد مخاطبة ضميرك ومكانتك أظنها إمرأة راودتها أنت عن نفسها وهي تريد أن تصون عرضها وعرض زوجها ولكنها تخشي من بطْشك
فهي تقصد أن الرجل من القبيلة إذا فسد أصلحه شيخ القبيلة ولكن من يُصلح شيخ القبيلة إذا فسد فأصل اللغز بيت من الشعر قاله أبو سفيان الثوري
يارجال العلم يا ملح البلد
